and before anyone mentions it they are not compatible with game genie codes

Lolz! LOL

It may use Pro Action Replay codes, but it may help to see some screen shots. GG codes were more complicated because they made it nearly imposible to know exactly what address was being modified with what value because they kind of did a substitution cipher on them (I could be wrong, but I *think* PAR codes were more straightforward). Are there any code examples at all for any games for this unit?

Magicard was developed / produced by Gamtec in Taiwan, the same company that developed the original version of Legend of Wukong (http://www.legendofwukong.com/). Unfortunately, they aren't a very talkative company, having little to no interest in discussing their past products in detail - it's business or nothing, with them. Thus, anything you find out about the Magicard will likely have to be from personal research either with the original device, or through taking a look at its program ROM contents (which have been dumped and available for a long time). I never found any useful info about it, meaning it likely didn't have a great success on the market.

Best of luck - sorry I can't be of better help.

I uploaded some pictures from that site here. I dunno why they wouldn't work via direct link...

It's weird that the link works via archive.org, but I see someone already posted the pic.

Being that there's 16 letters, I have to assume that they represent the numbers 0 through F in hexadecimal. Finding out which is which is another story. If you can figure that out, it a "simple" matter of substitution to make PAR or GG codes work, I would imagine.

Also, that code does look fake when you look at how close those letters are together in the letter selection section at the bottom.

Pretty sure he's ogling Spidey's plastic pectorals and Spidey looks about to hurdle that cartridge.

Interesting choice of game for that advertisement...looks like Thunder Force III to me.

Game Genie uses 8 digit codes with A-Z (minus I, O, Q, U), 0-9
PAR uses 10 digit codes with regular hex 0-9, A-F

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the letters at the bottom are in hex order: A=0, Z=F. It could be either horizontal or vertical order.

Sonic 1 US PAR code for "Start the game with 99 Lives" 00334 A0063

Here's a test batch of the converted code to try out, one at a time:
AAFFGRAAIF
IFAAFFGRAA
AAPPDHAAFP
FPAAPPDHAA

Is there more to the GUI beyond the two screens above? Does it give a Code Error message when entering random codes? (which would suggest they contain a checksum)
