The problem with that was that it was an April Fool's joke. I was inspired by that to want it for real. I'm thinking they need to add as much memory to the cartridge as possible before the voltage burns the 2600 out, then work from there. Programmers have already made quasi-3D looking games for the 2600, like Survival Run, Escape from the Mindmaster, Tunnel Runner, and Skeleton+. Just start chucking technology at the problem until you come up with a satisfying conclusion. Put a co-processor on the cartridge. Add 64K of ROM and 256K of RAM. Some hardware and software people need to make this happen. Lock themselves in a room with a development machine and don't come out until they've got a game ready to ship!

Actually, that'd be awesome. Base it on half life 2, replace Gordon Freeman with Winston Smith. The game is now set in 1984 in Airstrip One. Well, you think the year is actually 1984, you can never know for sure. Your mission? To meet up with O'Brien, obtain "the book", concentrate Goldstein's forces and take down Big Brother. All the while you're working as a double agent in the Ministry of Truth avoiding detection from your co-workers, the telescreens and thought police. Eventually you have to determine the secrets of room 101 through a series of minigames.

Then they could release a spin-off real time strategy game called 1984: War is Peace. It's a typical RTS between three forces, Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. However, unlike a normal RTS, the purpose of 1984: WIP isn't to win the war, but instead to be perpertually at war with the purpose destroying the surplus products of human labour in a psychologically acceptable way. You'll form (and break alliances) with one of the other two forces. You'll build bigger and better weapons and floating fortresses. You'll never win the game, it never ends, but you'll get bonus points for keeping the standard of living for the proles and outer party members as low as possible.

I would buy either of those two games. :D
