Replacing capacitors: need help

Recently, a capacitor blew on the video card on my Linux machine (Ubuntu), so right now it's out of commission.

I can either purchase a new one or try and repair the existing one. Seeing how cheap I am, I will try and repair it. :)

The video card is an eVGA FX5500 256MB AGP4x/8x. Here are some pictures:

I can make out that it's 16V, but any other info I can use in order to find a replacement? Like the farads?

And yes, I know it's easiest to buy a replacement card, but like I said before, I am REALLY cheap. LOL

1000uf. You should probably replace all the caps on there, not just the one. Honestly Id just invest in a new FX card though. The fan on yours is prob going to be on its last leg soon, as that's a pretty old card. From glancing at the corner of that fan anyway, looks like the fan/cooler combo from the Geforce 2 GTS line of coolers. Once the fan dies on those the gpu burns up pretty fast, as that heat sink isn't designed to move heat at all on its own without a fan. You could get a newer silent cooled one for pretty cheap, maybe around $20 or less after shipping. They also make silent cooled Radeon 9600 non pro cards, and silent cooled GF 6200 agp cards.

The farad value is most important, but the voltage not as much. You can always go up in voltage, but never down. The farad value leaves little room for error and should be replaced with one exactly the same.

You may be able to find the cap at radio shack, but I never have much luck. They're also more expensive there. The only thing is, it's best to order multiple caps from Mouser as the shipping on one or 2 caps will kill it.

Yea the caps at Radioshack are typically not rated for high temps either. They are good for some projects, but on something like a motherboard or grafx card Id go with better stuff.

I would also clean up that card as best i could, I see lots of dust in the fan and some "cobwebs" from the blown cap, unless they are just cobwebs :D

cheap fix 1000uf 16v just use ones with legs change all of them easy fix
