I thought the whole avatar idea was stupid...until I was forced to do it(the new update REQUIRES that you go through the motions). Since then I've had 2 people comment how eerily accurate my avatar looks. Maybe I'll keep it.

I really think this is stupid. It's not cool on the Wii anymore and it sure isn't cool on the 360. I tried and tried to find a way to avoid making this thing, but to no avail.

The new update seems pretty sweet overall...My only problems with it so far are the white font on green menus/cards and I wish they would have integrated themes in a little better.

You know how a theme had multiple background images? From what I can see the theme that is used now only uses one of those background images and is also about 80% covered up by other things on the screen including the top half of the Xbox Globe logo (which takes up about 30% of the bottom of the screen) When applied they also dont have any real effect to the menus/cards. Those always look the same.

I guess it depends on the theme. I haven't messed around with that many of them. I guess some have more then others and some get covered up pretty badly.

Yeah, The pic is either stretched out really funny or covered up. The other pics in old themes are used on other pages/blades. Kinda pisses me off as I just bought two themes I really liked last week, one being the Castlkevania SON, and now I can't really use them. Waste of points.

Now they have premium themes that add backgrounds throught the menus.

I've been having a few problems trying to browse different things. Have had it lock up for 30 seconds while trying to browse friends avatars.

Speaking of crashes, it booted me completely and now it looks like XBL is offline.

Probably overloaded the network status icon over at the xbox site is red ...

How can they NOT accomodate for network traffic with launches like this?

They know how many consoles are out there, how many registered XBL users there are ... I mean, it's no shock, but seriously every large rollout like this service goes down.

Wow, XBL is still up ... it was my hardware - my 360 actually crashed my router! It's never done that before ... I suppose a crash on the NXE caused a serious data collision on the IP that was assigned to it.

I didn't even bother to customize one....just picked one. I don't care at all. IF you could turn the damned thing off, I would...but there's not even a damned OPTION to! I hate this whole new setup. By the way...why aren't there any fat-ass avatars?

Reasons why the NXE is a pain in the ass:

It's harder to access all the functions I use. I can't turn off those irritating avatars. I turned off the ridiculous cutesy noises all the menus make. It defaults to shit like Spotlight which I have no interest in, instead of defaulting to my game or profile. It's harder to access my video library because it doesn't separate folders from files anymore. It's something like 5-10x slower to access all downloads (that's due to load I suspect tho). The "themes" are now barely visible...and the default ones suck...I'm sure as hell not PAYING for them.

Why isn't there a setting to switch to the old blade system? Grrrr. It's not like it'd cost them a dime or make anything incompatible. Unfortunately, I'm FORCED to use the new system as I mostly use my 360 as a media player for DL shows and you can ONLY do that while the system is online. Bah.

I'll edit this later with the pic, but for now, let me say I am not unhappy with the new look and feel. However I did not like the fact that trying to download Mirror's Edge demo heated my 360 up to the point where my coolig fans began to wail and I got the red semi-circle of death. Still under warranty, but still a club I didn't want to join. :(

My family really enjoyed the avatars and I'm looking forward to using the Netflix, but overall, I'd rather just be playing Fallout 3. :(

I was going to reply again before any of my friends start hating on me. I took like 3 minutes to make one while I waited for my friends to hop on for left 4 dead. I look pretty much exactly like Dangerboy but with a different hair cut, mouth and shoes.

I thought it was stupid, but the feature is semi-robust and, I mean, fuck, he looks like me. A cleaner looking, more attractive version, anyway. Jury's out on the NXE. Fuckin' glitching out like crazy and shit when I try to access the marketplace, and all my themes are useless. Nice going, asshats.

Looks exactly like me, which is weird. So far 4 people at work have come up and said that.

I don't really like the new system. Maybe I'm just too used to the old one, but it's hard to access things on my account (arcade games, videos on the mac, etc..). I kinda like avatars, but I agree with what people have said that there should be an option not to make one. Not everyone is going to want to, or upgrade to the new live. I think I'd rather keep the old live if I could. Not to mention I had to reset my system about 5 times because it would freeze when looking at friend pages (although it's probably just because everyone was updating yesterday).

Mine doesn't crash but for a while I thought it had. It seems to lock up for about five seconds if I try to move away from friends/friend parties. I think I preferred the old system just because it was quicker...

Xbox Assboard - So I grabbed the new Xbox dashboard last night. My least favorite new feature is the one were it locks up my box when I try and look at my friends list. Then I have to restart and it freezes again. Then I do that about seven more times before I throw my controller and play WOW. I liked how in the old Dashboard I could use it without it breaking my Xbox. Maybe that's just me.
