I know nothing about the Neo-Geo other then it is really expensive.
What do MVS & AES stand for? What is a good place to get info for this system? Where is a good place to buy Neo Geo stuff? Are the games mostly fighter and shooters? One more thing why are they so EXPENSIVE? Seems to me that the home stuff is more than the arcade stuff if so why?
Thanks

If you are going to buy Neo-Geo you should go with the pure consoles AES carts or neo-geo CD's.
If you go for the arcade machine carts without a Neo-Geo arcade cabby you might as well just buy a X-Box and MAME them and save yourself the money because you are cheating anyway if you use them with an AES.

Well, the home stuff is not only made in smaller quantities, but its also more collectible. Added to the fact the only way to play the MVS carts is to have the phantom-1 convertor for your neo geo, and you've got a market with less demand.
MVS=arcade, AES=home console. The CD system is cheap, but has really bad loading times. I've heard stories of my friend reading a chapter of The Hunchback of Notre Dame waiting for his match to load up in king of fighters. Most of the game lineup is fighters, followed by shooters, and then puzzle games. The neo has some top notch fighters and most of its shooters are pretty good. As for its puzzle games, you've got the great Magical Drop 3.
Also, Japanese carts work on a US neo, they aren't region protected. Plus, if your neo is american, it'll play the games in english (most of them). Japanese carts are generally cheaper as well, since they are made in larger quantities then US carts, and are, well, in japanese, at least as far as packaging goes.

Buy or build a supergun and get a MVS board. You can put that all together for a lot less than a home machine and a convertor.
Unless you're really into the collecting aspect and don't mind parting with some serious cash, MVS is the way to go. Emulation is not the same, regardless of what people might lead you to believe.

What do MVS & AES stand for?
MVS=Multi Video System.
AES=Advanced Entertainment System.
FYI there's a complete list, including rarities and prices (brace yourself) of the AES stuff here:

The Neo-Geo CDZ doesn't have the load time problems of the older CD system and it comes with S-Video out. So it's the only Neo-Geo console that can do S-Video without being all cut up and modified.

Thanks for all the info guys. The only way I would get an Neo Geo is if I found it in the "wild". And thats not going to happen. To expensive for me and don't really like fighters and shooters.
I just wanted to know what the terms meant in talking about Neo Geo's and a explanation for the prices.
Thanks again.

Nah, I know about two people that found theirs "in the wild" and for a low chunk of change.

This is where I chime in with a question. I've heard a lot about "Supergun" Neos, what exactly are they? And if you have a good site on how to build it, I'd love to find out. I built the two computers in my house so I have some rudimentary electric skills.

A supergun is basically a RGB>NTSC convertor, Power Supply, Arcade Sticks, and a Jamma strip. So, you can play any Jamma based arcade game (you're not just limited to Neo) on your TV.

Trust me, if you put together a PC, you're overqualified to build a Supergun. LOL
Putting together a Supergun is very simple and a lot cheaper than buying a pre-made one. Plus you can customize it as much as you want. All of the ones I looked at that were already made seemed very limited as far as adding things. Not all JAMMA boards are the same, the MVS for instance uses different pins for the sound than standard JAMMA.
Check the thread Achika linked and if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them.
