View Full Version : NAVA Gamer's Meeting, October 24th: "The Frightening"

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. It's FREE, and YOU are invited to attend.

Previously at NAVA...

- A new Street Fighter IV house champion was crowned in an all-out tournament.
- A new ColecoVision game, "Ghostblasters", was debuted and available for play.
- There was a fireworks display that may or may not have been sponsored by Digital Press Videogames :)
- Many games and systems traded hands between attendees.
- Pictures and video tell it best:

Here we are again, ALMOST at Halloween. Since Halloween falls squarely on the last Saturday of the month (when NAVA usually occurs), we're bumping the event up a week so families can take their kids out for the day and/or attend whatever frightening booze-and-costume-fest they may have already lined up.

However, you should feel free to come in costume. In fact, we'd really like to encourage you to do so. Come in costume and you'll automatically get a $10 gift certificate. We'll also judge the best costume of the day for an additional $40. Real costumes, please. Showing up in a baseball cap claiming to be "a baseball player", or with 5 o'clock shadow claiming to be "a bum", or doing BOTH claiming to be Joe Santulli isn't going to be good enough.

Prepare for a day and night of gaming, trading, and scary costumes. It's NAVA time!

When: October 24th, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

We will be there, but briefly. We have a party in Freehold later that day.

WOO!

Sweeeeeeet, not on Halloween.

Maybe Lis and I will do "alternate" costumes for NAVA ... because I can't foresee walking around in that damned Cobra Commander helmet indoor all day long.

i didnt think people were allowed downstairs, unless it only a select few.

Damn it. I was hoping to have somewhere to go on the 31st so I wouldn't have to be on candy duty all day. It's not the little kids that bug me. It's the big jooches clearly in their 20s who go around looking for a few Kit Kat bars.

$10 just for coming in costume? That's the best deal I've ever heard of at a retail store.

I'll be coming as a middle-aged video game addicted drunken zine editor.

I should be coming to this. I don't expect any parties to pop up the week before Halloween.

Oh, and I'm looking for something! I'm looking for the GBC version of Dragon Quest 3, CIB preferably, but I'll take it loose if nothing else will do.

Edit: Oh, and a GBC to play it on, of course. Almost forgot about that.

Oh a week earlier than expected. I plan to be there unless I get stricken with some sort of swine outbreak or my job makes me come in on my planned day off.

Wasn't planning on doing a costume, not much time to plan. I haven't done a Halloween party since the 80's! yikes X_x

It's "invite only". I keep a lot of my personal things downstairs so only people I really know and trust are allowed down there.

C'mon sister, plenty of time to plan! Of course, it's not a requirement to participate, either. I'm 50/50 myself. I'm waiting on some kind of costume epiphany.

Could one show up in a full body flesh tone leotard and claim to be naked as a costume?

Why not just show up naked? We are all friends.

Darn! It would have been quite a trip to see 8 or 9 Joe Santulli's standing there.

Dunno yet, but certainly Halloween-themed. Maybe Halloween for 2600, Dracula for Intellivision, House of the Dead for whatever system... plenty to choose from but we'll "wing it". Looking for another spot on the tourney wall, eh? :)

10-18-2009, 10:47 AM
Unless Sniderman is coming, in which case you better pick TCM :)

I won't be there as it's the same date at CCAG here in Ohio. So Halloween would be a safe bet. BTW: I've tied the second place position WR for TCM, so that would've been a bad choice too. (Not gonna submit a score 'til I get #1 though. BUt I've been trying for 3 years...)

Due to moving stuff into my new place, chances are I won't be able to make it down for this month's NAVA.

If someone goes as 80s Gary Shandling then I may drop everything and head down.

So is everyone showing in a costume? I was trying to track down an Ulala Space Channel 5 outfit but no luck. And at this point with just 4 days left doesn't seem like a costume is going to happen at all.

Frankie_Says_Relax

We're coming in costume for sure.

I finished one half of Lis and my video game costume duo yesterday.

It might not win any contests, but it'll make for a good laugh.

I will be there.

I'm looking to get complete in box Atari 8-bit games, primarily Activision titles, but I'm up for anything if the price is right.

Does anyone need a Laserdisc player? It's untested, but it will be very cheap for any good NAVA member.

Well it seems some stuff for my costume that I need won't be at NAVA, I will still go in the clothing I will use for my costume, it depends if my friend comes with a leather jacket and such.

However, I will have a Servbot helmet on for all to enjoy, and this month I sadly will not have anything to sell, sorry :(

It'll be a little random, but I may make the drive down to the store today. Possibly dressed as the Bear Jew (Inglorious Basterds). Which means there may be two people wielding bats in the store...

I had a good time at NAVA yesterday. Greg and I played some arcade games, I talked to a Tetris piece (Frankie), Mike, and a zombie, I got to see Disaster: Day of Crisis for the Wii (is the entire game one long cut scene?), played Atari 2600 with someone awesome, experienced Joe's Capital One flashing island lights, and was surrounded by people wearing great Halloween costumes.

When I was looking for the store webcam during this particular Halloween night at NAVA, it was so dark that I didn't see much. I think I did see a person in a costume, maybe from halo, but I'm not sure.

Beside that, I did enjoy watching the pictures and videos... always fun to see what a gameboy cam can do. Thanks! ;-)

If there is more pictures and videos, please share them too... I want to see what I did miss this time.

Awesome, thanks! (It seems like the autofocus on Joe's camera was disabled.)

I'm not good at shooting in the dark and don't like the way they usually turn out with the flash either. So this spooky darkroom experiment we tried for Halloween doesn't translate well into photos. At least you got to see it live :)

I don't have an excuse for the outdoor photos being blurry though - someone must have messed with my camera settings!

I do have a brief video of Frankie & Lisette's outdoors Tetris display which I'll try to get online in the next few days.
