I haven't brought food to NAVA since the March one I believe, looks like this month I shall! Anyone got any suggestions of what to bring? I'll be going to the Supermarket later this week. I usually bring chips and 2 liter's of Pepsi for all to enjoy.

Also, looks like I may be selling some things this month, if any don't sell I'll be donating it to Digital Press.

So, with that said... Anyone looking for Final Fantasy 7 complete?

I'm really looking forward to this NAVA. Sniderman, and John Hardie? Perfect. And I already have a trade/sale lined up with someone. I also really hope there is a random retro tournament. Now is the perfect time. Joe, lets do it! I'll even contribute something as a prize. (though it may not be Atari related)

Also, to the people thinking about bringing food:

Please consider bringing drinks also, or instead.

It seems I'm one of the few who ever brings [non-alcoholic] beverages, and they are always gone really fast. I don't have a problem with them disappearing, since I bring the soda for everyone to enjoy. But a few cases of soda can only last so long, and it would be nice if we had soda left over late at night.

Sparky finally registered! http://www.digitpress.com/forum/member.php?u=22968

It took him three days to figure out how to register on the site, so I doubt he'll figure out how to post in this thread - even though I sent him a link...

We'll be leaving relatively early, because I have a wedding to go to... (another sucker bites the dust!!)

So, with that said... Anyone looking for Final Fantasy 7 complete?

Coincidentally, I just obtained a copy of FF7 yesterday. It includes the original jewel-box-case, the front and back case inserts, and discs 1-3. Assuming there was a booklet, that's missing. If there's any way to work something out, I'd be interested in getting the booklet.

See you Saturday.

I think what he meant to say is that I've "got him covered" for both the Dreamcast and the PS1 1st party RF units he's looking for.

A BIG credit to you Frankie! I thought nobody would have one... Since nobody responded about the PS1 adapter and Dreamcast.

Is anyone interested in an old Titanium Powerbook G4? It's heavily used (it doesn't look visually appealing), and has a pretty much dead battery, but it works fine otherwise and I would be letting it go cheap - $100. I would trade it for a bit more than that. This is the lowest I will go, I would rather keep it than sell it cheaper. I also think it's a great deal. If you are interested in buying/trading let me know!

Powerbook G4
667 MHz
512 MB RAM
15" Display
30 GB HD
DVD-ROM/CD-RW Drive
Airport (wireless) card installed
Comes with power cord (need to use since battery is dead)
Fresh Install of Mac OS 10.4.x

I think you could find a replacement battery for $100 or so.

I also have a 15" iMac G4 with about the same specs (I think). It doesn't work; I think the HD is shot, and it is fine otherwise. I would sell this even cheaper.

Sorry guys, can't make it this month.

.........
Nah, I lied. Thanks to Apollo (Nick) we have a ride there! I think we will be arriving around 2 or 3. I'll actually be selling some stuff this month. If your a forum member, you get $5 off, so make sure you wear that Name Badge! if you don't have one on, you don't get the $5 off!

I'm pretty sure most of you have this stuff, but I'll be selling:

Final Fantasy 7 for PS1 (All 3 Discs and Printable Manual)
NES System w/controller and all wires
NES games like Contra, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros, etc. etc.
Dreamcast system w/ no wires or plugs
Metriod Prime Hunters for Nintendo DS
Gamecube system w/ wires, but no controller, sorry

And... uh... I think I'll have more, if you see anything you like PM me and I'll hold onto it for you, if none sell I'll be selling it to the store.

Oh, and to Joe- is the Wii going to be set up? If so, I'll be sure to bring my controllers and my copy of Super Smash Bros Brawl.

And I’ll be heading out from Ohio within the hour to begin the arduous trek to the frozen wastes of New Jersey. Or something like that. I’ve got a trunk full of stuff including complete PSP, PSX, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and PS2 games – some uber-rare stuff there. I have a stack of Nintendo carts my wife grabbed for me to bring. I have a complete GameCube and Sega Genny/CD system (all cable, power supplies, and controllers included. I have a stack of clocks for everyone’s gamerooms. So stop by and check out the wares.

And I’m looking for the following:
- Getting back into the Atari scene so I’m rebuilding my collection from scratch. Looking for butt-common carts. May pick up a rarity or two, but I’m looking for quantity right now over quality. ;)
- Thinking of grabbing a Virtual Boy as I really miss playing one. A working one would be grand.
- Looking for complete copies of the following Xbox games: Tron 2.0; Call of Cthulhu; Morrowwind; Dragon’s Lair 3D; and Thief.

Anyway, this will probably be my last post until I arrive, so hope to see everyone there. I’ll be the guy in The Hat.

Yeah, as mentioned earlier! Wii and (360) Rock Band most of the day, Atari 2600 for a couple of hours around 6pm (tournament time)!

I'm just back from vacation but there was a Virtual Boy traded in earlier in the week. If it's still there, check off that top item. Secondly, I'd venture to guess that I've got about 250 unique (loose) Atari 2600 games, so I'm sure I can help there. Probably have a few of the XBox games you're looking for as well. Looks like you won't be going back empty-handed!

Catch up with you tomorrow, have a safe trip!

We've got a copy of Brawl at the store, and everything is unlocked (our Wii used to be coldguy's Wii). Don't worry about that stuff. Work on "definitely", "teh" and various other common spelling gaffs that will improve your life imminently more than a game of Brawl. Five years from now you'll thank me for this advice.

Clifton locals surely know "Johnny Cupcakes", who recently changed their name to "Mister Cupcakes". They'll be bringing three dozen of their gourmet 'cakes to NAVA. Available to badge members only! Oh YUM.

Yup, I had a good time at NAVA. The name tag idea was very cool because I met alot of new people that were indeed forum members I never knew, except about 6 people came up to me and kept saying "do you work here?"
As always, NAVA was great.Except one thing- Either I left my Wii Classic Controller at Digital Press, or someone stole it. 'Cause It's not in my bag I brought to NAVA or in the car I took to get home. And I'm very upset about it.....

You know, I sincerely hope it's still at the store due to some oversight. Because if not then this kind of shit has to stop. Do people have to keep their stuff under lock and key in order to have a get together?

this event was amazing, it was my first time at NAVA and digital press period... i was flabbergasted by everything i saw it was gaming paradise. thanks to DastardlyDylan for inviting me to go. i bought resident evil for the gamecube today, played counterstrike, and a plethora of other games that just rekindled my gaming spirit... What a Great NAVA.
The name tag thing was a A+ idea Joe. Even though the people did go up to me also asking me, about games / do you work here.
I felt this helped you guys (store workers) out when the store got crowded, and nobody could help.
Maybe we could keep this NameTag thing for every NAVA.
I met some great people, I bought things (Excellent Prices) I needed.
The funniest thing was when I was in there, another person had the same Hitman Shirt as I have. LOL LOL LOL

Also Dylan I hope you find the controller. I hope it is still at Digital Press..
If someone did steal it, ... PLEASE return it to the store.

I cannot wait until the next NAVA.

While I absolutely sympathize with Dylan on the loss, and I agree that if it did happen at NAVA it sucks that the event is tarnished by such shittiness ...

... I also feel that it's absolutely imperative that people not get TOO caught up in the "safety" of the environment, and keep their eye on their stuff. As much as I believe that the regulars are 100% trustworthy, there are strangers that pass through the store throughout the course of the day that are all capable of who-knows-what.

Hitman Tyler

I got to meet and talk with a bunch of great forum members, like Coldguy, TonyTheTiger (Mike), Frankie Says Relax (Frank), NoahIsMyBro (Steve), Sniderman (Tim), and Dastardly Dylan (Dylan). I got to talk with other great people too, like Katie, Alex, and Eleanor.

I also played drums in Rock Band and sold a SFC-SNES converter. Overall, it was a good Saturday.

I second what Rob said, since I met the same people. Steve and Tim had some good advice on 2nd generation systems for me. I also saw an A/V modded Atari 2600 for the first time, and could not believe it was the same system. I may have to crack out my drill and get to work on mine. I also saw a few 2600 games I haven't seen in action before, and definitely changed my opinion on (as strange as that sounds, years after they came out). I also picked up Genesis Golden Axe II from the store, which I've been looking for, for a long while. Lastly, there's still no chance you'll catch me playing Rock Band...LOL

My appreciation to Joe and his staff.

Well, I just woke up from my nap after my 1,000-mile roundtrip. As always, it was great meeting old friends and making new ones. Here is a list of random thoughts I jotted down over the weekend's events:

- I came, I saw, I calmed the beef min. (Wait for the photos.)
- A bank will only cash in your loose change if you're a member of that bank. So guess who had $50 in quarters all weekend? I paid for most of my meals with loose change for 48 hours.
- The Econolodge room I stayed in last night was only slightly smaller than my bathroom at home.
- If a rest area pop machine eats your $1.50, kiss it goodbye for you have no recourse. Fortunately, I still had a buttload of quarters (see point #1 above).
- If you have flat feet, you should not wear flip-flops for 12 staright hours. Ouch.
- Before merging into the right-hand lane, make sure you're not already IN the right-hand lane. Nearly drove full-bore into a ditch. (Dumbass....)
- If you're the first to show up for a NAVA event, you WILL be drafted for a pop/beer run.
- If you're looking through the VIC-20 section in the DP store and come across an unpriced 8K RAM Expansion cart, I left it there. Tell Joe to give you a good deal on it.
- Apparently my best time on Atari 2600 Dragster is 13.62 seconds. In fact, my ONLY time on Dragster EVER is 13.62 seconds.
- My name is going up on the wall! Yay! I now have to return to defend my title! Boo!
- Shaq Fu is such a bad game, I not only could not give it away for free, but I got turned down when I offered to pay someone $2.00 to take it. So the current estimated value of a complete-in-box Sega Genesis Shaq Fu game is NEGATIVE $2.00.
- The most popular song on Rock Bank at DP is "Black Hole Sun." I am officially sick of that song. And when I clicked on the radio for the first time on the way home, guess what was on? I think the people in the car next to mine heard me scream.
- As soon as you see something you want at a NAVA event, you better jump on it. I missed out on a $12 PSX Clock Tower when I went back 5 minutes later to pick it up. I spent the rest of the event walking up to the counter, buying something, stashing it, getting more stuff, buying it, etc.
- Driving through Pennsylvania fog is like driving through cotton candy. I swear it was like driving with my eyes closed.
- Seeing someone on the side of the road with a flat tire is sad. Seeing someone on the side of the road with a flat SPARE tire is very, very sad.
- And, by some bizarre stroke of bad luck, I also got a flat tire on the way home! Fortunately, it was only 60 miles from home so I was able to put on the spare and limp the rest of the way home on it. But it was major suckatude. :(

Great party as always, thanks to everyone who attended.

Highlights:
- Catching up with Tim. Sniderman came all the way from Ohio and proceeded to win the tournament.
- I had my first "real life" re-union with a high school classmate (see the thread titled "1983" for more details on this summer project). Got all caught up in just an hour or so.
- Though I don't do sugar, all anyone had to do was inhale to catch the sweetness of this event. Pedro's Nintendo-controller cake and the big box of Mr. Cupcakes gourmet stuff topped the usual odd scents of a NAVA gathering.
- I hired some extra help, so this was the first NAVA in a long time where I felt like I got to mingle. I didn't realize how much I missed that.

Lowlights:
- I insulted one of the local kids after he howled through another Rock Band song. I don't feel bad about it, I don't think we'll have to listen to the howling ever again, but this is one kid that must not live the gamer's life of trash talk and blunt jabs.
- I had to turn a few people away from going to the basement because THEY DON'T READ. I don't mind visitors but they need to be accompanied by "DP Staff", which is quite a lot of people in the store, really.
- My "five reasons I'm looking forward to NAVA" had two empty checkboxes when it was all over. A few unfortunate no-shows.

PICTURES ARE UP!

Joe, if you're not already aware, the Rock Band drama of the day is now official NAVA "lore" amongst regulars and your store staff.

As the years pass, I'm sure the story will evolve into something akin to you fighting the offending party in a Shatner/Nimoy-esque "Pon-Farr" match or something.

It was the most hysterical/frightening/shocking event of the day IMO (but didn't AT ALL take away from the awesomeness of the whole event).

Oh yeah? Well here's some more to add to the lore. Check out the comment from "Angel Pit" on my Myspace page. I was gonna delete it but actually it's pretty typical emo-stuff and shall be preserved for historic purposes. If you enjoyed the drama live, I'm sure you'll love the epilogue.

Nah, you, Frank and Mike are "trusted NAVA members". What I would ask you guys to do though, is question anyone you don't think belongs down there. New faces, kids, even old faces that you haven't personally met. If you doubt they should be down there, then they probably shouldn't!

I have no words.

As much as I'd love to go off on a tanget about how this kind of hyper-sensitivity to criticism might be the product of a post-columbine world devoid of good old-fashioned high-school "bullying", I'll just say THIS instead:

If you're going to sing karaoke-style games in public, as a RULE, you need to understand that you're open to criticism from those around you, be it constructive or not.

Even accomplished professionals who get paid to sing are subject to criticsm. (Possibly bad example, BUT it's the best one of MASS negative-criticism that comes to mind at the present - see Britney Spears 2007 VMA performance.)

If a NAVA regular wanted to joke or "bust my balls" about my Rock Band singing, I'm sure as hell self-aware enough to realize that that's PART OF THE RISK of TRYING to sing as well as somebody like Brad Delp, Sting, Bruce Dickenson, or Geddy Lee, and certainly PART OF THE FUN of laughing along with everybody that might have had to suffer through a shitty performance.

I really don't know the offended party personally (or obviously WELL ENOUGH personally), but I couldn't have possibly imagined it going down the way it did.

If you're going to sing karaoke-style games in public, as a RULE, you need to understand that you're open to criticism from those around you, be it constructive or not.

This is something that I agree with 150%. If I bombed on a song, I appreciate all feedback on it. **Note to Joe: 'Rio' is much harder than 'Girls On Film' on Rock Band..ask Frankie :)**. Also, something that I've learned about the gaming community is to take everything with a grain of salt. If this type of emo-drama happened on lets say Neo-Geo.com, there would probably be an all weekend flaming going on to no end. One thing that I'll say that this event brought out is that even if you think you're good at a game you should practice, practice, and practice some more. There shouldn't be a need for WHINEkens, french CRIES, Whine w/ cheese, nor is there a need to call a WAAAHmbulance around here. Take the good with the bad and take the constructive criticism.

The NAVA event very well and I totally didn't mean on leaving Politika at the store. When I woke up the next morning, I was asking myself "Where the hell is that board game?!?", after an "Oh $#!%" moment I called the store to confirm that it's still there. I think Dragster should be the Thunderdome of tie breakers at the store. I remembered that game all too well and remember my cousins always kicking my ass off the line.

I did end up finding my missing "The World Ends With You" in the trunk of my car. Thank God it didn't happen again:).

Until the next NAVA, I hope to see all there!

Oh, so THAT'S what that noise was. I thought a cat had snagged its balls on a barbed wire fence.

As a guy who did stand-up on a semi-pro basis years ago and who was heckled off stage more times than once, I can say that this kid needs to "Man Up, Nancy." If he can't take criticism, he should never put himself out there. The world is not there to caress and soothe your shattered ego. We do not view you as a Fragile Snowflake and we do not owe you a lick of sympathy. That said, had he laughed it off or shrugged and went on singing, he would've gained respect and possibly applause just for the Big Brass Ones he showed. But instead he had to whine - on an Internet message board no less - that his "widdle feewwings were hurted." Yeah, THAT move won't garner further ire. :hmm:

I am Happy, they found it for you.. So you say it was in a wierd spot, at least it was so wierd that nobody thought to look there and steal it. :p
Thanks Tyler. I still find it strange that it was in that spot, but nevertheless I'm happy it had been found. I wanna apologize to everyone who read that post in case I caused drama. It's just that I've been hearing alot of stealing going around at NAVA, and when I came home from NAVA with no controller, I was hurt.

Oh, and I must say the cake you made the freakin' delicious.

- I had to turn a few people away from going to the basement because THEY DON'T READ. I don't mind visitors but they need to be accompanied by "DP Staff", which is quite a lot of people in the store, really.

Yeah, sorry about that. I invited 3 more of my friends from School and once they read the sign about going in the basement when they got there, they were dying to go down. I know for a fact I'm not allowed down there alone so I told them to ask you. As for Angel (Friend) who ran downstairs, I didn't expect to see that happen, but he went down to get his brother who went down before him cause they were leaving. I'll be sure to keep control of my friends at future NAVA's.

Yeah, one of the many reasons I don't sing in Rock Band, my horid voice. If I was him and Joe said that to me, of course I would take it as a joke, I seriously thought that chairs were going to get thrown and fists flying, but hell it's a party of video games and fun! I hope nothing like this happens again.

Anyways, Just saw the pictures and sweet! I'm in 1! As I said before it was great meeting DP members who I didn't know who DP members were, and it was awesome having people come up to me and asking if I work there, ha ha.

Until next time guys, see you next month. I'm out to play some Super Mario RPG on the VC.

Both were highly appreciated gestures of kindness ;)!

OK Dylan... "a lot of stealing going on at NAVA?" You're getting misinformation and very bad misinformation at that. There has been exactly ONE reported case of stolen property at NAVA. That was OMF's GTAIV two months ago. Previous and since that time, nothing reported. I truly believe this was an anomaly where some local kid caught everyone at a busy time. Even since then, we all pay more attention at busy times.

I know for a fact I'm not allowed down there alone so I told them to ask you.

YOU are alllowed down there, and you can bring friends as long as you are watching them and are prepared to be accountable for them. They cannot leave your sight. If you care to venture down alone, no problem.

Again, the big fascination with the basement eludes me. It's a lot of stuff, but it's JUNK that's already upstairs or not worthy of space already taken up by other stuff. Whatever.

I seriously thought that chairs were going to get thrown and fists flying, but hell it's a party of video games and fun! I hope nothing like this happens again.

I'd rather have chairs and fists flying than supposed apologies and false pretenses. I told that kid that I didn't think he sings good but go ahead and sing anyway and lighten up. He was fine for the rest of the night but I guess he got home, stewed over it, and decided to send me a "mean" message in myspace.

Anyways, Just saw the pictures and sweet! I'm in 1! As I said before it was great meeting DP members who I didn't know who DP members were, and it was awesome having people come up to me and asking if I work there, ha ha.

The funny thing is that ever since the incident, I never bought another copy of GTA IV nor have I had the urge to play it. That copy wasn't even opened and thought to myself "This may have been an impulse buy." I've been either busy with the cabs, PC Engine, Dreamcast, or the handhelds.

Now onto finding Japanese cabinet parts.

Seriously. I saw it coming, too. One of those slow motion moments where you have enough time to think "no way is this about to happen." The second he looked up and said something like "I didn't do anything to you" I walked away. I was embarrassed for him. Mainly because I can't imagine having such thin skin. Nice way to lighten the mood though with the follow up joke made at Joe's expense.

What's funny to me was that it wasn't even really "criticism" so to speak. It was actually something akin to an elbow jab. You would think being that sensitive would get so tiresome after a while (since everything would offend you) that you'd just say "screw it" due to the fatigue.

On another note, it was cool talking about bands that should be on Rock Band at the event. I forgot the name of who I talked to, but we talked about Public Image Limited and Johnny Rotten's innability to interview (or ability to screw up an interview intentionally).

OMF, Joe and I talked to you about Johnny Rotten. (Did you get my PM that I have your shirt?)

The follow up joke was as much damage control as I could muster amidst the craziness.

Yet if you take the whole thing around full circle, and, look at it from another perspective - it was more of a "poke in the rib" than the "slap in the face" that Joe pulling him aside and privately saying something along the lines of "I don't want you singing at NAVA meetings" could have been. (not that Joe ever had any intention to do that)

I would have picked the "gag" route myself considering all the "ball-busting" that we do to each other at NAVA.

If it were me (and again, I can only speak for myself or judge the situation from my own POV) I would rather have a bunch of people I "party" with treat the situation with a joke (even one at my expense) in front of everybody than address it to me in private.

It was mentioned earlier, and I agree that this would have easily been a moment for a chance to eat a slice of humble pie, take one on the chin, swallow some pride and laugh along with the crowd.

Perhaps if that's how it all went down, we wouldn't be having this discussion, everybody would have moved along and the point needed to be made would have been made.

But, again, that's just me speaking as an adult ... maybe if I was a teenager in that spot I would feel differently and/or act the same (I doubt I would, but who knows).

I am done with Flickr, I will just use Facebook from now on with my photos. I will get around to posting all the pictures I took up to this point on Facebook. I posted all 57 pictures from the August NAVA [including the ones I got of you Joe ;)] at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2096897&l=328f3&id=26107746. I use Megavideo because it will accept any video up to 5 gb in size and since I do not have software to compress with [well, I have iMovie but that takes the sound out of my videos so that is no good], Megavideo makes things nice and easy. Plus, despite the advertisements, Megavideo has some nice features like being able to buffer from any point in the video even if it not fully loaded [I THINK youtube can do this now but I have never been able to do it] and, if your a member, you can even download any video uploaded on their site.

I gotta ask, what actually happened? All I'm getting is there was some kid who couldn't sing to save his ass and you asked him to stop, did it actually come to a verbal shout-out or did you have to argue about it with him or something?

Just kind of curious now after reading the comments of people who were there...

Soon as we have the extra money for the trip, the wife and I are going to NJ for a week and I'm going to make it a point to go to one of these events, we were out there about a year or so before I joined the forums, and stayed bye Menlo Park. Iv'e been kicking myself in the ass ever since I found out DP was based in NJ, and I had the opportunity to go to the store and missed it...

Guess he was upset at someone telling him that he sucks, go figure?

You think that's bad, try ribbing Leonard Hermann on when his next book will come out.

Man...you'll have to run to Cracker Barrel twice to get enough cheese to compliment all of his whine.
