I'm sure this topic's been done before, but who knows maybe someone else besides me could use the help.

Anyway, what's the best 72-pin adapter to purchase for my Toaster? I bought one from MCM Electronics a few years back, but the pins were way too tight (I know it's normal for them to be tight, but I remember reading somewhere that they shouldn't be THAT tight), and it broke on me a few months after installing it. So, I'm gonna avoid them this time.

Of course, I'm seeing all these auctions on eBay, various online stores, etc. for new adapters, and I just want to know what you guys think the best one is, based on previous experience.

Now, I'm off to bed.

They are kind of hard to come by but the best ones to buy are actual Nintendo ones. They realized there was a problem with the 72 pin connector and sold replacement ones for a short time. So try and find one of those.

I got my replacement from MCM Electronics in the middle of 2002, and I haven't had a problem since. Maybe you got a bad one. I'd try them again.

Something strange I found with my replacement, though, is that you don't need to press down on the cart after you insert it. You can, but you don't have to in order for it to work.

Yeah, i'm going to have to agree with thepiratemonk3y on this one. The Nintendo ones are definitely the best. I've had a couple of the MCM ones and another gold one that stopped working right after a while. With that 72 pin restoration guide I managed to fix my original perfectly, and trust me, it was in awful condition.

I posted my experience here: http://paunchstevenson.com/2008/01/24/replacing-the-infamously-blinking-nintendo-72-pin-connector/

I got it off Ebay, and have no idea who made it, but it was very tight on the games at first. Starting to loosen up over time. Where on Earth do you find the Nintendo ones, and do they cost $50 each?

Like I said, its pretty difficult to find the official Nintendo ones. Basically (what i think happened) is that Nintendo realized what was wrong with the 72 pin connector they were shipping them out if you called Nintendo describing the usual 72 pin dilemma. It might have even been for free but I'm not sure. Then when Nintendo discontinued servicing the they liquidated what was left.

Basically you have to find someone who was lucky enough to get a bunch of them when they liquidated.
