Before telling to anybody what is the new project I'm working on, I want to tell you that ...

I did 10 years of ColecoVision programming (1999-2009) and to celebrate that I'm starting a new secret project, secret about the game itself, not about the project.

To mark this new release to be next summer (I hope), I want to let people decide the cartridge color. I did a video on youtube and those who can response to it, go ahead and vote for your favorite color.

Note : I added subtitles for those who can't hear the audio track, but I'm not 100% sure if the subtitles are right. You can always turn off these subtitles by clicking in the up arrow sign at the bottom right of the video box.

Don't ask for details about the project, it's a secret.

I like the old school black. When are you going to let the secret out of the bag?

I'd say black. Variations of black/gray are the only decent colors to use for cartridges. All others look cheesy.

I don't think a white or a see through white would look bad at all

Black, else your overhead is going skyrocket the price of the cart. Keep it cheap.

However, offering a transparent special limited edition would be good for the collectors.

How about using the cartridge color to determine manufacture order 1-10 transparent blue, 11-50 trans red, 51-100 trans yellow, 100-200 red, and all the rest black!

I second this idea.

Nice plan, but you'd be paying for it. My Step-Father runs an injection moulding business and there's no way he'd change colour every 10 cart shells unless you were really making it worth his while. Even then you'd hear some pretty colourful language. There's a minimun amount of plastic you can put in the hopper, and that's way more than 10 carts, even on the smallest machine. Depends how many copies you're planning to do, but you're not going to get lots of different colours at a reasonable price unless it's a decent quantity of each colour, like 250/500.

smoke black or transparent

BTW, I'm pretty certain I figured out what the secret project is. I bet it's a web browser for the CV!

The minimum per color is 100 units... and I don't think I will release more than 100 cartridges of this project, so I'm limited to one color, and these colors mentioned are actually the cheapest ones.

I will not tell you the secret, but I can tell you that it's not to surf the Internet, even a simulated one.

There is a first reveal hint about this project here...

Black works fine since it's like the rest of the carts. If you choose a color then I'd go with green since there's like a whole five classic games released in a green cart.

I can release it with black shells, but there is all these possibilities that I never had the chance to try so maybe I will go with a color this time... but, I prefer to let you decide, because I can't.

I think green looks pretty good too. If you make your game look unique, people will be able to spot it quickly when looking through games. Red has already been used for the Fisher Price games

I thought you "retired"?

I did retired for almost a year, and I'm not as active as before. And this project is very special, I can't miss it because I already said that I will stop making new Coleco games.

My 10 years of Coleco programming will be official very soon (February 9). And next year (end of August 2010), it will be the 10 years anniversary of my first release in cartridge of my Coleco games with the help of John Dondzila. So I decided to mix these two "10 years" celebrations into a single special project that will take almost one year to concret.

Meanwhile, I have plans to release 2 Coleco titles this year. And next year will be my last big effort.

10 years of Coleco programming, I think it's a good reason to celebrate!

Charcoal Grey!

Whatever color you choose, don't make it transparent, or clear. For some reason Clear or Transparent is the color that all the carts are when you buy a backup device for systems. I think it has been overdone and will make the project look like just another hack.

Thats my 2 Cents!

But I'm not choosing the color, I let you decide. And so far, I still have no idea which color is the most popular. Keep posting your responses about your favorite color for the cartridges.

This is not related to the secret project, but it's related to the 10 years of Coleco programming I've done. I'm celebrating!

And i thought she's gonna rip her bra top off :-)I prefer to avoid what is considered as nudity on Youtube, even if it's just a drawing made with a bunch of pixels. That's also why I hesite to publish a review about the games Bustin-Out; I already talked about Breakout and Dacman, so chronologically it's the next game to talk about.

Ok, the voting time is over.

The votes here are in majority for black cartridges (4 votes), and I didn't count the negative votes (any color except ..., not color ...) because they are didn't vote for a specific color. And I didn't count the colors that doesn't match the selection from the video, like charcoal grey.

For people who did vote, this is the result from this forum.

black (4 votes, but 2 also voted transparent at the same time)
smoke black (1)
white or milky (1)
transparent (2)
green (2)

What is the conclusion?

Well, If I say that voting for 2 colors means .5 points for each color :

3 - black
1.5 - green
1 - transparent
.5 - smoke black
.5 - white
.5 - milky

I will be back with the votes from the comments section of the video itself.

It's confirmed, black is the color you did vote for... even if I substart 2 or 3 duplicated votes.

So, the special secret project will be done with classic black cartridges.

But, I decided to order anyway a special batch of cartridges for the other projects I'm currently working on.
