View Full Version : What do you collect? V2.0

Right now, my focus is on SNES and N64.
I also have a PS2 and Gamecube, and a small collection for both (along with a small collection of PSX stuff) and I buy games for those when I find something I want at a good price, or a cheap game that looks like something I'd enjoy.
I'd collect for Genesis and NES, but lack of room limits me. However, if I found a great deal on one of those systems, I wouldn't pass it up.
I'm considering getting a GBA in the future. We'll see.

My interests are 16-bit, a little bit of NES and a few current titles. I have collections of Neo-Geo AES (complete), LaserActive (US complete, Jp near complete), Dreamcast (US sealed complete), Virtual Boy (US complete), TurboGrafx (just half of all 97), and 100+ Gamecube (only the best titles).
I also have a small number of games on Saturn, Jaguar, SNES, N64, Lynx, PC-Engine, Xbox, Sega-CD, these tend to be the games I really want to play rather than collecting.
I'm starting looking into Naomi, although officially the games are ported to Dreamcast, many games are in fact cheaper than their Dreamcast counterpart, plus the cartridge form is much more reliable for used products, it's known that used Dreamcast games have many issues from just tiny scratches. I know for sure I won't collect games of current systems as the ratio of junks on PS2/Xbox are disproportionally high (even GC) compared to most 16-bit systems.
Ideally I'd love to collect and aim for complete SNES/Super Famicom, PC-Engine (not US), MegaDrive (not Genesis), and Japanese Saturn collections, but realisticly they'll put me into bankrupcy and I'll have little time to even play all those games.

I collect (and trade) Atari 2600, 5200 and 7200 as well as Colecovision, Nes and Snes. I've got about 450 games in all, but what I enjoy most about collecting is getting a sweet deal on something when you'd least expect it, that's rich.

I recently completed my goal of reaching 100 Dreamcast games (yes, I have quite moderate goals) and have nearly 200 SNES cartridges so I may go for that goal next. I also want to eventually reach 200 Playstation games in my collection (I like round numbers) so I'll be working on that off and on though I'm not as close to reaching that number as I am with the SNES collection.
I am a fairly recent XBox owner so I will continue to look for good but cheap games for that system.

Anything concerning N64 and Zelda. The only problem is, I have a VERY limited income, and I keep seeing things that aren't N64 related that I just have to have (like an MB Donkey Kong board game I got recently)

I mainly focus on the Nintendo 64. I also collect for all the Game Boys and Game Cube. When I get a NES or SNES I'll collect for them too.
Mostly Saturn, though that collection is slowly winding down... I'd say in less than 6 months it'll just be Derisoba Deluxe, Eyeful Home, and Heim Waltz left, and those can wait for a year or two for all I care.
Right now I'm transitioning into the PC-Engine market... though maybe a bit too fast I'm thinking...

I know I have already posted in this thread before but while I own 20 something systems and have been collecting for all of them I have limited my collecting. I now collect mainly for nintendo systems(every one except virtual boy, don't have one) because I enjoy playing those systems the most and I'm sick of collecting stuff that I don't play. I will buy the occasional turbo grafx or 2600 game but mainly nintendo from here on. Hopefully I'll save some money.

I collect mainly for the NES and SNES. I file every game that I have, such as when I purchased them, where, the price and where I bought them from. My Playstation 1 collection seems to be growing quite large so I need to start filing them as well.
The two main systems I collect for are the SNES and the N64. I'm mostly into playing games, not collecting them. For example I have an SNES flash card that plays almost every SNES game, so I am only collecting those games that the card doesn't play. For N64, I collect whatever games are both unique to that system and are fun to play. I refuse to collect for CD based systems, I've had bad experiences buying them in the past so I would rather just collect burned copies of the games. As well, I try only to collect loose games for the most part, because like I said I'm interested in playing the games.

I've allready posted in here, but things have changed since then.
I'm currently collecting 'hardcore' for the following:
Master System (about 15 more games to go) all boxed or complete
32X (about 4 more games to go) all complete
NES (about 100 more games to go)
SNES (alot to go)
N64 (total of about 100 boxed or complete games)
Other than that, I collect a little bit for:
Genesis
Gamecube
GameBoys (all of them; DS, Color, etc..)
2600
7800
Plus, I've collected for the following (completed US collections, so I don't really 'collect' for them anymore:
Intellivision
Virtual Boy

My true love is the SNES. Since I had one when I was a kid and I enjoyed it, I really wanted to collect for that. When I first started collecting I didn't even have a SNES because I had sold my old one. I collected everything that I didn't have when I was a kid like for the NES and Genesis, because I thought it would be cool, but I don't like them as much as the SNES.
I've been mainly collecting for SNES now. Trying to get all of the games I used to have (A couple more to go.. like Smash TV, UN Squadron, Mystical Ninja) and also I'm collecting pretty much any game I can find for the SNES. To me it's just a fun system to collect for.

I collect all game systems (minus clones and pongs). I don't think I'll ever have a complete collection for any system that I currently own, but thankfully, I don't really have an interest to. For me, as far collecting is concerned, as it's the hardware that makes me happy. :)

I've gotten into hobbies in music so I've started drifting away from collecting crap and started only really wanting to hold onto the game systems and my favorite games on each. The rest of the games? ahh there's too many to collect, not enough money and not enough space. I want my money back!
Still I think collecting systems rather than games is more interesting as you tend to really want to keep games that are a particular system's strong point anyway. Some systems really do well for certain genres while others not so much.

Wow... haven't seen THIS thread in a while! Anybody else have any updates?
I'm mostly focusing on newer consoles and any/all of my handhelds nowadays... my tiny collection of DS games is growing nicely enough, with more than a few gems. As for older stuff, I still pop in the occasional FamiCom title and hooked up my Sega CD a little while back (had to remind myself that I did indeed enjoy my time with Vay and - gasp! - Sewer Shark), but I'd love to actively go hunting for more portable-ish things.

I mainly collect Sega Genesis/CD/32X games (Trying to finish-up those libraries one day). Besides those, the Saturn and Dreamcast libraries seem small enough to want to finish-up one day also. And beyond those, virtually any console I own or will ever own. But besides my main Sega craze, I only collect shmups, RPGs, action Platformers and the like.
I stop at sports, shovelware, party games and pretty much anything that plays solely on gadgetry (i.e.-motion controls). I am however, a stickler for mint CIB, though (especially when it comes to Sega consoles). The only consoles I've decided to collect for strictly loose are the Atari and Nintendo Cart-based systems (with handhelds like the GB and GG still undecided).
I used to collect Star Wars toys from the 90s, but I gave that up eons ago. Toys of any sort really fail to do it for me. I guess I've tried to collect virtually anything as I was growing up (from stamps and comic books to action figures and knives), but I also gave all of those up. I think the only other item I actually collect besides select video games are hard cover 1st print/1st editions of books I admire (mainly victorian or contemporary Fantasy/Sci-Fi). But that became expensive real fast. So, though not altogether "thrown" aside, it must be "gently" put aside for the time being.
P.S.> My biggest pet-peeve are "Plushy" collectors. I'm talking about fully grown, male gamers who extend their enthusiasm to anything and everything from Beanie Baby Marios to life-size Sonic plushies. I really don't get it. It's not that I've grown over that phase, it's that I never saw plushies and teddie bears as items that could hold-up as "collectible." Those things get nasty, fast! yuck.:puke:

Odd as it may seem, I'm interested in collecting licensed games because I actually like to play them, unlike most gamers. One of my favorites is the NES version of Spy vs. Spy, one of the best two-player games ever made. My friend and I used to spend hours blowing each other up and we thought it was the funniest thing in the world. Another good one is Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I don't know about anyone else, but I stayed up all night playing that game when I first got it. And, of course, the Capcom Disney games are awesome.

Anything and everything Starfox. I have pins, posters, clothing, official collectors merchandise (such as the promotional Starfox Adventures Fox McCloud bobblehead complete with certificate of authenticity, postcards, Johny Lightning SF64 car, etc.), and have even gone as far as to interview a lot of the voice actors. Oh, own every game of course in multiple forms/regions (SF64, Lylat Wars, etc.).
Next to that, kaiju films. Nearly complete with Godzilla, moving on to Gamera. I own some rarities such as Frankenstein Vs Baragon, and others whose names I cannot remember at this time.
I'll also add Resident Evil and Silent Hill to my list of things I collect, but only game/movie wise. Use to collect RE toys, but lost interest after the expensive line of RE3 figures (which were my favorites btw) became harder and harder to find.

My collecting habits have changed a bit over the years since I last posted. I used to go searching for games in thrift stores and flea markets, then I'd look for games and handheld electronic toys from the '70s and '80s (like Mattel's Electronic Football, Simon, that kind of thing). Now when I go out hunting I pretty much never find games I'm interested in, so I find myself looking mostly for old electronic toys, interesting and old board games, and generally any toys from my childhood that would look cool on a shelf. For example, I've picked up three or four lunchboxes over the years, just because I liked them. I've bought a couple VR helmets, just because they look good on a shelf sitting on a styrofoam head.
A lot of the time, though, my flea market and thrift store trips are mostly just a reason to get out of my neighborhood and go someplace new and explore a little bit. And trying out different local restaurants when I'm there.

Can't believe I've never posted in this topic before.
Anyway, I collect RPGs for any and all systems (620 and counting wooo!). My second loves are survival horror games and CIB NES. I just think that they're sexy as hell.

I collect any system I can find, I have a bunch so there isn't much left to collect. Im not picky if cartridges are complete or not. Sony, Nintendo, Sega etc.
I also started collecting WWF LJN wrestlers from the 80s just late last year. I picked a slew of them this year at a 80stoys expo just recently. I also like to collect toys from the 80s although they are rare that I find them reasonably priced. I'm also a fan of Garfield as I like to pick up different memoribilia which usually is a plush.
