How reliable are they? Also what versions are out there.

Get the Action Replay 4M Auto Plus. I use this one, one of the best, if not, the best. Great for cheats, makes your system region free, and increases your ram to play games like metal slug that require it.

There are other versions, but play asia offers these for around $25 http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-k8-49-en-70-1b2.html

I second this. I got one not long after I started buying imports and never looked back. Sure, it doesnt let you play burns but what it does is good enough to keep me happy.
If you can get one for $40 or under, it's worth it.

And I "third" it. It's the best thing that ever happened to my Saturn.

The Action Replay is very good, but there are times when certain games won't save on the Backup RAM on the cart. I've heard of Panzer Dragoon Saga not saving, and import games that use the 4MB cart not saving. And a select few games such as Ultraman and King of Fighter '95 aren't playable because they use a ROM cart instead of a RAM cart.

But other than that, I like it. It's your best and pretty much only option to play 4MB RAM cart Import games, it's pretty reliable, and easy to use as an all-in-one package. They can get a little expensive though.

I can tell you from experience that my Action Replay will not save any files from my copy of Dracula X. All the other functions work find except for the save feature and I have even cleaned it.
