This is an awesome thread, I'm glad you bumped it.

From what the guy said, the cartridges plug into the controller to enable pre-programmed special move macros when you press the extra buttons.

the controller is called...
it is worth approximately...

Thank you.

I've only got some first-party gamecube controllers and an N64 controller. I do have one homemade oddity though. It's an adapter that maps all the buttons from an N64 controller so it can be used on a Wii or Gamecube. It plays N64 virtual console games with the original buttons - I even beat Majora's Mask off the VC with it.

http://i44.tinypic.com/np3m79.jpg

I had buy buy 3 things: an N64 controller extension cable, a Gamecube controller extension cable, and the chip that actually converts the signals. After a lot of soldering and wirecutting, the finished product works like a charm.

Great controllers! I'm bringing up this thread to hopefully see more of your collections.

I'm just wondering what you prefer more: The original SNES controller or the PAL colored button SNES controller?

That's easy. PAL/SFC. It isn't even just for the colors (though the colors do look better - grey, lavender, and purple is a horrid combination); having all face buttons convex is somewhat easier on the thumbs (and the idea that having two buttons concave makes them easier to locate by touch is completely bogus - even slight familiarity/practice with the SNES controller totally negates this).

As for my own controller collection, I will be putting up a pic of everything I have at my present residence (as opposed to stuff that's sitting in boxes in my dad's garage in Cincinnati) as soon as my Fighting Commander 3 arrives. :)

I don't have any info on this controller. Bought it a few years back but don't remember where. My wild guess is maybe this was for NES systems put in hotels???

The Fighting Commander 3 finally came today; it took three weeks! I'm also missing a few that I left in boxes at my dad's house. They are, to wit, a couple more U.S. SNES controllers, an SNES asciiPad, a wired Xbox 360 controller, and a NubyTech SFII PS2 controller.

So not an amazing collection overall, but good enough for an SNES/fighting buff like me. :)

Yes, and vice-versa. In fact, the stock model 2 controllers in both markets were exactly the same (shell, electronics, model number, and all) aside from the buttons.

How about the European SNES controller?
Not sure. I thought so, but then I noticed a reputable UK shop was selling both PAL and NTSC versions of aftermarket controllers that otherwise looked identical (and the price was a couple pounds cheaper for the NTSC versions).

Those colored buttons look SO great, it is such a nice touch.Always loved the design of the Super Famicom, even though it's so simple (probably what makes it great in the end - this is why I prefer the SNES mini to the original, too). Anyway, thanks for the info!

P.S. Should anyone have a couple official Super Famicom controllers in good condition to spare, I just might be interested!

Thicker probably means more protection against pinching and inner wire breakage.

But in your situation, the thicker wires will take up more storage space.:-D

Nice collection.

I was wondering if anyone could identify this NES/Famicom controller. It doesn't have any company information on it, and I've never seen its type before. I was thinking that it might be a Famicom controller that somehow made it all the way to Texas. Someone want to hazard a guess?

I've come across a couple of those LodgeNet N64 controllers in the past, but never knew the significance of them until much later. I've even come across the TV sets the LodgeNet N64s plugged into. Still, never picked any of it up. Mainly because I personally believe the N64 to have one of the worst controllers ever devised, and the designers should have two or three shoved up where the sun don't shine as penance.
