Okay, I've wondered this for a while, and I need an answer. Sometimes when I play an NES title with the Game Genie, it doesn't work. The game boots up fine and I can play it, but the codes do not function. The main game I encounter with this is Popeye, none of the codes work at all.

My question is, is this caused by Galoob making multiple updated versions of the Game Genie? I bought it loose, but I was also given an instruction manual for it.

I can't name them off the top of my head but I've come across some games that do this as well...I wonder what causes it?

Some games have differnt revisions to the code, and thus the game genie codes don't do the same thing on each reivision, lots of games have updated codes, but many revisions weren't found at the time when they were actively making new codes. I remeber for ff2 snes, the code that would give you extra gold on one revision would freeze the game at the end of battle on another revision....but! if you turned the effect switch off, you'd gain millions of experience points and a full amount of items in EVERY battle. EE39-076E Was the code I believe.

also it seems as in the case of this game the infinite Lives Code by Galoob was poorly made the second one i listed should work

Sometimes you get games that just won't boot up in a game genie as well

I've had two copies of NES Robocop 2, and neither would start up in the Genie, but worked fine on their own

That's kinda strange, but you know it could be because of the pins on the game genie itself. Back in the day, when I had a cart that had trouble loading up with all the flashing screens and all, I'd put it in the game genie with no codes and it would work.

I've had codes that wouldn't work for Super Castlevania on Snes. But then I found out that some only work when put in by themselves. So for instance, putting three codes in for one game will make none of them work. Unfortunately you have to use alot of trial and error for some games.
