So, usually, SNK's games get tossed into the bargain bin very quickly.

But has anyone looked at the eBay prices for Samurai Shodown Anthology? Used copies of the PS2 version are selling for around $50 on average. NEW versions go for over $120. Why the hell is this particular title SO EXPENSIVE? The Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury Anthologies got relatively large print runs, but man... You'd think SNK would want to print a second run of this game.

Maybe I'm just pissed that I couldn't buy this when it was new. Still. WTF? Over in Japan it's even gotten a budget release, so it's not even close to being rare.

Maybe I just wanted to vent... They've gotten several collections that we won't get (ADK, Sunsoft, Savage Reign). Stupid SNK. >_<

Simply put, it was released in very limited quantities through very few retailers. I had to buy mine on Amazon at release as I couldn't find any brick and mortar retailers that stocked it.

Yeah, it didn't ship to any Gamestops as far as I can tell. Kmart/Sears had it online but it's sold out now and never made it to stores.

It's OMG rare right now. If you find any for retail, buy them all.

This is one compilation I'm annoyed to have held off on. I mean, the PS2 version got such a stupid small print run, that I was SOL when trying to pick it up a mere couple months after release. I settled for the Wii version, but am still actively seeking out a PS2 copy. I've heard from some people that Wal-Mart carried it, might be a YMMV thing.

I searched in California and Tennessee. Nothing.

Why are the Wii and PSP versions stupidly common, while the PS2 version isn't? Agh!

Walmart use to have these in stock but I unfortuantely never grabbed one. But I'm curious about everyone responding in this thread: are you mad you didn't pick one up to play or because you don't have one to sell on ebay? I already know Kitsune's answer:p

I'm in both camps. I WANT the game and didn't pick it up because I figured that it would go down in price and be readily available, just like the other SNK games I've bought in the past. I don't always resell pricey games, you know. :P

Also, my local TRU never stocked this, apparently. They don't seem to like violent games.

I want to play it and keep it for my collection, not to sell, in fact if i got multiple copys of this game, i would sell them at a fair price, just to not be a price scalper. I'm not looking to make money on them, pissed i had the chance to buy it, and now its gone. I can almost get any other snk game for good price, even if there quite old, on the ps2. But this game.....grr Only 3 snk games i need for the ps2 now. :( and the newest might turn out to be the hardest/most expensive.

I need to check my local Walmart and Sams, just in case. I recall seeing them quite a few times in one of those stores (surely Sams), so if they still have a copy, I will pick one up.

I'm going to visit my local stores during the week. I remember the local TRU had a ton of games in storage... Maybe the guys in charge put something in the back, as usual. (Hell, back when I was working there, they kept dozens of copies of Art of Fighting Anthology to sell on XMas... and they didn't sell a single one. :P)

I didn't realized it when up so high. I rented this game to a friend in sealed condition. He haven't play it yet. May I can ask him to give it back to me. I saw this copy at Wal-mart for $14.83. It was on bargain bin for a while.

Could it be that perhaps the prices are going so high our ot sheer desperation?

Perhaps it's because a certain group of buyers kept getting outbid, and finally won by throwing whatever price, thus hiking the price.

Maybe in a few weeks or months the price may go down again.

Um, guys? These prices are going to CRASH, HARD.

I went to the Walmart across the border to go look for some supplies and to see if they had any in stock. They didn't, so I used one of their internet booths to look for the game just for shits and giggles. And they had copies in stock. I bought one right then and there for $19 shipped ($15 + shipping + taxes). It should get to me in a week.

These eBay prices are not going to remain so high for very much longer. Maybe SNK ordered a second run, considering CDUniverse got some extra copies as well. (Dammit, I should've waited to get home to get mine from CD Universe, but I didn't want to risk having to deal with scalpers. *glares*)

I don't know how soon prices start to come down but take in mind that many gamers that pay so high for the game are people that don't have many more options that eBay.

Not sure what the frenzy is over it in recent months ...

I suppose it's a testament to what a decent compilation it is compared to some of the others that SNK Playmore have released.

Metal Slug Anthology on PS2 went through a similar brief period of high value, I'm sure SNK Playmore will do another printing of Samurai Shodown to meet the sales demand.

Well, it appears that the game is based off the Japanese version of Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi Kenkauden, so Samsho 1 through 5 will be perfect. But 6 was tacked on by Terminal Reality, so...

I thought it was good too. Didn't notice anything that impeded gameplay ... though I'm notoriously not a NEO-GEO arcade vs. port expert or fighting game frame counter or anything like that.

Two companies have made NeoGeo compilations for the PS2.

The first one, G1M2, handled the entire NeoGeo Online Collection set: Art of Fighting (1-3), Fatal Fury (1, 2, Special +3; RB, RBS, RB2), King of Fighters Orochi (95-97), King of Fighters Nests (99-2001), Kizuna Encounter, Samurai Shodown (original with SS1-5), Sunsoft Collection (Waku Waku 7 + Agressors of Dark Kombat), and ADK Soul (Ninja Commando, Ninja Combat, Ninja Master's, Twinkle Star Sprites). These compilations are -almost flawless-. No slowdowns other than the ones that appeared on the original hardware, virtually no loading times, original and arrange music on most games, and there's practice modes on the newer compilations. But they don't include any bonus materials. There's some issues with music being out of sync (as in, it starts an instant too late) and some instances of graphic glitches, but nothing overly distracting.

The second one is Terminal Reality. They completely botched the PS2 SNK Arcade Classics (half-speed gameplay on most games, but it seems the Wii version works fine), Metal Slug Anthology had very slight, but still noticeable, input lag, and KOF Collection: The Orochi Saga (US version) had slight audio bugs in all games, but they're very noticeable in KOF '98. On the other hand, their games include bonus materials, SNK Arcade Classics had achievements of a sort, and The Orochi Saga has a challenge mode that lets you unlock a lot of official artwork and the game's original and arrange soundtracks (though you can't play with the arranged soundtracks.)

The former puts gameplay over extras. The latter puts extras over gameplay and bug testing.

I'll give Terminal Reality a few points for the bonus materials and overall presentation, but they really need to get some proper game testers.

*stops ranting*

Yup, and even after months or years of trying to sell at a high price, they might NEVER lower it in price, thinking that one day, some fool will purchase it at their asking price.

And it just might eventually happen, unfortunately.

megasdkirby
10-25-2009, 09:24 AM
I'm pretty sure the $30 auction copy will go a bit higher, perhaps between $45-$50. But in no way will it reach $100 like the other BIN's are at now. Otherwise, people would have purchased the BIN's right away.

We will all see thos BIN's for many months, maybe years to come. Those resellers who purchased all those copies will refuse to lower the price. Perhaps a copy of two will sell, but most will not.

Unless a plethora of people decide they desperately want the game...
