NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. It's FREE, and YOU are invited to attend.

Previously at NAVA...

- Long-time Digital Press member and mentor Sean Kelly visited from the Chicago area.
- Sega Master System and ColecoVision shared the center stage "gaming island".
- Many games and systems traded hands between attendees.
- Pictures and video tell it best:

http://www.digitpress.com/images/store/

This is another event featuring gamers traveling from afar to join the core NAVA gang. This time, a band of Canadian gamers will take the long journey to test their skills against the north atlantic crew. Among those in this group are Sarah "Lady Jaye" Szefer and Sylvain "Sly DC" de Chantal. Sarah is one of Digital Press' forum moderators and Sly has been a content contributor for many years, including work in the DP Collector's Guide and on the ColecoVision game we produced for our 10 year anniversary in 2001 (Ms. Space Fury). Please join us as we welcome them into our little gaming circle.

The 6pm tournament will be the "Canadian Stakes" and the game will be chosen by our guests and announced at NAVA. Be prepared for anything!

Get ready for an international version of NAVA, in less than two weeks.

When: Saturday, May 30th, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

Seems to me this just HAS to happen. I don't think we've done one since Tim took the crown.

Ah, but I took the crown at the August 2008 event. So it's only been a 9-month reign. \\^_^/

It looks like we might be shooting for a more classic theme with this NAVA but I was wondering if anyone would be intrested in me bringing my Japanese PS2 with Konami's Pop'n Music games [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop'n_Music] and my arcade replica controller for it. I don't think a lot of people at NAVA has ever played or heard of Pop'n Music and I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to get a formal introduction to it to see if they like it. Could be a good game for a future tournament!

Also I wanted to make everyone aware that I am looking for and willing to purchase the following games and consoles...

A top loader NES [or a toaster NES with good, preferably new, contacts I am willing to accept either at this point]
Outrun 2: Coast 2 Coast [Xbox 1]
Pyschonaughts [Xbox 1]
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones [Xbox 1]
Freedom Fighters [Xbox 1]
Star Wars: Battlefront II [Xbox 1]

Extra Note: Frankie, I am going to sending you a PM soon with th DS and PSP games I have so we can play game together at NAVA. I am also going to be posting the Game Boy Camera pictures from last NAVA sometime soon.

I will be bringing many boxes of stuff for trade/sale. Highlights include a box of NGPC games, an Intellivision console, Atari XEGS console, cheap third party controllers for $1 each!, and possibly an Ace Combat 5 flightstick bundle (if I can get it working). I'll have my usual box of stuff that no one wants and free stuff.

I am looking to trade for (and maybe buy) Neo-Geo controllers and arcade boards.

NoahsMyBro

Weird trade request -

Last summer I was given an old PS2. The PS2 is the original, thick model.

The original owner had bought a new, slim PS2, and gave me the slim box. I'd prefer the original box, to match the original PS2.

Is anyone interested in trading a slim PS2 box for a fat PS2 box?

I missed the last several NAVA meetings due to work.

I'm just wondering if I can bring my fighting stick in case you people have casual fighting before or after the tournament.

Since Rob2k won't be there to see the festivities- he moved to PA, best of luck to him- I'll be around in case people want to play some fighting games.

I'll be bringing my spindle of games in case people are interested.

Otherwise, i'll also bring some food as well.

Hope to see you all there...

Hey gang,

Well, a rather nasty homeowner-type crisis surfaced over the Memorial Day weekend that will require my dealing with it over the NEXT weekend. Yup, I'm not going to be able to make this coming NAVA. Plus, after I'm done dealing with this, I won't be able to AFFORD going out to the coming NAVA.

I shall try to make it out in June. Sorry to miss everyone as I've been prepping for this trip for nearly a month now.

Dammit. :grumble:

I'm BUMMED that Sniderman can't make it but I totally *get* the household unexpected issues thing. Hopefully he can "headline" in June.

@Noahsmybro: Remind me that I have a CD full of music you requested sitting under the register counter. It will sit there forever unless you remind me, in fact.

@Canada peeps: Bring interesting things to trade! We will do likewise. I plan on bringing a few goodies that have never been offered at the store or at NAVA meetings before. LET US EXCHANGE GOODS.

Hi Folks!!

As of Wednesday May 27th, i confirm that i'm coming to the NAVA. Geez...This will be my
second NAVA meeting i'll attend, the first one was in February 1999!! (talk about 10 years
anniversary...LOL!!!!). Lady Jaye, Phenix and Lady Jaye's boyfriend will be joining us saturday
at the NAVA, while i and Eric Hamel (and maybe another person) will be there between noon
and 2pm. Can't wait to see all of you guys & gals!! :)

@Phenix: Don't try to bring to much trade stuff or the custom border will tell you to go
back and leave all your stuff home. That's what happened in 2003 while i was going to
the Phillyclassic 4. Now i can't bring anything to sell or trade in the USA since then (same
as all the person who were with me that time).

About the crown thing, hopefully it's not a Burger King crown...:P

See you all in 3 days!!! :)

Lady Jaye
05-27-2009, 10:06 AM
I don't have much to trade for, although I do have for trade or sale a Belkin Nostromo Speedpad n52 keypad controller for Mac/PC, loose but complete (ie. includes the driver CD and owner's manual). It's compatible with Mac OSX, Windows XP and Windows Vista (for Vista, an updated driver must be downloaded via Belkin's website -- see the support page link on the product's site).

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41JRDZSJTPL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

Product website: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=164714

I'm only looking for a couple of things:

1. A Colecovision connector cable to connect the console to a RF switch.
2. A used game-only copy (ie. not the instrument bundles) of Rock Band 2 for Xbox 360 (Joe?)

Joe, we'll probably drop by at the store Friday around noon/early afternoon before we head to the hotel and then go to NYC for the afternoon.

Ca serait quoi dans ce cas la limite que je pourrais apporter selon toi ? J'avais préparé 2 boîtes, c'est trop ? Et à mon retour, est-ce que je vais avoir pas mal de problèmes si j'achète plein de stock ?

This translates to (in case anyone is wondering):
That would be what in this case the limit that I could make you think? I had 2 boxes, too? And on my return, is what I'm having a lot of problems if I buy lots of stock?

Well, anyone who was sufficiently interested could plug that into Babelfish (or whatever else you used). If you're not going to translate it literally, why bother? (If it actually matters to anyone else besides SlyDC.)

A better translation would be...

"In this case, what do you think the limit would be that I could bring? I've prepared two boxes, is that too much? And on my return, am I going to have problems if I buy lots of stock?"

I believe you've met Eric Hamel before (who's coming with Sly) but definitely not the other Eric (who's coming with Phénix and I; he's the one who helped Jeff with the cover for the last issue of DP).

Ok, and supposing I want to bring a MSX too? And supposing I want to plug some weird stuff to Joe's ColecoVision expansion port, is that ok?

You can get an idea of what the store (and a typical NAVA) looks like here...
http://www.digitpress.com/store/

There are multiple televisions and monitors with various consoles hooked up at any given time. Exactly which ones is different from month to month. Last month ColecoVision and Master System were hooked up to the two big screens. I'm not sure what the plan is this time, but you should be able to hook up anything you want as long as there's room. You can bring your own consoles if you wish, but you definitely don't need a TV...there are plenty of TVs and Commodore monitors available for use at the store. If you're unsure about anything, send Joe (digitalpress) a PM and I'm sure you can work something out.

I might bring my Sega Mark III this month, along with some Japanese Master System and SG-1000 software. This would complement the ColecoVision/MSX stuff quite nicely.

NoahsMyBro
05-28-2009, 12:42 PM
I've brought a console before, and it's usually OK to bring and hook up, >>> BUT <<< be aware that the available displays don't have RF inputs.

A couple of months ago I brought my modded 5200 and hooked it up via composite, but if I'd required RF I'd have been SOL.

Thank's for letting me know about RF. My MSX will be ok, it has S-video, but my CV isn't going to work. So probably I will need to use Joe's CV, unless he doesn't like the idea of having weird stuff plugged to his CV's expansion port.

Edward! I really hope you can make it. If you do decide to bring an RF-based system you'll have to bring a television to use it on too. I have a tiny 13" that we use for testing systems in the basement but it's not exactly play-worthy. I've got an AV-modded ColecoVision in the store already.

Looking forward to meeting you. Bring your games to sell or trade if you've got any left - I think the only ones I have are the first 2 or 3, I'll have to check.

i will probably be bringing an assortment of DVD (TV and Movie), Variant SNES boxes and some other small things. I'm mostly looking to sell, but I could be open to trading.

Ok, I will try to have a copy of each game, including a limited edition Pac-Man Collection (yellow case). About the TV, I can bring a LCD TV I have here. It takes little space.
Thanks Joe. Looking forward to meeting you. :)

I will be there. This will be my second NAVA (First was the Nerd/Critic "fight")

Will be bringing Sonic Mega Collection for the PS2 along with some lower end PS2 titles (that I'm willing to trade for lower end SNES titles as I'm going for the whole SNES library) May also bring my N64 gameshark to trade.
