Which is your favorite. Mine is Psygnosis (or Psyclapse). They just made some absolutely beautiful games. Everything about them was just quality. Mind you there are so many game companies I love, but for some reason this one just made such a huge impact on me. Everyone knows "Shadow of the Beast", but what about "Agony" or "Obliterator"...or even "Menace". Great games that I will always remember.

It's an honest tie between Nintendo and Square. I grew up with the both of them, and the SNES is the reason why I still play games today =P

Sega or Konami, followed by Nintendo and Capcom.

Konami...they made the games that sold our consoles. Ah, they did lose points for a while after they changed logos...but things are cool again.

Capcom...they've got to prove themselves again, to me and everybody else. Oh, and Megaman should be "retired." Heh.

Remember the second Airport movie, with William Shatner (if memory serves right)? There was a poster on the walls of the terminal reading something like "Rocky XXIV" and a wizened, scrawny old Rocky standing in the middle with his gloves up. Yeah, that's about how I feel about Megaman right now. Who says video game characters don't age?

SEGA, the company who doesn't know how to make bad games.

*hits Zektor over the head with a spade shovel*

That's for asking such a difficult question. Hmm... now let's see here. Hudson Soft comes to mind. They are the masters of party games. They developed the Bomberman series as well as the Mario Party series. They've also got Bonk, Cutie Honey, and other gaming icons under their belt. Konami and Capcom are my other favorites. EA is good too, for sports I suppose.

Lots to choose from...Konami (especially in the 16-bit era for me), Capcom, Sega, etc. But I have to go with Nintendo for all the great series they've given us...Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox...tons of great games.

It's a toss-up between Sachen and Color Dreams/Wisdom Tree. Both of them consistently created some of the strangest/most unlikely games I've seen.

Are you sure these companies made the games? I was under the impression they just localized them.

For me it's gotta be Sega, SNK, Capcom, Cave, and Atari Games (the arcade side.)

Road Trip and Seek and Destroy were developed in Japan by Takara, and localized for the U.S. by Conspiracy.

Mr. Mosquito and Mad Maestro were developed by... Sony Japan, I wanna say, and localized by Eidos' short-lived Fresh Games division.

Anyhow, consolewise....ummm.....probably SEGA.

I'm also going to add Working Designs to the list. I don't know why, but I love re-releases, and they do them with class. And with extra stuff. And a hefty price tag. Hey, it makes it more collectable.... right? :/

I don't know why, but most of my favorite companies were at their best (IMO) during the C64 era...anymore, I barely know or care which company made the game I just bought

Electronic Arts
Access
Accolade (Accolade Comics, you must try this game)
Sega
Nintendo
and I'm going to throw two in here whose games were never that great, but I always bought them when I saw their names on the packaging, just because they were usually fun...Mastertronic and Sharedata.

I've got to go with Activision based on how much I love their 2600 stuff & that they're still pumping out decent games today.

I'm also fond of Tecmo stuff for NES to present. They're a close #2.

"My favourite company of all time" also answers the question "which company's games will you automatically consider purchasing, based on the fact that they made it"

It's an easy answer: Nintendo. Nobody makes better games - even after almost 20 years of me owning their machines.

I have thought longer and harder about this than I probably should have, and my answer is Square. (Or "was Square," since they're now Square Enix.) Ever since I figured out that the Squaresoft that made Final Fantasy II also made Secret of Mana, I've been a huge fan. Sure, they'll throw out a Saga Frontier or CyberOrg every now and then, but so many of their games are gorgeous, immersive marvels that interest me as few forms of entertainment can. Yep, I'm a Square bitch. No way around it.

Oh yeah, for runners-up, I'll take Treasure, Konami, Sega, Namco, and Compile.

Konami is first for me, with Capcom right behind.

Why Konami?

Not so much because of the long standing series (Contra, Gradius, TMNT, etc.) that they have, which is still very cool, but because it seems as if they've almost always been consistent throughout the years. Even when they've tried new things, they've still 9 times out of 10 produced a game that you can count on. And they've produced some of my favorite games of all time. That's what does it for me. Same goes for Capcom, but not quite to the extent of Konami.

1. Nintendo ("simply the best, better than all the rest")

2. Konami (some of my favorite franchises, and as mentioned before, they are very consistant)

3. Sega (can always be counted on for some good arcade style action games, and their quirky games are usually pretty good, like Super Monkey Ball)

4. Capcom (I'm more a fan of their older stuff, but when they aren't cranking out Super-Ultra-Hyper-Turbo-Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition 2004 vs. SNK ( LOL ) they still make some good action games. No offense to hardcore 2D fighting fans.)

I would have to say Working Designs because they make great games, and they truly appreciate you buying their games--they state over and over in their games that "we are nothing without you" meaning us gamers. They thank you over and over for buying their games, and ask for feedback so they can continue to produce quality games people want. I like it when a company realizes, and truly appreciates when you spend your hard earned money on their product. :hail:

I'd have to say Atlus. I can't entirely distinguish between what they developed and what they published, but I've enjoyed everything that had their name on the package; Ogre Battle series, Persona series, Disgaea, etc. Plus, they're the ones publishing River City Ransom EX. Gotta give 'em some love there.

This question is always really hard for me, so I think I''ll just name the companies that I think are particularly outstanding:

Nintendo: Not only did this developer make my favorite system of all time, it also was able to churn out a rediculous number of great games.

Capcom: I HAVE to give this company acknowledgment for being able to make so many great Disney games. They also produced Bionic Commando, one of my favorite games.

SNK: This company gets on my list for having so many great shooters and fighting games.

Taito: For producing some of the more obscure classics.

When I was a wee-one it was all about Nintendo, Sega was dirty and evil and probably molested children. But as time went on, I realized that Sega was probably the savior. Though they have their occasional mistakes, they consistently turn out gold...However, they are not my favorite company, though they rank high.

Cave, Atlus, Working Designs and SNK are probably my favorite. Breaking it down, Cave and Atlus tie for first, SNK second, and Working Designs third. Square has been dead to me for a couple of years now.

I could list the many, many games by Atlus as to why I enjoy their games...but I think most people know (or SHOULD KNOW!!). Cave - just for their wonderful, wonderful shmups.

sega : same as above

Imagic - Not only did they make some of the best Atari VCS games, not only did they make some incredible and original Intellivision games, but they released 2 of them of the Odyssey 2 as well. Also some Colecovision and Commodore VIC 20 games/translations.

Nintendo - I think everyone here knows their record pretty well

Epyx - An early to late -80s publisher of computer (and some Colecovision) games, including the Apshai series, Crush Crumble and Chomp, and many more.

SSI - Strategic Simulations Inc, whose catalog of strategy and adventure games was unmatched in the 80s

Infocom - they took the text adventure to new heights in the days before graphics caught up to designer imagination, and also were the first to publish games in really innovative packaging

Honorable mention : Cosmi, Penguin Software, Origin, Muse Software, Activision, and early Electronic Arts

I think about this all the time.

I am confident it is Nintendo. They have a presence. And a kick-ass slew of popular characters. Sure, they do stupid "What the hell?" things once in a while, but dammit, they rock.

They've been around the longest and are like the Apple of the game world. They innovate. And their hardware just looks cool.

If I had to sell off a chunk of my games and consoles, I would keep all my Nintendo followed by my DOOM collection. But no way would I get rid of my Nintendo stuff.
