View Full Version : Need help identifying an old Break-Out handheld
Back in 1981 or 1982, some girl in my class used to bring in this handheld Break-Out game. She even let me borrow it one day. The problem is, I haven't seen anything similar since. I searched Google and couldn't find it. I remember it being long and black, with a paddle-type controller. It could have been called Super Break-Out, not sure. I don't remember much else, as it wasn't mine and I didn't play with it for that long. I'll tell you what it is NOT though. It is NOT the picture below. Please help me, HH experts!

Yeah, it sure does. The one I'm thinking of doesn't though. It's black.

I was just reading about that the other day. It's a part of the Atari Museum. I read it on their website.

No, it was just long and flatish, not upright at all like the Coleco tabletop games. However, it is possible it wasn't Break-Out in name, but possibly a clone. I though I remembered it saying Break-Out, but I was only in the 4th grade. I am cerrtain it played like Break-Out though, and had a mini paddle. I THINK the ball and blocks were of bright red color.

Let me take a guess. Was it one of Tomy's electromechanical games?

Some of these are pretty cool. I hope you find it. I went throught this same thing about a year ago. A neighbor(in 1981) had a hand held "Split Second" and I could not remember the name. I searched ebay....nothing. I finally found the Handheld Museum and went through every single company. I finally found it and ordered one on ebay. The game is just as fun as I remember. Try checking out the site Ryaan mentioned above: http://www.handheldmuseum.com

That's not it, but you brought back another blast from the past that I had, this time in the late 70's. I had totally forgotten about Digital Derby, thanks! :)
Anyway, the game I am thinking of in my OP is certainly either Break-Out or a clone of some sort.

Uuuh ... so, why the picture of something it isn't? Because it really looks like coreys429's answer.

Wow. I had that. It also reminded me of Blip. The commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB-jyKJ3mEE) is exactly how I remember it! 8-)

Why did I post a picture of something it isn't? Simple, to narrow it down. I figured if I didn't post that pic, a lot of people would ask me if that was it.
Hmm, it could be this. Damn, it's been so long I'm not sure now. :(

No, it was black and didn't tilt, it was totally flat. I think the one I posted a couple of posts back is it. Maybe. :)
