View Full Version : burning questions about Elite 360

I buy and sell 360 systems on a fairly regular basis so I'm constantly upgrading my "keeper" system as I get better and newer systems in. This week I was finally able to snag an Elite system that I can swap for my Pro. I was pretty pumped about this until I turned it on: it is really freaking loud. It's not the disc drive either, it's all fan. I normally watch TV at about 10 volume, but I had to turn it up to 20 when this thing was on.

I guess my first question is, what the heck? Why is it so loud? I've probably run about twenty systems and none of them have been this loud, even a launch system. The Elite is a Zephyr made in March of 2007 if that matters.

Secondly, is there any reason to keep this system and not just swap the 120 gb for my 20 gb HDD? I prefer the look of the white, they both have HDMI and Zephyr boards, and the white is about 8 months better on the warranty front. On the other hand I feel bad about breaking up the Elite package, and my Pro has a crappy eject button.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Jokes? I've got one! Two hats are sitting on a coat-rack. One turns to the other and says, "I'll stay here, you go on a head." Buh-dum!

I recently sold my white 360 and got a used Elite. The fans sound about the same however when the disk starts spinning, the Elite sounds like a fighter jet. My old 360 was definately not that loud when spinning the disk. I guess each Elite has a mind of its own.

EDIT: My Elite was manufactured in mid 2008.

i would do what you want to do, just be careful if there is something wrong wth the system.

My Elite's fans are much quieter than my Pro console's fans... but then my Pro is a 2006 model, Elite is 2008.

The only way to silence your fans is to mod your system and put in custom fans. With games installed on my HDD the system is more quiet than my PS3, which is pretty quiet as it is.

I had my elite less than one year and got constant disc read errors after my fans kept getting louder and louder. One day it just stopped reading them altogether. Sending it in for a replacement, so hopefully its just a first-wave issue.

Just swap the drives and keep the Pro. Aside from the things you've already mentioned, there's nothing special about the Elites.
