Went to Salvation Army today and found a loose Konami Justifier for the Sega Genesis for $1.99. Unfortunately I don't have any of the 3 Genesis games it works with so I can't test it out yet. It's in really nice condition though, so it probably works.

I went garage saling for a few hours and found:

Twisted Metal 2 Black Label Complete- .50
Fox Golf Black Label- .50
Couple of PlayStation Demo Discs- Free
Atari Classics PlayStation Case- Free
Freaky Flyers Gamecube- 1.00

And I found a dollar bill on the ground later, so I technically spent only a buck the whole day.

Also, I almost bought Wargames: Defcon 1 for a buck but when I opened up the case the disc wasn't for WG, it was for something else. I looked in other game cases, but couldn't find it. Good thing I checked it before I bought it.

Had a decent day today at 3 Goodwills in Columbus.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2598/3845716017_740d6f4c5a.jpg

FF7, Parasite Eve (second one in about a week) and Caesar's Palace (boxed, looks complete) 2.99 each. FF7 looks like it was played once and put on a shelf. PE has a little wear, and CP has some box wear but the cart was still in a baggie, and the tray/manual/safety guide are in good shape.

Banjo Kazooie soundtrack and blue Sony PS1 controller 1.99 each

Even with a lack of gaming-related finds this week, I still feel some of it being worthy of a mention here anyway.

Non-gaming items:
- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (VHS. 1992 rerelease in very good shape): $2
- Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (DVD. Single-disc edition in near mint condition): $3
- Assorted Pokemon cards: $.25

The assorted Pokémon cards was easily my best find of the morning, because one of those cards was a promo Mewtwo (The one that came with VHS copies of the movie) I traded to a friend ages ago, so I once again have that card.

Over the past two days-

From Goodwill:
Apollo 13 (DivX)- $2
Hardball (Atari XE)- $4
NAM (PC)- $4

From Game store:
Taz-Mania (SNES)- $1
Rocky (SMS)- $2
Anticipation (NES)- $3
Mortal Kombat Movie- Free

My family was just about as happy as the one on the box when I mentioned I bought Anticipation. I guess even 20 years later, it's party fun for all ages. LOL

First time I've seen a DivX disc in the wild, as well as the first time I saw an XE game at Goodwill. No system, though.

Really excited about Mortal Kombat, should be funny.

When I woke up this morning, the power was out. Having no better idea, I drove all the way to the flea market to see if $1-game guy was there again. He was, but the "boxed Genesis stuff" he mentioned he'd bring next time was consoles, which he didn't even have out. Ended up finding a small postal scale for $2, which I've been wanting for my eBay stuff. Also found Risk for Genesis, cart only $2. During a hurricane-induced power outage years ago, we played a full game of Risk, and my younger sister had dragged it out this morning. Also got a Soul Calibur II PS2 fighting stick (Hori) for $20. It's kinda entry-level, but still a lot better than my crappy offbrand wireless one.

I spent a good hour hunting for LaserDiscs, since I still haven't found any to test my new player beyond CD audio functions. I asked around, and the best response I got was "what planet are you from?" Eventually, I found a little comic/toy/music shop, and noticed Atari carts mixed in with the 8-tracks. I asked them and they pointed to a stack on the floor. Now, I knew there was a format that played with a stylus, like vinyl, but I couldn't remember which one it was, or what LaserDisc names were used before they decided on LaserDisc. These were those RCA disks in plastic sleeves, and they had such great selections as Rainbow Brite and Jane Fonda's Workout. I haggled them down to $6 for three movies, so it's not a huge loss but not a bargain either, considering that I mixed up the format. And I was all pumped about watching Airplane, Apocalypse Now, and Quest for Fire.

Just bought this lot (http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-OF-5-LASERDISCS-STAR-WARS-RETURN-OF-THE-JEDI_W0QQitemZ190329506051QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_La serdisc?hash=item2c5085c903&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) on eBay, so I'm happy now. I'm mostly happy about finally having the proper cut of Star Wars in widescreen.

Tarzan (PS1, Complete) - $1
Atari Paddle Plug & Play - .50
Animaniacs (GB) .25

Small finds all from different sales. First two were IAP and Animaniacs was .50 but took .25, looks bad and the label is missing but figured I'd take a chance for a quarter since I don't have it.

Earthworm Jim
Mario's Early Years: Fun with Numbers
Super Mario All-Stars

$6

Asked about games at a house and they brought out these 3 and Frogger which I passed on. Started at $5 each then said how about $3 each and took my offer of $6 for these 3.

Playstation 2 With Hook-Ups, System Stand & 2 1st Party Controllers - $5

No price and when I asked the guy said to make an offer so I told him I'd give him $5 which he didn't hesitate to take. I'm guessing it doesn't work but if this is so I'm hoping I can easily fix it.

Genesis/Sega CD 2 With Hook-Ups, 3x Controllers (2 Generic, 1 1st Party), Universal Cleaning Kit (Missing 2 Parts) & Web Browser 2.0 (Dreamcast & Sealed)

Games & Empty Game Cases

Eternal Champions (Cart)
Haunting Starring Polterguy (Cased)
Lotus II (Cart)
Maximum Carnage (Cart)
NBA Jam (Cart)
NFL Football '94 (Cart)
Puggsy (Cased)
Samurai Shodown (Cart)
Sonic Spinball (Cart)
Super Monaco GP (Cased)
Streets of Rage 2 (Complete)

Contra Hard Corps (Case Only)
Last Battle (Case Only)

$10

Offered $5 but they were asking $20 but said they could do $10 which I took. Oddly enough this is the first time I've seen Streets of Rage 2 in the wild since you could still find it new but was happy that it was complete as I only had a cart only copy.

got this lot of 275 gameboy games from ebay. i got a lot of cleaning ahead of me.

Do you have a link to the auction? I'm just curious as I'm guessing they really did something wrong considering how much that went for vs how much the Pokemon games sell for individually on the bay.

Also I'm getting a kick out of the fact that they went hog wild most likely clearing out GameStop at 75-85% off and somehow managed to lose money in the deal cashing that all out at once.

they're gamestop returns. almost all of them had "return to warehouse" stickers on them. some of them are down right nasty. i bought some orange clean and electronic contact cleaner and have cleaned roughly 20 games so far. i've thrown out about 6 or 7 because they were beyond help.

You should give away those "beyond help" carts to modders or homebrew coders. Maybe they can use the PCB or chips inside.

Do what I do and find a use for those extra toothbrushes that your dentist gives you every time you're in.

The only way a cart is truly beyond help is when the actual rom chip is beyond help. Even then, I'm sure you know somebody artistic who can do something creative with them. One of my friends made a mural-thing which included a few exploded N64 Wrestlemania carts.

Those "cuts" have been out on DVD for a few years. Best part is you don't have to flip them every 1/2 hour.

60 minutes is the flip time for the average LaserDisc movie from that time.

I got burned when I bought the original DVD release of the trilogy on release day, so I could never justify paying full price for widescreen original cuts on DVD. Cheap LDs, I can handle.

Forgive me for derailing the finds thread, but what kind of output will I get from a "widescreen" LD? Is that going to be the 1.85:1 or whatever image horizontally compressed and properly viewed on an HDTV in 16:9 stretch, or will the player letterbox it? I ask because I'm seeing widescreen as well as letterbox releases, and some sellers making it a point to differentiate (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390083085157&ssPageName=ADME:B:BCA:US:1123).

Sonicwolf

Widescreen LaserDisc's are just like old VHS movies or DVD's encoded non-anamorphically. You have to zoom in on the picture on a widescreen HDTV.

Good stuff today!

-Star Ocean: Second Evolution (PSP, SEALED) $10 from the flea market.
-A Clockwork Orange (Blu-Ray, sealed) $15 from Best Buy.

I've been after these for a while, especially the Clockwork Orange Blu-Ray. I have not seen the movie yet, but it is on the top of my list.

I've been getting some good finds from a local Goodwill I started to revisit:

Donkey Kong Country - $2
Mega Man 5 - $1
Bank Tooie - $2
Snowboard Kids - $2
Goldeneye - $2 (to replace my copy that was destroyed in my apartment flood)
Alone in the Dark Strategy Guide (new version) - $1

I picked up Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, 4 more Square SNES RPGs and a couple other $15+ SNES games from that Goodwill earlier this month for $2 each as well. I think I ended up pricing it at $150 for the lot and only spent $18.

Friday and Saturday Finds:

http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/8537/63271213.jpg

From a few different Goodwills yesterday, got a brand new Radica home Golden Tee TV plug-in console for 5 bucks, and a Destroy All Humans bobblehead for $2.99. Then picked up an “s” and a duke controller for xbox - $1.99 each. Finally got 6 mint and complete xbox games for $1.99 each

http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/218/n64wlp.jpg

Then I found a rummage today that started strong and kept getting stronger. Saw an awesome toy warthog with 4 figures marked $3, then a Zelda Ocarina soundtrack for 50 cents, an NES Mega Man for $2 (the only NES game there), something called a “Gold Finger" for a buck (looks like a PSX cheat device), and an N64 console with 3 controllers and a boxed expansion pack for $15. Grabbed all of this up and moved onto some shelves…

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/1696/psxdemos.jpg

The shelves had a bunch of PC games, and a stack of PSX demos, all unmarked. I found Undergrounds 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, & 4.4 along with single game demos in cardboard sleeves, most of them still sealed. The FF VII and the pop-up Medievil are probably the best of the lot. Snagged these, and then saw a box marked “50 cents each” that looked to be filled with CDs in sleeves…

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6986/xboxdemos.jpg

It was indeed filled, filled with every Xbox sampler disc from 01 to 52, except 40. Oddly enough, disc 04 was the only duplicate, and there was also an Arcade disc, and something called “I Love Bees” with an xbox live logo on it. I picked up, and with arms full, did one last sweep of the garage before heading back out. I asked the lady with the cashbox if she would take $40 for everything I had, and she quickly said yes. I got the feeling that she was anxious to move this stuff out, and I was more than happy to help!

$4

$2 a piece said he'd do $5 for all 3 and I said I was think a buck each and asked the guy if he'd met me in the middle which he did. Boring find and I shouldn't have bothered but I at least wanted to get something today.

Passed on boxed Hyperscan stuff, $2 system & 2 games at a buck each. Some Fire Emblem cartoon new on VHS was a buck and the lady wouldn't do .50 or even meet me in the middle at .75. Last but not least I passed on a Sega CD 2 boxed that when I opened looked as if it was new and never used. $25 I offered $10 and they didn't want to budge.

The spring is only required if you don't want to open up the PSX. Just stick a piece of paper on the switch below where the spring would go. I personally use movie tickets, because they're usually thick and stay in place rather well.

I always wondered if you could do the same thing with a GameShark.

I Love Bees was the compilation disc given out at the end of the Halo 2 ARG (Alternate Reality Game). It's got all the audio that was used to give clues to the game, the call in stuff that people did among other things. It was only given out at a few events just before Halo 2 hit streets. I don't know what their worth is now, but after the game ended, those things sold for good money on ebay (Where I got mine along with one of the event lanyards).

I saw this place while waiting at the Circle K across the street for a craigslist deal. It had a big sign that said Buy / Sell / Trade, no name and lots of crap out front. I looked around and they just have stacks and stacks of complete junk outside, in the store, and in multiple trailers around the store that you have to dig through. Most of it was complete crap, there was a room filled to the roof with used matresses and broken bed frames, and a pile of old radios stacked to the ceiling. I found all the game stuff on piles various places in the store, and the lady who worked there quoted me $15 + a dollar for "tax." I plan on going back and digging some more for more game stuff another day.

And a bonus! DKC 2 had a dimebag taped inside of it! All the carts smell badly of weed.

Craigslist deal:
PS2 (DRE for CD games)
Gran Turismo 3 GH Missing manual

PC Games:
Postal 2
WoW
ATV Rally

All of that was $10.

Interesting items for today:

Mega Man 1, 2 ,3 and Super Mario Bros 3 - $4 each. A bit more than I'd like to pay but I know these games get a bit more than that.

Lufia 2 - $13. Good price, I'd like to trade it for the first Lufia.

Lethal Enforcers 1 & 2, X-Men Children of the Atom, Jackie Chan Stuntman and King of Fighters 95 - $15

Dragon Quest 4, Arc the Lad 2, Arc the Lad 3, Grandia, Ridge Racer Revolution and 2 games I don't know what the are - $15. Odd, I almost never see Japanese items, but this guy had these in quite good condition.

PS2 network adapter and 2 network adapter discs - $13. For ebay.

Thrift run today was abysmal. All I saw was Pitfall and Mercs for Genesis at Goodwill, $3.06 each, not really interested. Found some first print Isaac Asimov hardcovers at the library book store, as well as a few keyboard magazines with Depeche Mode interviews and stuff. $3.50 total.

While not exactly a "game" find, I did pick up what will be the center-piece of the audio portion of my set up in my new game room. It is an Onkyo TX-DS777 A/V Receiver. It is a slightly older model from 2000, but it has 4 sets of inputs, both A/V and S-Video, as well as 5.1 surround sound and all the other goodies that were near the top of the curve in 2000. It came complete with box, manual and remote for only $65. Now I just need the proper speakers and TV to go with it.

First find in a while for me was at Half Price Books:

Yourself Fitness (Xbox) $7.48

I've been wanting this one for the collection for awhile but haven't found it under $15 anywhere, and this one is in immaculate shape! I did a couple of stops elsewhere but came up completely empty...

That's a dobby sinny. Sodding zammechat, actually. Just don't be gloopy, and make sure you read the raskazz, too. Maybe visit your biblio and get the british version if possible, then you can take or ookadeet the extra chapter. Your choice.

Also, pan-handle <smirk>.

I just finished the movie, and it was quite horrorshow. :D
Now, all I've got to do is get the raskazz. My local biblio doesn't have it, so I'll have to go elsewhere.

Nice find on those Genny games.

Thanks! I just went and put them in my RFG database and noticed a couple of fairly rares in there, especially "Dino Land" which is an R6 (my rarest Gen game now) and Herzog Zwei, which is apparently in very high demand!

Do you just look up rarity as you go along entering games at RFG, or is there a rarity entry in their database I don't know about?!

A few things I found missed getting posted last week/weekend:
DS Lite w/ broken hinge and button, and games - $60 - just blowing the button out got it working. The games are Pok. Platinum, Pearl, Big Brain Academy, Mario Kart DS, Starfox DS, Konami Classics Arcade Hits, and then GBA games Pok. Mystery Dungeon, Emerald, FireRed, Super Mario World, and a Replay DS. Sold the DS already, so it isn't in the pic.

Playstaion 1 Manuals were at a sale that advertised games on CL. Got there at 10 when they said they opened, but they were already cleaned out of all GCN and PS1/2 stuff. Still had Xboxes and some good games, but I never really got into xbox. Anyway, they still had boxes and bags of cables/controllers, 10 cents each. I wound up with a few NES rfs, some Gen controllers and ac's, DC controller w/ 2 VMUs, DC a/v, etc. Also grabbed that HP calculator and 2 graphing calcs, and the grand total was 2.80 or something, so we just said 3. Oh, in that was also a Win98 disc w/ key for a buck. I love the operation and feel of that HP calc... I had one with the same button layout in school, but the keyboard gave out (and it was a graphing calc). This one's keypad is starting to have problems too, but maybe I can clean it if I can get it open.

Misc. stuff at other sales: Shivers - .25, SW JKII - $2, GBA Pong, etc - $1, BG (complete) $2

http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/finds184b.jpg
Anyone know anything about this? I picked it up because it looked interesting, but really it doesn't fit in my collection anywhere, so I don't know what to do with it.

Oh, and yesterday my DS Game & Watch Collection came! And today more DS love in the mail; I won an eBay auction for Syberia, Broken Sword, Vanishing Files, Puzzle Knight, all for $24 shipped.
