I'm thinking of a getting a Sega 32X adapter for super cheap, but then again, why should I?
Does it actually have any redeeming games?
Or would I be getting it, for just the sake of it?

In brief ... not really, I'm afraid! It has some OK titles. Like Star Wars Arcade. And Knuckles Chaotix is fun for a while - it's original at least, and it takes some getting used to. I'm told Kolibri is quite good, but I've never had a chance to play it. And Mortal Kombat on the 32X is pretty decent.
Of course, there is Darxide, which is reputed to be pretty damn good... but unless you have the patience of Job to wait for a copy to turn up, and then a few hundred dollars spare to buy it with then you're probably not going to get the pleasure!
Of course, if you have a Palmtop, you can just download the new updated version of Darxide from www.frontier.co.uk for $20. If I had one, I would ...
has anyone here tried it? There is a free downloadable demo on the site. I would love to hear people's impressions!

It has the best version of Virtua Racing. It's pop up city but quite fun. Doom and Virtua Fighter are good but there are better versions out there. I liked Knuckles Chaotix a lot if only for the cool bonus levels... Tmek is pretty good.

Yeah, MK II is pretty good, but the SNES version still wins overall. Spiderman isn't too shabby, but good luck finding a copy. Virtua Fighter is a really good port, but only if you don't own the Saturn. I LOVE Fred Couples Golf. Overall, not really worth it, but you'll most likely get some enjoyment out of it.

Didn't Zero Wing come out for the 32x?

Is it just me, or does "Darxide" sound like some sort of malevolent industrial cleanser?

Didn't Zero Wing come out for the 32x?
No, at least not in the US. I can't vouch for other countries. I still want to play Virtua Hamster though...

Didn't Zero Wing come out for the 32x?
Nope.
-Don't forget that Sega 32X has a perfect Space Harrier, which to me is worth the price of the unit.
-Knuckles Chaotix is original and has a nice atmosphere.
-Afterburner is fun for a few minutes every so often.
-NBA JAM: TE, nice.
-MKII, good.
-Star Wars Arcade, very difficult; so it will occupy a lot of time if you want to beat. (Make sure you play with a friend, otherwise its virtually impossible)
-Virtua Racing Deluxe is great.
-Doom is adequate.
-Motocross is strangely entertaining.
-Great version of Virtua Fighter.
-Fred Couples Golf is good.
-Tempo is original and fun.
-Shadow Squadron has some great graphics and is decent.
-World Series Baseball is good.
Just make sure you don't get BC Racers, Metal Head, T-Mek, Brutal, or Cosmic Carnage. Spiderman: Web of Fire, while rare; sucks. I also hated Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000, but I guess its better than some of 32X's games.
I remember hearing 32x Space Harrier wasn't QUITE perfect. At the very least the music would suffer.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the Saturn version WAS pretty much perfect. I have it but am not a SH arcade aficionado, so I can't say.
Btw, Motocross Championship is the consumate 50 cent 32x game. It's so not good. :)

I recently plowed through most of the 32X's non-sports and non-rare titles, and I came to the conclusion that only Chaotix, Space Harrier, Shadow Squadron, and Star Wars Arcade were worth keeping. I also hung on to Metalhead, but that's just because of my inner mech geek.

Where there any Sega CD games that would only work if you had both a 32X and a Sega CD?

Yeah, there are a few Sega CD/32X titles... and none of them are worth playing. At all. ;)

I also liked Star Trek-Starfleet Academy. Sure, the SNES one was pretty good too, but the 32x one looked prettier.

I had Night Trap. That didn't require that you had a 32X too.
I had Night Trap on just a regular Sega CD, without any 32X attatchment.

There's also a 32X version.
