View Full Version : Can Sega Genesis carts be recycled and reprogrammed?

In other words, like the NES 8 bit carts, can the rom be desoldiered from the board, cleaned up and have a new rom chip (same size of course) programmed with an eprom burner and resoldiered to the board and become the new game without anything special done to the board or chip? Any help would be appreciated before I buy a bunch of doner carts... I want to put some of my own roms onto the real boards without having to create new boards or buy expensive multicarts... Thanks! - Daryl

I don't see why not. As long as you're using the proper boards for each game and the programming doesn't have some sort of weird protection or something. People have done it for SNES games, at least. I've actually considered getting myself the equiment to make my own Starfox 2 English translated cart.
