Last month at NAVA...
- A Brawl of epic proportions broke out. Many gamers entered. One gamer left.
- Atari 2600 joysticks made mostly out of chocolate were consumed.
- Over 5000 zombies were killed. Nearly 1000 of them were head shots.
- Mario and Luigi visited the store.
- Many games, systems, and accessories were traded or sold by attendees.
- A salad was eaten.

If you don't believe me, just check the pictures yourself:
http://www.digitpress.com/images/store

We didn't get to the very special Atari 2600 tournament because I didn't have the heart to pull the plug on the two Wii's that ran Super Smash Bros Brawl for most of the night. Expect a slightly more "retro" setup for April.

Digital Press, Screwattack and PBC Productions continue to bond, which is bringing more new faces into the mix. More new faces means more goodies to trade, more gamers to mingle with, more competition on hand. It's all good.

So here we go again, let's see how big this snowball gets. Be a part of it!

When: Saturday, April 26th, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes!

Okay, since I really want to go to these and have no mode of transportation I am again putting my name into the ring.

If someone will be passing through the Northern Virginia area and would like some company and/or a guy to help pay for gas then let me know and I can help you out.

Look though! New offer!

If someone from far away wants a stopping point and doesn't want to pay for a hotel, then let me know and you can stay the night in the guest bedroom in exchange for a ride to and from NAVA. However I will need a heads up as I sort of have to clear it with my parents...

But hey this just shows how much I want to attend one of these shindigs.

Just got back from the silkscreener, Press Start shirts WILL be at NAVA. We're still going over the prices. We got mostly XL shirts but for Dill and Coldguy we got the sizes you asked for.

Once we figure out a price, I'll let you know. Gerard is also working out on doing a DVD that we're going to sell as well so I'll let you know about that too.

The DVD is going to have the full video of the Brawl for Devon tournament as well as some of our arcade videos, past and present.

Be sure to introduce yourself. I say this because there is a hazing process for new NAVA members. It is extremely painful and utterly embarrassing but it's better than not being allowed to use the bathrooms or eat or drink anything in the store, or accidentally being punched in the throat. This is how "regular customers" are treated during NAVA events.

If you happen to be carrying $1.00 worth of coins ... they get an extra life.

They jump on your head till your skull literally pops out of your skin ... then they kick it across the floor with such velocity that it knocks other NAVA members over.

Shit, I don't even remember the first and only time I went to a NAVA meeting. It was awesome, I brought back more Bomberman games, and all was well. I know I met a lot of IRC people I had been chatting with since '96, accidentally spit on SlyDC in my fury of Bomberman tongue-speaking, and had a hilarious conversation about peppers being a form of drugs/intoxication from some guy from Nutley, NJ during a visit to some restaurant or whatever. If anyone who knows the guy I speak of, does he still attend these? I was the "weird Bomberman dude" to anyone who remembers better this from years ago. Good times... :guitar:

If Mario and Luigi come again, bring and extra mustash so I can do an "Awesome Video Games" Lee Travino's Fighting Golf Picture, for our friends in Canada.

We are thinking of going to http://www.richieknucklez.com/ Richie Knucks on Friday Night. He's over in Flemginton New Jersey. We're planning on getting a hotel room close to NAVA so that way we can crash there and drive right up to NAVA.

If any of you other guys in the Jersey area are game, let us know. 10 bucks for all you can play arcade games sounds like a damn good deal in my book.

Good news everyone! I managed to get my hands on a very nifty composite/s-video video capture device that I can use to get my Game Boy Camera pictures directly onto my computer [again via my Super Game Boy and Super NES] at a nice high quality so all of my pictures from here on in should look much better. Once I get a new battery and MiniDV tape for my 9 year old Sony Camcorder I will try to bring it to future NAVA meetings and further contribute in recording all of our lovely little memories. Myself and my friend Johnny will be attending NAVA this Saturday. Cannot wait to see you all there ^_~.

I've known Frank for almost a decade. He was a guest on my podcast a few months ago. We talked about the Fun N Games arcade shutting down in Wayne, NJ, MAME, Red Earth (known as Warzard in Japan), and many other things. Check it out: The Paunch Stevenson Show episode 90 (http://paunchstevenson.com/2007/11/12/episode-90/)

I went with him several years ago to a video game meeting at the store Video Game Connections in Howell, NJ. I played in a couple of bands with his sister-in-law, too.

Hey ya'll.

My name is Dan. This coming meeting will be my first chance to come and see what NAVA is all about. I'm a bit nervous to be in attendance with the greatest and most famous in the retro game community, so I'm hoping to not make a fool of myself while I'm there.

So, I guess what this post really is about is... what can I do to prepare for the event? I'm excited to be meeting people, but am I really good enough to make company with these legends?

Well, your Mii's beard is cropped pretty close to the face. The fat face just screams me since I am one obese f'er and I probably went in wanting someone's Mii to look like me, though I'd need to keep my beard trimmed (http://a971.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/82/l_cd74403f661de73833b154c18a1a8c22.jpg) for it to be a closer resemblance. Which I somehow never do. Plus my hair is in my eyes and over/behind my glasses most of the time. If I had a Mii that would mean I had a Wii. :( You found me out. *sob*

It's nothing to be nervous about. A lot of people sort of blend into the background and take it all in the first time but I wouldn't suggest doing that either. Please find me and introduce yourself (mention your handle) and I'll be sure to help get you acquainted with other DP NAVA folks. It really is a pretty friendly group and if you like to talk and play games, you'll feel right at home.

No "legends" here, just gamers. No need to prepare, either. Though if you really want to make an impression bring some things to trade or sell and bring snacks or beverages.

See ya in a few days!

Well, we most likely won't be going to the event this month. Sorry. I completly forgot that Too Many Games was in another week and with gas prices the way they are, we're not going to have enough to do both.

Then in May, the FunSpot tournament is the weekend after Memorial Day, which means it falls right on the last Saturday in May. So us and the guys from Retroware won't be there because I'm pretty sure their going up as well.

Not depressing at all... because a lot of the old-school NAVA guys will be there, including TV's Hasselhoff and John "CX2K" Hardie and old-timer who's way out-of-state'er Adam "Buyatari" will all be in attendance. Fits the day's theme perfectly actually, I can set up some of the older systems and we can rock out on Intellivision and 2600 games this month :)

It's every month, so no worries even for the new crew. We've got some of the PBC folks coming out this month and expecting Angry Video Game Nerd in the summer. And trust me when we get all of these schools together at one NAVA in the near future we're gonna have one crazy competition amongst them! Who wants to see a Jeopardy game with AVGN vs PBC vs DP? C'mon.

1 used Sixaxis controller, pristine condition

1 brand new un-opened Cannon Pixma color inkjet printer (with ink and brand new un-opened USB cable)

1 "PSOne shaped" AV Famicom clone (60 pin Famicom slot) with 2 controllers, light gun, av cables, AC, and 72 pin NES adapter (raw circuit board, no plastic shell)

2 N64/SNES/CD "drawer" game holders

1 Nyko Intercooler for XBOX 360

...and some other random stuff.

I'm usually there no later than 1PM, so if you want any of this stuff PM me or be there early!!

And I haven't had any serious contenders in my Rock Band vocals contest ... so it doesn't look like there will be any delicious Companion Cube Cake this NAVA!

From the blog of Little Miss Gamer aka "Z"
http://www.pbc-productions.com/littlemissgamer/blog/?p=11

Digital Press - A Mecca for all Gamers

So tonight I finally made it out to a NAVA meeting at Digital Press. The other guys in PBC had been telling me about it, and finally the opportunity came up that I was free and able to go. If you haven’t ever heard of the store you can check it out here: http://www.digitpress.com/

Let me just say - it’s amazing. The selection is just awesome, the attention to detail is great, they have everything a gamer could want. It’s what I always hope for in an independently owned video game store, and Digital Press had it. We’re talking not just the standard new games and retro games that any cool store would have… but also just weird rare stuff that you might have heard of but have never really seen in person. They have a whole section dedicated to retro games in their boxes!!! Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Intellivision, Coleco, Commodore 64, other consoles I can’t even remember right now, and of course all the new stuff too. The place is just amazing, and if you’re ever on a road trip and passing anywhere near Clifton, NJ you are MORALLY OBLIGATED as someone who loves, appreciates and respects video games, to go there and support this store. It is a rare gem in a sea of Industrial ick.

The event I attended today was NAVA - the North Atlantic Videogame Aficianodos: http://www.digitpress.com/nava.htm they have a gathering the last Saturday of every month complete with in store video game tournaments, pizza, and awesome conversations about games. What more could you ask for?

In other news - I know I haven’t posted much lately, but what can I say… we’ve been rather busy over here. Check out this weeks VLog on our main site to read about all the exciting projects that are coming up. I do have a few Little Miss Gamer episodes in the works, and there should be one released relatively soon. Stay tuned…

What a fantastic NAVA meeting! I had my most fun yet. Before I gush like a raging geeky geyser let me post the link to the latest Game Boy Camera pictures I took at the meeting with some details and explanations…

http://www.flickr.com/photos/12733406@N02/sets/72157604759385146/

A majority of the pictures were taken during the uber-awesome tournament! I took the most pictures ever at this NAVA meeting [I was only one picture short from filling the camera’s 30 picture limit].

I just recently bought a Pinnacle Video Transfer [http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PVT/ ] a unique video capture device where you can rip video directly ‘most’ devices that output via composite or S-video cables directly to a USB thumb drive or external hard drive without the need of a computer. I got the thing mainly so that I can make a sort of mixed tatsujin video showing off my decent skills in Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania IIDX, and Pop’n Music to enter in a talent show competition the company I work for is throwing. I was hoping that I could use the thing to take the video directly off my Super Nintendo with my Super Game Boy and Game Boy Camera attached so I could get the pictures I taken posted at a higher quality. Sadly, that failed miserably, since the Super NES outputs a modulated RF signal while the PVT can only read baseband signals. I tried everything I could think of to try to get the PVT to read the signal the Super NES was spitting out but nothing worked so now I have to stick with the ghetto tried and true method until I can get some sort of convertor or I may be able to use a Gamecube instead once I get the Game Boy Player [why do I not have one yet?!].

I came to the NAVA meeting early like I usually do and I immediately bought some games that I have been wanting for awhile to support the store. The three games I got were…

Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box – The games in this compilation supposedly should be in every gamer’s collection. Now I shall know why :-P.

Kingpin: Life of Crime : I played the demo of this game 9 years ago and meant to buy the full game but I ended up getting distracted by Dungeon Keeper 2 instead. Ah, memories.

Spikeout: Battle Street: Yaaaay! Now my Sega Xbox 1 collection is nearing completion!

I also bought the printer Frankie was selling which I may need for work in the future. Thanks a bunch for selling it to me, Frank ;). After I got those quickie purchases out of the way I ran to the internet cafe computers right away and began playing Stepmania for the first time after being left by a good impression of it watching Matt play it at February’s NAVA meeting. After playing it, I have to say I was left with a great impression. Playing and half singing to older DDR songs like Dub-i-Dub and the heavenly Petit Love filled me with sense of nostalgia. Playing insane fan made charts to such songs like the Fire Emblem theme [Super Smash Brothers Melee remix] and Aphex Twin’s Girl/Boy Song [first time I ever heard the song and I cannot believe how great it is >_<] made me shrill like a little school girl.

After I stopped playing Stepmania I ran out to my house to drop off the stuff I bought and to wait for my friend Johnny from Avenel, NJ to arrive so I could walk to back to the meeting. Once we both made it back to the store we played obscene amounts of Dawn of War: Winter Assault which has to be one of my favorite real time strategy games at the moment. I love how offensive based the games is due to the unique way you get resources [you get them by capturing and fortifying strategic points in oppose to having peon units break their back dragging resources to your HQ]. Johnny was, at first, kicking my brown butt to oblivion but after we both ate some White Castles I destroyed him wholeheartedly. Inbetween fights in Dawn of War and some more Stepmania play I ran over to check out the awesome Space Fury Bros tournament. I got quite a few hearty laughs out of watching people getting smacked by pink saucers, kicking sad smiley faces, and frantically grabbing giant grapes in the bonus rounds. It was like Mario….in space….with lots of unmentionable drugs involved. After watching the tournament I ran back to the computers to play more Dawn of War and super amazing Pac-Man Arrangement through MAME. Then Johnny and I walked around a little until I showed him Magical Drop 3 on the Neo Geo cabinet before we left for the night.

Thanks again Joe and to everyone else who makes these NAVA meetings so great and be assured that in future meetings I am going to find ways to contribute more to it ! Till next time ;).

It was fun meeting some of the people from here and to visit the DP store once again. I picked up a PS3 for $250 and I was able to sell my gold nwc which Joe informed me was a record sale on DP grounds so I'll mark this trip down as a victory.

I was there on business and the 7 hour trip with a baby was a bit stressful. I was thinking there would be more trading but it was more of a gamers night.

Next time I come I'll come solo and just try to relax and play some games.

Where was the big man? John Hardie was a no show.

Booo!!

A few comments before the store photos go up tomorrow.

- supergoldzero: awesome GameBoy camera photos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12733406@N02/sets/72157604759385146). I love them all, we need to get you to the next level where the photos can be captures on your PC instead of photographed from the PC monitor! I might steal a few of these for the official store page anyway :)

- YES, a Nintendo World Championship cartridge was sold at the store for well over $10,000... by far the largest single transaction in our brief history but I'm guessing will remain the largest in our entire history. Photo proof to follow tomorrow.

- One of the best tournaments ever, no? The "Space Fury Bros" game was an awesome variation of Mario Bros, with the store mascot and some rather extreme rules that weeded out the casual gamers pretty quickly. I loved the strategy used by the crusty old-timers, who still rule these free-for-all tournament events.

- As bad as most of us sing on Rock Band, it's still awesome background "music" to me. I guess that says a lot for how much I look forward to these once a month affairs. Side note to this: thank god for the Rock Band chicks.

- The bond between PBC Productions, Screwattack and DP continues to grow and I really like it. We're meeting more new people every month and the creative juices are flowing. How about a Starcade-like game show featuring members from each group? What if James "Angry Video Game Nerd" is part of this? Ah, what fun we shall have!

- We are going to have one kick ass summer of events. I'm going to need to blast out the walls to the neighboring store for the summer NAVAs... stay tuned.

Pictures to follow tomorrow at http://www.digitpress.com/images/store

So there is one picture of me for the entire event, and it makes me look like Ed Harris sitting on a tack.

Aren't there any Photoshop Heroes out there that can work on this for me? (and don't be an ass and put a flare effect on my forehead)

Perhaps it would help if I had some god-damned hair to cover up that giant bald spot known as "the top of my head."

At least Little Miss Gamer in the background there seems happy to be watching us play.

Awesome pictures! I like how you got me in a few more this time round, however I have to ask will the NWC be on display in the museam or go into a top secret personal connection box lazer guarded?

Hey Don, I never knew you were TVs Hasselhoff. But as soon as I read this line, I figured it was you (and then checked the photo to verify it)

Bills.

I've had it for 5 years and played it once. There are other things I'd rather have so I got rid of it.

I did not know you were TVs Hasselhoff either. I loved the manly grunts you made as you were playing Space Fury Bros!
