had that happen to me at a local pawn shop a friend and I have been buying $1 games at for years now.
What is with so many thrifts and some pawns selling things like records and games for $1 each? Over those years I've been digging minimum wage has increased, some inflation and higher costs to living but these items stay $1, not more and no less. Don't know why but this has been bothering me today, is it the simple aspect of "it's a buck?"

is it the simple aspect of "it's a buck?"

Yup, was the way I got through low value duplicate stuff when I would sell at the flea market. Back when my sisters were younger and there were a zillion little toys they no longer wanted I'd sell them either as a big bag for $10.00 or 25 cents each. All the money from that stuff would get chipped into a can that my uncle and myself (since we were the two that would go to the flea market) would split. After the end of the day there'd usually be about $60.00 in there on average.

"Oh, it's just a quarter! Go ahead and buy a dozen of these toys." :)

Of course anything under $1, if it's attractive then buy it unless it's a pile of dung. If you're attracted to that then you're either a gardener or very strange. Just about the only item I can find around here for $0.45 are 45's. How ironic?

I did a trade today from a kid at my school:

I traded him my loose copy of Road Rash 3D (PSOne) for his loose copy of Game Watch Gallery 2. I don't keep loose PSOne games, and I got a good GB game out of it. :)

Been a fun day today

Goodwill:

Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock (Wii) $29.99

A Few rarities from St. Vincent's for $3.99ea kind of high, but when do you get to find these in the wild?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/vintagegamecrazy/DSCF1196.jpg
I also found a Contra.

The local St. Vinnies has proven to have plenty of games quite often.

From Value Village for $1 each, they had a whole box of them but I couldn't afford them all.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/vintagegamecrazy/DSCF1197.jpg

The Guitar Hero III and Contra are already on Ebay.

While not console related, today I picked up a complete copy of Ultima IX: Ascension, the Dragon Edition. The best part about the set is that it has all 9 Ultima games in it. As for what I paid, I am not sure, but it wasn't much. The game, 6 books and 6 video tapes were a grand total of $2 at a church sale.

My finds for the past week:

http://home.comcast.net/~evanwink/images/games/Finds/finds67a.jpg
I splurged on the Challenge Set at 65, but it is in good shape. I have the version with SMB already, so I'll have to decide which to keep. The Wing Commander games have been sitting at SA forever, and I've almost bought them on any number of half-off occasions simply because they are in very good condition and complete. It was half off blue tags again this week, so I picked em up. C&C Renegade was 80 cents.

I'm pretty pleased with this since I've never seen one before, not that they are necessarily all that rare. Works great!

Oh, list price is $69.99. Let the hunt begin, hmm?
Well IsaneDavid after your post in October I did just that.
I found a pair of the Pro-Keds Alien Arcade II a day or so after reading your post. Now just last Friday I bought a pair for $29.99. Now I know how girls feel when they buy shoes.

Sorry guys I'm to lazy for a pic but if you google keds alien you can find them. They are also $34.99 now for some reason.

Now all I need is some game related socks and underoos and I am good to go.

A damn good game day, if I do say so myself. First, I stopped at the local Walmart and picked up their clearance HyperScan stuff (the games/controller were $5/ea and the booster packs were $2/ea). Then, I found Dual Hearts at the local Hastings used (but in minty condition) for $9.99. Finally, my 80GB PS3 and Blu-ray remote came in:

After my first run it started to rain and the vendors started to pack up..

Grabbed this NES deck for $10.00..It has been on the guys table week after week for $20.00..
When I inquired about it a girl had her hand inside the drawer pressing it up and down..

N64 & NES game 2 for $5.00

Oh God, that cherry wheat is some of the most vile stuff ever. I've had contaminated beer that tastes better. I think that may be my least favorite beer that I've ever had.

Mad props to fellow DP'er and Metroplexer jeffg for helping me out today.

I've been wanting to start a complete NES games collection lately and he helped me get started. After a trade of some Saturn stuff for SMB and a few other games, he pointed me to a mom and pop video rental place where he had bagged a bunch of NES titles. I went there and got a bunch of complete NES games for $2 each. I feel like I've gotten a great start to my collection. Also got a few N64 games that are up for sale if anyone wants them:

All I bought at the flea market today was an electronic board game, Mattel Electronics Dungeons and Dragons. I think all the pieces are there, the box is in good shape, and the battery door's missing (naturally). But hey, it only cost me a dollar.

Man, it seems that bootleg pirate iPods are getting popular at stalls out at my local flea market. They're almost as bad as Super Joy Famicom clones out there. Still, I'm kind of curious as to how good they are, and if the one that looks like it can also play games is in fact a Famiclone/MP3 player. That would be seriously cool.

No, haven't had the Red Beach. Fruit has no place in beer, at least in my experience. Now, a Lambic is an entirely different beast, and really hits the spot if you want something fruity. Kreik is the cherry lambic.

Picked up a big GC lot off Craigslist. 200 was a lot just for Super Mario Strikers, but I'll come out pretty well in the end.

http://home.comcast.net/~evanwink/images/games/Finds/finds68.jpg

And this isn't really a find since I got it on eBay, but what was great about it was that the guy is in Minneapolis, so I was able to pick it up. I expected to have to pay at least some of the shipping charge, but nope, got it for 76.12 plus a 88 cent tip. Works great. I've only played Minestorm so far, but it is incredibly addictive (and infuriating). My only beef so far is that the button layout kind of sucks to get to that 'warp' button when you are in a hurry (which is the only time you need it.

How can I go over a year without finding any boxed NES games, and then find five within the same two week span from three different thrifts/bookstores?? These are two latest NES games I found. Nicklaus Golf is missing its instruction book. AD&D Pool of Radiance is complete, though.

And the best of all.......

i must say, i find a thing or two on the ground just by looking in certain spots. this particular cart was in an area for trash pickup.....maybe just came out of bag or something. you'd be surprised what you could find. i can remember thinkin to myself in my young days that as many people get in and out of cars at certain spots what they might have fall off. by the pool i used to frequent i put that theory to the test and behold i found a huge amethyst ring one day. (didn't get to enjoy it that long b/c i lost it the same day...weird huh) just gotta look..........that's all

Alright, so today I went to a small "cash only" pawn shop and found something a little strange... A Nintendo PC joystick (for flight simulators). I found out from some online searching (but never finding an actual picture) that it is made by Laral Group and called the 3D1. I paid only $5 for it, and it's in Like New shape. I also found Fatal Frame and Black on the XBOX for $8 each. Then I picked up another copy of Resdent Evil on the GC for $8 as well.

Bright sunny day at the flea market and sme really nice pickups.

From Cy the miscellaneous junk dealer I found a V.Smile console and joystick. Along with the knotted cables there was a GameCube microphone so I grabbed that too, damage was $10.00. As I stepped aside after paying and was putting the system in my backpack my uncle handed me a cartridge for the V.Smile that he found there as well. The system works perfectly although it's missing the battery door and has no power adapter. I used one of my universal boxes to test it out. Also I was able to test out the V.Smile Pocket I got for $1.00 last week since both systems run the exact same games - it works perfectly as well. I plan on selling everything as a bundle on eBay as the market for these systems is pretty good right now, just need to dig up a power adapter to include with it (standard jack, 9V @ 300mA - very common standard stuff).

V.Smile console
V.Smile joystick (the stick can be rotated around the buttons to the left or right, very slick)
V.Smile cartridge - Spider-Man & Friends: Secret Missions
GameCube microphone

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2008-02-12(01).jpg

Aside from that I picked up a set of high quality GE AV cables (Ye/Wh/Re) open but in the blister package for $1.00. I think the guy selling them meant for them to be in a different box than his miscellaneous dollar store type stuff boxes but was cool and sold them to me without issue. I needed a new set of cables for between my switchbox and surround receiver.

Final stop was with my used game friends. He had a lot more NES this week and I was ready to buy (something I wasn't prepared for last time). We also spent some time talking about the NES market and how it has been picking up lately. He said a couple years ago he was selling NES at $1.00 a game, at the very bottom, but now the price is starting to climb again and people are always asking him for NES. In other words he's been slowly increasing the price (but always a great deal, they're both upstanding guys) but for me it remains at $2.00 a cartridge since I do good business with them and have been buying for years. They've been selling games (him and his brother) for ten years now and once had a shop but now days they go to all the flea markets. He told me he has about 2000 pieces NES games in storage, which is why his inventory rotates around. He also happened to ask me if I wanted any 3DO games, to of which I said of course. He said he'd bring them out next week for me (which means they'll remain in the back of his car until I arrive) and will sell them at $2.00 a piece. Any titles I should be on the lookout for?

Anyway, I bought 10 games @ $2.00 = $20.00. Some nice uncommons...

NES - Alien Syndrome
NES - Bee 52
NES - Gyromite (has a 60 to 72 pin conveter inside)
NES - Home Alone (R4)
NES - Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (R4)
NES - Magic Darts (R4)
NES - RoboCop
NES - RoboCop 2
NES - RoboCop 3 (R4)
NES - StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge

My brother had been looking for Zoda's Revenge for months, ever since he completed the original StarTropics after buying an NES bundle from me at the end of last summer. Gyromite has the Famicom to NES converter hardware inside - I have two custom converters I built out of these cartridges on hand right now but I never pass up the carts with the hardware when I see them. I can now find these cartridges with 100% accuracy. I don't care for any of the RoboCop games but I still needed them and all three were together so why not (same reason I bought the Home Alone games). Without a doubt my favorite pickup in this group is Magic Darts - a great little dart game.

Maybe I should begin digging in my neighbors trash.

LOL

No thanks, find them every once in awhile and quite a bit more than that too. Let us know about those 3DO games.

Might as well add what came in the mail:

Saturn:
2DO Arukotowa Sandoahru
Culdcept
Vampire Hunter
King the Spirits
Shanghai: The Great Wall
Puzzle Bobble 2X
Puyo Puyo Sun

Total damage: $33
They charged me $32 shipping + handling, converted the shipping rate to $22 USD but considering how it took 3 business days from Japan, intact and perfect I'm super happy.

Hey David, any store has an AC Adapter for those VSmile things. I remember my local TRU had several in stock. They never sold out.

Thought I saw a bunch of them last time I was in a TRU. I'm sure I have a 9V @ at least 300mA adapter around here somewhere I can toss in though. I need to go through my inventory. It'd be nice to bundle an official one but I just want to sell this stuff off without buying anything else - sure I'll do much better than $11.00 looking at completed auctions.

I know this is off topic from a video game find but if anyone collects records this is a huge find. 700 records for $65. less then .10 a record. Though does it count that I found while cleaning my room, zombies ate my neighbors for sega?

Master System? Dreamcast? Saturn? Game Gear? I didn't think they made the game for all those systems!

Found a deal on craigslist for a Gamecube lot.

Included:

Gamecube (black)
2 official black Nintendo controllers
1 platinum wavebird w/ receiver
1 madcatz memory card
Mario Party 5
Mario Kart Double Dash
Soul Calibur II
Spyro: Enter the Dragon
Sonic Mega Collections

All for $60. I'd say Mario Kart, Mario Party 5 and the wavebird are well worth that alone. I wish he would've had something like Mario DDR that would've made it even sweeter.

Also picked up a Intec 5" monitor for $5. The screen had some scratches and the wires were messed up but I think it's repairable. It powered on so it works but I may just redo the wiring on it.

I paid $6 total for all of this!

This cost me $1. It's a mystery Famiclone! I've already got two others, and this one says "Dance Factory" on the bottom. I wonder if it's got a DDR clone built in.

THREE BUCKS! I was thinking of looking for a Gyromite cart to gut, but now I guess I don't need one. :D I have no idea what the cart has, I haven't tested this thing yet (my NES is not hooked up.)

I saw this and thought the seller would want ten bucks or so. He said $2, so I pounced on it. I usually find loose copies of these for a buck a pop, but $2 for all that? How could I pass on that? I'm keeping this one, not selling it. :)

At Goodwill:

I got a copy of NES Championship Bowling (R4) for $3.99. I also got a brand-new, sealed copy of King's Quest VI, my favorite King's Quest game, for $2.99. Also, my Goodwill raised the prices on older video games from $2.99 to $3.99 :(
