Nope.

I didn't get a Nes until Christmas of 1991 matter of fact. At the time, I was a 7th grader by the time I got a Nes.

Back in the 1980's, The only video game system I remembered playing back in the late 1980's for the most part was the Atari 2600 Jr. I got an Atari 7800 for Christmas in 1989. My Dad and I went to a store in early 1988 to buy a video game system.

I decided on a Atari 2600 Jr. at the time with Real Sports Football. The system and the games were cheaper than the Nes was at the time. The Sms and the XEGS were out of the question in price also.

I was between the 7800 and the 2600 Jr. before picking the Atari 2600 Jr.

My younger brother and I had a blast playing Atari 2600 games like Jr. Pac-man, Asteroids, Real Sports Football for an example.

I got an NES when I was 5 in 1990, so I missed the 80s.

I was born in 1990, but honestly I have no idea when my brother got his NES. It's funny, though, because I played an SNES before I played a regular NES. I was so young when I first saw that NES. I was confused as hell at why the graphics weren't as nice as the SNES graphics.

Interesting. No, I didn't have one in the 1980s, but I didn't know that until just now.

I remember opening one Christmas morning, it came with SMB1 and SMB3.

SMB3 wasn't released until 1990, so I wouldn't have gotten one until Christmas of 1990.

My father got one for us when I was 5, so '88-'89, can't remember exactly. First game I beat was Super Mario 3, I couldn't figure out the last level of Mario 1. I was so excited that I ran out of the house to tell a kid who was 3x my age that played Punch-Out which was like Halo at the time I guess....haha.

Oh yeah, my mom bought the family an NES for Christmas '86 (I was six) and I've had the system hooked up to a tv in some fashion ever since.

I think I got mine in 1987, when it was just called the "Control Deck" and it just came with Super Mario Brothers. The Deluxe Set, on the other hand came with ROB, the Zapper, Duck Hunt and Gyromite.

I had a good amount of games in a short time as everytime I got a Gift it was a NES game..My Grandmother used to spoil me ..everytime she came around she took me out to the store and got me a NES game..

The last I remember I went with her to Toys R Us and I had a choice ..Either RC Pro Am or Xenophobe
..Boy was I disappointed..A purchase in life I will Never forget.:frustrated:

My uncle actually bought me RC Pro am because he wanted to play it on my NES.:bigmac:

Yes, I got the set with Mario/Duck Hunt and the Zapper for my ninth birthday in 1988. My Dad then promptly brought me a 14" TV as he didn't want me using the living room telly all the time.

Got the NES Action Set from my parents (Christmas of 1988). So, count me in the crowd that had it in the 80s. In fact, I still have the original system, box, and most of the paperwork (no plastic, though).

During the 80's I played the Atari 2600, from there I got a SMS. I didn't get an NES until later. Maybe 1990 at the earliest.

I didn't own one until after SMB3 came out, so that means x-mas 1990.

I did, however, play SMB + Legend of Zelda at a friends house around '87-88. But most of my late 80's gaming was done on an Apple //c.

got mine used in the summer of 1990.

However, did get an SMS in 1988 and could only trade games with 1 kid at school. Surprisingly enough, the Montgomery Ward i bought it at didnt have any NES's on hand at the time so i went with the SMS ...

On a related topic, a local Zellers of mine was found today to have a "World of Nintendo" cabinet still used for Nintendo products. Makes me feel like I did live in the 80s. LOL.

I feel so young on these boards. So many people playing games before I existed.

Played it in Service Merchandise in either 85 or 86 and received it as a gift that Christmas. I'm pretty sure it was 85. I was 5, it changed my life.

You young bastards! Lol, j/k I'm jealous of your ages. :)

Got my NES January 8, 1987 and have the reciept to prove it. However, I first played it in December, 1985 in the Christmas (not "Holiday section", 1985 was before the PC BS) section at Macy's. Ahh, I guess it pays to live in NYC (where it was test marketed before going national).

Born in '88 and didn't actually own a NES until 2005 or so. I played it plenty at friends' houses, but by the time I was old enough to really enjoy video games Super Nintendo was the hot thing so that's what I got, and my best friend, whose NES I usually played, got a Genesis. So I got to experience both worlds without actually owning the consoles until much later in life.

No. Born in '76 and my parents refused to buy me one as I had an Atari 5200 that I "never played". I did play games on the NES at a friend's house however.

No, I skipped over NES and picked up a TG-16 w/ CDROM attachment and a HUGE stack of games (HuCards and CD) through a trade with a friend in the early 90's. I gave him two long boxes of comics.

I wouldn't own my first NES until 1996, when I purchased a returned, but brand new toploader from a local Electronics Boutique for a whopping $.99!

Um. Basically everyone who had the Atari 5200 never played it. Did your parents miss its lack of good support, lack of major competitive advertising and massive issues with being inferior? LOL.

That would be like one's parents not buying them a PlayStation because they dont play their Philips CDI LOL.

I shared it with my older brother. I just watched him play it when I was like five. I got into playing video games, so I could be as cool as my brother. Interesting enough he doesn't play games anymore. I still have the NES in great condition.

I'd say if you were at least.... 6 before 89 then odds are yes you had one. Right? I mean you are here at DP for one reason or another. Nintendo being the giant that it was in the late 80's early 90's might have something to do with that. Also being way immature. Yep. My grandparents moved to my hometown (from out of state) after they retired in 1985, and one of the first things my grandfather did was buy the whole NES R.O.B. set so I could have an excuse to come over more often.

He's gone now, and I still think of that every time someone mentions the NES. I can list his game library from memory: Baseball, 10-Yard Fight, Excitebike, Golf, Pinball, Balloon Fight, Metroid, Gumshoe, Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, and Gyromite and Stack-Up for the R.O.B.

He eventually added Jackal, which was the only third-party game he ever bought (and he would've been about 70 at the time).

Probably the last good true 8-bit year before we all knew what 16-bit was. 1989 was great for the NES, don't get me wrong, but news about the 16-bitters was everywhere.

I was born in 1990, so no. I remember playing it for the first time in 93 at a friends house, she still lives next to me and owns the console btw (we even go to the same school). NES was THE console I always wanted to have, and before I got my 1st console, which was either a GBC or a PS in 98 (my family is poor), I remember getting about 20 of those things which never either worked or never showed up properly with our old TV. That's why I had to pass a CIB NES in 97 which I could have gotten for 20mk, which is about 3 eur, because mom couldn't get the TV to show properly. I got the NES I have now last summer I think, just because I desperately just wanted to get the damn thing. Should buy a CIB set one of these days though.

This is fuzzy for me. I'm pretty sure I got mine Christmas of 1989. I had been playing it feverishly at a friend's house before that, though, and had beaten Super Mario Bros. and some other games. It's fuzzy because I want to say I got it Christmas of 1988 but I also remember getting Dragon Warrior with it, and that wasn't released until 1989. I'm off either on the year I got the thing or the year I got Dragon Warrior. But it was definitely still in the 80s. It was an Action Set and it wasn't strictly mine, it was for me and my brothers. We were very poor at the time so it must have been a significant expense for my parents, but they knew we really wanted one.

You know, I was sure I did, but trying to think about it I'm not so sure any more. We were one of the last of my friends to get one. My second game I ever got (The Legend of Zelda) was on my birthday in 92 so it more than likely was the early 90's.

I was born in 88 AND I had an NES in the 80s; I think it may have technically been my dad's, but I hogged it all the time all the way until the release of the SNES. I could quote the game genie code for SMB1's infinite lives (SXIOPO) before I even knew that letters made words. It was really scary when I entered it from memory 15 years later without remembering, until the instant the Game Genie screen flashed up, that I had ever known the code.

I'm almost certain that I played Mario before I could even talk.

I can actually remember when I got my nes thanks to Super Mario 2. My Neighbor Got Mario 2 the day it came out, and after watching him play it I begged and begged for a Nintendo. I got one that Christmas! So, the game came out Oct 1988, and I got an NES a couple months later for Christmas.

December 25th 1988!!!

My parents bought me mine in 1988. They gave it to me on a Friday, which meant all I had to play for a whole week was Mario and Duck Hunt. I wasn't expecting anything the next Friday, but I came home to Legend Of Zelda and Wizards and Warriors on my bed. I was amazed at how huge Zelda was. That music will always be burned in my memory. Wizards and Warriors? Ehh, not as much. Still like it though.

I can't remember the exact year, but I know it was in the 80's. I remember buying one with Super Mario Bros. It wasn't much later my cousin got one with the zapper and Duck Hunt. I was pretty freakin' pissed that we didn't wait a little while longer to get one. I still remember Mom coming home with Metroid, Zelda, Rad Racer, Super Pitfall, and Kid Icarus (throughout the course of our 1st year having it).

My older brother bought one in '86. He took it back a month later because he needed the money. We borrowed my brother's friend's NES for a few months after that, until I bought on in '87 myself (I think I was 11). What a fantastic system is was. Getting a new game felt like xmas every time :D

Yes, I believe we got ours Christmas of 1988. I say that because I recall watching the mario show religiously, but that was after we got the NES (and that show aired in 1989 if I'm remembering right).

Prior to that we were strictly Atari. We had a 2600, and when that broke, we got a 7800 in I believe 1987? Ended up snagging an NES after my parents saw my uncle playing Super Mario Bros and a couple other games. Quite the jump!

I'm pretty sure it was the late 1980's. My dad bought it for my brother and I one Christmas. It was the one with SMB/DH and the Zapper. Seems like eveyone here got it in either 1987 or 1988, so it must have been then. I still remember my 1st encounter with Mario Brothers and how difficult I found it to get past scrolling platforms in level 1-2.
