Awesome. I somehow missed this thread until today, but found it to be pretty bitchin'. Since I've been a member of this site, I've been inspired to go out and play things I have missed during my Nintendo centric childhood. Thanks Joe, you've helped create another video game collector out there.

Super congrats, Joe! (next time plug TooManyGames 8*)

Was anyone else thinking of this video when those two guys were manhandling Joe's rarities?

I dunno...

It was great to have the coverage, which helps to reach out other video game collectors. And it was also nice to see Joe in person.

But in another aspect...I dunno, it made me think things over...

But still, going on the positive side, I hope the video brings more cusomters to the site and to the store, as well as propagate classic gaming.

I'd just like to say that this was much better then that one Newspaper article you did about a year ago.

I think I'm like the only person on SHMUPS Forum who knows how to spell "Joe Santulli" right :P

Quote:

All that stuff and he's playing on a x-arcade. That's just not right.
Is that right? Naughty.

Also, no offense but those three "collect this!" games are rubbish and I wouldn't buy them unless it was only for money. It'd be great if I was a hardcore gaming investor and didn't give a rip about ever seeing the games I bought for investment, though...you probably get a bigger return on the expensive titles anyway (just like you get a better return buying a lot of stock at once, as opposed to buying smaller amounts when the mood hits you; for gaming it's fees, and for stocks it's again fees).

Great segment! Actually the most positive contribution about game collecting I've seen in mainstream media.

Don't worry about the reduced soundclips. I never met a guy who was not dissatisfied with a two-hour interview reduced to two-minutes.

You came over as well spoken, concise, giving great tips, well beyond the nerdy stereotype, and an insight presentation that there are very valuable videogame items to collect. Certainly new for lots of people.

But you know what I enjoyed most about this clip and I think was the most important part? The enthusiasm for games and collecting was presented. It cannot be explained, it is irrational, it is a fascination, we all got hooked at one time; and this enthusiasm for playing games because they are just plain fun came over in a very positive light. This is the source for collecting, no matter if someone owns 50 or thousands of games.

Honestly, I took the tip about goals to heart. I definitely needed to be reminded of that.
I started off collecting just planning on getting all the Nintendo systems and handhelds since I thought I already had a good start, but once I found out just how much stuff was out there I started grabbing up everything. I'm totally happy with everything I have because of it, but it just reminds me that I had a goal and didn't stick with it. If I were to go that direction again with the kind of start I've got now, there's no telling how much more stuff I'd decide I need to get.
The clip inspired me to put down on paper an official "wanted" list so I'm not just buying anything I see because I don't already have one.

Nice to see you get your 15 minutes of fame Joe. If anyone deserves this you do. You have been an integral part of the hobby for the longest time. Also I am happy that Save the Whales, Lochjaw, and Video Life were featured. It irritated me to no end that Quadrun was thought of a the "Holy Grail" of collecting Atari 2600 games with the Antique Road Show. I would not be surprised if Lochjaw shows up a couple of times for auction as a result of this segment.

Great segment! Actually the most positive contribution about game collecting I've seen in mainstream media.
It almost seemed to me like they were fairly bemused by Joe's declarations of value. They got thrown off by the "two?" line, which is pure comedy when viewed a certain way.

It wasn't critical, but that wasn't their intention.

Joe was amazing, which I should have mentioned more clearly before. I bet he could give a passionate and well-received defense of the hobby; great spokesman for collecting.

I thought it was great, yes the brothers were a little "out there," but almost every person in the world views games as not much more than a toy or something to have fun with- the actual knowledge of value isn't mainstream yet.

Joe did a fantastic job keeping his cool when they were handling his games. They didn't handle them poorly, but NOBODY will ever treat someone's possessions the same way they treat their own, and it's not like they tried to open the box or anything.

I'm pretty sure that is most of the basement ANYONE will see if you haven't visited the store to buy something or attend a NAVA. It's super secret down there.

I like that little "turn around and face the camera" move you do during your introduction :)
Looks like all that time spent giving talks to salespeople and potential customers in the business world paid off well; you come off as very cool, calm and collected.

Wow, I just read that guy's blog entry. I don't know what to say.

Joe, please ignore the negative things that guy wrote. As I've written before, today's writers feel like everything needs to be snarky. Why? Is being thoughtful and intelligent really that difficult?

I don't think the author made up for it. His blog entry is still there, unchanged. Yes, he posted a comment sort-of-but-not-really apologizing, but that shouldn't count.

You guys had me all worked up. I thought it was some "pro" panning my little moment. If I had known it was just some kid in some random blog I wouldn't have even clicked. But since I did, I went ahead and added a little comment of my own.

By the way, thanks for sticking up for me, DAO2.

Sorry, maybe I got myself too worked up. I know it's just a random blog, but still, why the hate?

I just read the comment you left and you handled the situation perfectly.

It's the I-Mockery effect. Lots of people expect blogs to be irreverent and funny. That leads people to try a little too hard and come off as tools instead of comedians.

I just looked it over and it came across like these two guys acted like morons so the piece is bad. Even thought that isn't the case.

I wonder if you are be posting your blog entries on Dtoid Joe...might get another audience to comment in.

At last I get to see mighty ol' Joe and part, and I emphasize on part of his 30,000+ videogames collection, because not everything was shown. I would LOVE to see all those games myself in person, and buy some games from Joe's store as well. Fuckin' awesome!!

That was an excellent vid :) It could have seemed really geeky but it just didnt at all.

I almost know how it feels to get your 5 mins of fame (no where near as great) when I got my 2 pages in Retro Gamer Magazine with my collection, I was really nervous about seeing it and what people would think. In the main I was worked up over nothing and people were cool with it. I got a couple of negative comments on some forums but I didnt let it get to me. My none Retro Gaming friends were even impressed and i think thats what your video does.. none Retro Gamers would think its was cool aswell as the Gamers.

Congrats.

Hi Rupe, it's nice to see ya here mate. On what volume of Retro Gamer was your collection featured? I'd like to grab that issue to see that, even though I've seen plenty of times. ;)

I don't know if you're trying to be humble or something, but honestly this thread needs a sticky imo, this is pretty big thing imo and definetely great exposure for you and the community.

Found it weird that I read about it once it got bumped, THIS IS AWESOME! STICKY!

Thanks for digging it out of two months of slumber, totally missed it!

Congrats on the attention Joe, looks like you get more than just 5 minutes of fame. :)

Your store is 364 miles, about 7hrs drive on a good day away. Are there any annual game conventions around there (within an hours drive) that runs 3-4 days?
