View Full Version : Do I have the right to be proud of myself?

So I finally got around to getting my ass to the pawn shop. There, amid several dozens televisions and stereos doubtless sold before the police could track them down, I found the following:

Super Mario 2 and 3, NES, with slipcover and booklet
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, NES, loose (the sheer nostalgia!)
Strider, Genesis, loose
Phantasy Star II, Genesis, loose

The lot put me out around $25. I'm not as good at dealhunting as some of the veterans here, but as a first attempt, I think I did pretty well. :D

There are days I might pay $25 for a loose PSII, although that's when I'm weak.

I wouldn't say it's spectacular, but you definitly got value. I think that the gamestop prices on all those just loose would be a bit above that regardless so not too bad.

I should hit some pawns someday myself.

I'd say you paid right around actual value for those. You didn't get taken, but you didnt' score hard either. No harm no foul, and those are some FUN games! :D

For example tho, I've bought a complete PSII with manual, box, and strategy guide for $6 before.

Pawn shops are a good place to go if you're looking for a specific title, and you aren't too concerned about the price (and it looks like you found some games that fit that description), but if you want the good prices, you gotta hit the flea markets. Pawn shops usually keep up on game prices, so they're usually at least fair value, if not a little overpriced, but flea markets are usually just joe consumer with a closet's worth of 'crap' that he wants to get rid of without paying to take it to the dump. That's where the real deals come in. Just don't get all excited and start jumping up and down when you find your first NES top loader, or the price has a tendency to triple.

Yeah, I think thats a fair deal, I mean, I probably would have paid that for those games. You can't go wrong with PSII and Strider.

Nice finds! Be nice they had the occasional vid game in the thrift and Salvation Army shops in my town.

I never get anything at the pawn shows around here.

I did get a few things at the flee market today though.

Final Fantasy 1 NES with instructions and both maps in mint shape - $3
Bubble Bobble NES with instructions -$3
Kid Icarus NES loose - $1
Tetris Dr.Mario 2in1 cart SNES loose - $1
Complete Atari 2600 5 games 2 extra controllers - $5

Yeah decent stuff but I ran around for FIVE HOURS finding it.

For me nothing beats having a store.

Todays top trade ins
LUNAR 1 and 2 for PSX both mint and complete - $10 each
Atari 800XE complete - $3
