View Full Version : Some Guncon questions

I'm looking into getting a couple Guncon games (specifically, ATM, Elemental Gearbolt, but eventually I'll want the Time Crises). But first, I have a couple questions about the Guncon and compatibility.

First off, does the original Guncon work with a modern-day (that is, plasma HD) TV?

Second, do newer versions of the Guncon work with games designed around the older ones? That is, can I use a Guncon 2 or 3 with games that were made for the Guncon 1?

Does the PS3 support either the Guncon 1 or 2 (using an adaptor, obviously)?

I'm hoping that all the answers to my questions are "yes" (particularly the 2nd), as this makes light-gun games a lot more viable for me in the near future.

Thanks in advance.

No, no, and I don't believe so but it seems possible as long as you are using a composite output to your tv. .

You can't use them on a new tv, but you can use a 2 on games meant for 1. Thats how I play Time Crisis. And I don't think you can hook them up to a PS3 but not completely positive on that one.

Complete Edit:

Thanks for the replies. I did some more research about Guncon 3 compatibility, and found an interview with one of the developers. It seems it's not at all compatible with the old games, due to its use of LEDs and a different detection system (though it seems like they could have solved this with a standardized API and interpreted values, but I digress).

It looks like my only recourse is to set up another SD TV, and play on it. Oh well, at least I already have a gun...

I have seen light guns that will work with the PS2 and an HDTV (LCD, Plasma, DLP, Projectors even), but they are impossible to find...no longer in production...

LCD Top Gun (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-1i-49-en-70-16s7.html) is in stock on Play Asia. It's not perfect, but its quirks are pretty well documented so you can dive in knowing full well what to expect. Lots of people love 'em.

Well, looks like I'm going to get that, as it's compatible with the PS3 and my TV. Is there a list out there of what games it does and does not work with? Basically, if it can't play Elemental Gearbolt, it's useless :)
