One thing I'm a little confused about is are you counting the Gameboy Color/Gameboy B&W games in this category too? I've always been a little confused as to whether include games like Wario Land 2 and Pokemon Gold and Silver in the Gameboy category or Gameboy Color.

No pics? I was told there would be pics?

Anyway, check NA for their list of GB games, I have no idea how many were released. You're missing at least one that I could see from your list: King James Bible (Wisdom Tree).

Pretty impressive. Personally I think that collecting GB is very easy... IF you are going specifically for loose. If you try for CIB it's possibly the hardest one to complete (besides the 2600). Really nice on the CIB F-1 Pole Position. Definitely the most impressive in your collection.

BetaWolf47
02-01-2010, 10:00 AM
Do you just stack them, or do you have your loose carts displayed somehow?

Also, this is just your grey, black, and yellow carts, right? Nothing clear, which can only be played on GBC and GBA?

I know threads like this, some people dont like but Honestly I've hit the point in my collection and where its getting hard to rememeber what i have and dont have when I go out looking for games. So, does posting your list on a message board somehow make it easier to remember, or is it just a habit of yours to make threads that you know some people don't like?

If you just want some place online to post notes to yourself, may I suggest http://pad.helicoid.net ?

Pics would have made the thread much more interesting to check out, so it's a meh for me. Congratulations anyhow. I wish I had bought the 100+ empty game boy boxes that a store closing down years ago had....sigh....

I have know i have bubsy CIB and a few others that arnt show but the bulk majority of the collection is here in these pics.

I just won some eBay auctions last night for Pac in time yogis gold rush tail gator and mega lit all with boxes. I am attempting to get the boxes but as everyone know that is a seriously difficult task I am very fortunate to get the new boxes i just listed Ive been wanting them for some time. The only games I lost was Alfred chicken and tmnt 3 i couldn't believe Alfred chicken went for the price it did. Anyway now there are pics so please by all means let me know what you think.

Yes Jorpho it makes it so much easier to remember by doing it this way thank you so much for pointing that out to everyone it means a lot.......Pezcore343 As for the black and clear carts of the game boy color Ive left those out of this list as I'm trying to focus on the gray carts first though picking up the others if they are really rare of at a good price when I see them. I know to some it might be a unorganized way of doing things but it works for me. BetaWolf47 I keep them in some storage tubs for the moment I haven't set up a display for them yet as I'm not really sure how I wanna do it. Enjoy the pics. :)

I think those should count, cuz they were still within the original Game Boy's lifespan (i.e. they were playable on it). It's not like they're GBC only games (clear green, different shape carts).

Also, Wario Land 2 was released as an original Game Boy game (grey cart) first.

Edit: Holy shit @ those pics^^^

Well that's a relief to hear. I got Kid Dracula for 15 bucks at a store in Austin compared to what Ive seen on eBay I'm happy with that.

I do have the grey Wario land 2 I went after that one first.

I'm wanting to build a stand for the store display but haven't gotten to it yet.

What kind of "opinions" are you looking for anyways? For recommendations, all I can think of are some import games, like the European exclusive port of Battle of Olympus.

At first I saw your list of games, and was mildly impressed. Then I saw your pictures... Wow. Very impressive indeed! The nice thing about Gameboy games is that, in my opinion, as long as they have the plastic clamshell, you're set.

GameBoyGeek
02-01-2010, 04:56 PM
I have around 100 extra clam shells that are not in use at the moment and I dont sell my spares with them either, If i do its rare.

I'm going to get the boxes where i can and maybe one day have a CIB collection but who knows. I'm glad everyone likes the pics. The room that stuff is in is my game room which is still being put together at the moment.

By opinions i ment is it good collection as it stands basicly. This is the only video game system ive ever tryed to complete the library on and probly will only do just this one. I've got 1 or 2 Europe exclusives that I didn't list. If anyone has a list of those that would be a big help.

dbiersdorf
02-01-2010, 04:59 PM
I'm not really familiar with the Game Boy library at all... what are the hardest games to track down? And which are the most expensive? I've always been in awe of people who collect for this system and the Game Gear. Getting completes is so difficult and there was so much shovelware that no one can even really remember it makes it even harder. I think if you're going for the complete collection you have to go CIB! And then branch out to getting all the Game Boy Color games as well. It's tough but damn, would that be impressive.

I really like that store display too. Did GBC have one of those too?

GameBoyGeek
02-01-2010, 05:16 PM
Not sure about GBC having one similar to that. I don't think so....I mean I never saw one before and I remember seeing the displays for the Grey cart game boy games all the time back in the day. When I started this collection i was just trying to get the games, then some seller on eBay had a ton of instruction books and i thought well....their cheep so why not and i picked up a ton of them from him then I saw star trek tng in a store here in Texas for 4.00 CIB and thought...well...why not and its just kinda gone from there lol.

I'm always on the look out for games i don't have to be CIB but Ive gotten so far into the collection that now I'm replacing games that I have picked up for the collection when i come across said game CIB. I'm hopping to get Flintstones and Jetsons cib but....not likely I still cant lock down tmnt 3.

Some of the hardest to track down are

Amazing tater
spuds adventure
f1 pole position

and with the boxes its next to impossible so yeah....its not been easy I got lucky with pole position.

I have vague memories of seeing Pokemon Yellow on promo at a Target and could have sworn it was shown on a Game Boy Color store display that had a TV connected to it. Who knows though, either way you're collection is awesome. How much is that F1 Pole Position even worth anyway? Lots of questions I know, I just know nothing about original Game Boy.

PS - do you collect Game Boy systems at all?

GameBoyGeek
02-01-2010, 06:25 PM
Well I payed 330.00 or close to it so its very very rare. How much its actually worth I am not sure. Boxed games are rare on their own but lately they seem to be more and more elusive. Yes i do collect the systems. I am currently trying to get some of the play it loud systems. I actually got my first game boy pocket not long ago. My friend Kevin works crushing cars and he gets whatever people have left in them. Anyway he came across a red game boy pocket and mega man 3. So its mine now.

Oh ya know some one had it on ebay a while back so I suckered him out of it. lol Jk. Ya if it wasnt for jeff here I wouldnt have the pole position. I used to confuse the f1 racer for it as well.

I honestly have no idea how much yogi is worth with the box. I payed 50.00 so i hope its more than that cause id like to think i got a good deal lol.

Fyi jeff that top gun game is the same one you told me about when i picked up pole position i went and grabbed it about a week ago.

Wow, nice collection! Despite what others have said, the list alone was impressive! The pictures just made it even better. Definitely liking the Game Boy display case. GB/GBC/GBA are my favorite systems to collect for. I'm not going for entire collections though, just the good games.

I like how you have all of the black carts in a row. Maybe group the other colored carts as well, and place them all centered in the middle, with the black ones. That would look really cool.

I'm surprised you don't have all of the Final Fantasy's CIB, they're not that hard to come by. I have a complete copy of Final Fantasy Adventure that I'm about to sell, incidentally. And did you leave it out, or do you not have Final Fantasy Legend II at all? That's a must have!

You also need R.C. Pro-Am, which I also have CIB and I'm about to sell, lol. Let me know if you're interested.

Kid Dracula is gonna be a little steep to get CIB. 2 sold on Ebay recently, 1 for $112 and the other for $208.

Isn't it "Ninja Gaiden SHADOW" and now "Showdown"?

So how close are you to having at least a cart-copy of every game? Do you have like a list you are going off of? I know Wikipedia has a list, and a PDF that you can download. I'm curious to see how many you have left. I'm not even sure what the total number of games is, do you know?

Keep us posted on this, I'd love to see you complete this!

You seem to be doing a good job collecting. You mentioned that you have trouble remembering what you have when you go out, so I'd suggest dumping your list into an excel file, then importing the file to a phone or pad device that has that capability. If you don't have such a device, you can always buy a cheap "last generation" one off e-bay. You just need it to be able to open an Excel file and have the capabilty to connect with your computer via USB. You should be able to do this without a contract.

Then you can take the device into the store with you. Be careful about games that start with "The." They should probably be listed twice.

GameBoyGeek

Good advice on that thanks :) I figured pole position wasnt worth the full amount but regardless of what a price guide says what you pay is what its worth. That's the way I look at it for the most part. I know its not the case with everything and I am sure someone will tell me I'm wrong and whatever but ya know what???? Screw it, dont really care that much.

I think I am close to having all the carts for the american release there are games in the pic that I am sure I didnt put on the list. I'm fairly sure that I have ff2 but not 100% for sure. If you are selling any gameboy games with the box by all means let me know :)

Well, you overpaid for F1 Pole Position but it'll probably retain it's value or increase in the future. Are you going for a CIB collection or just collecting boxes as you go?

I have around 200 GB carts myself, already have most of the rare ones, now I just need to find the common ones.

I was going for just the carts and grabbing boxes along the way but its shifting. I'll get the boxes when I can and eventually have a cib collection but its not a must have right now. I know at this point as ive stated before that im to far along to just start over so I wont. So when I get a cib game i'll sell the counter part I have. For example I just bought around 22 empty boxes from a guy on eBay so I don't have to sell those carts later because I will soon have the boxes in my possession. I'm really excited about getting tail gator and mega lit CIB those i have been looking for, for a long time now. I was wondering how much that kid Dracula game was going for. I didn't bid on it once it got up to 80 cause I just don't have the cash for it right now.

Again I probly did over pay for pole position but whatever I have it and as you said it will most likely increase in vaule u down the road so if its only worth 100 bucks this year in 5 years it could be worth 800. Better to over pay a little now then to pay full asking price by the time it gets to be seriously expensive.

If it doesn't increase in value at all then Oh well I still have it.

If you have a gametz account we could work something out there. If not, I'll be putting them on Ebay soon, and a link to the auction will be put in the auction forum on this site.

For keeping track of games, you're probably at the point where you would be better off just keeping a list of what games you still need, instead of a list of what you have. At least, for when you're out, looking for games.

The only games I know off the top of my head that are CIB, ready to be sold, are Final Fantasy Adventure and R.C. Pro-Am. I have more though, just have to get them together. I also have lots of extra boxes and manuals that I want to get rid of (I used to collect 'complete' but recently decided to stop that and I'm selling off all my boxes and manuals). You already have the games, so it would be an easy way for you to make them complete.

How many of these games do you hate? Think seriously about putting that money somewhere useful (or at least more fun).

Which game was $330, again? Pokemon Yellow?

.....Yes it was pokemon yellow i figured wow what an investment. No body has pokemon yellowwith the box. Hot damn I got lucky with that one.

To answer your actual question there are a few games that I do hate however having a complete collection means just that having it complete. I do my best to get deals where I can and try not to spend to much money in one place. It doesn't always work that way as any collector will tell you. If something that is as rare as f1 pole position comes along CIB more often then not I wouldn't have paid that much for it. However it doesn't and I had the money to play with so that's what I did with it.

No, really, I couldn't tell because this discussion is all over the place. F1 Pole Position?

also lol @ buying games you don't like. (I figure the least I can do is try to urge you to buy things you DO care about so you don't end up dumping the collection at a huge loss some day...I don't know why people encourage this.) Don't get me wrong, collecting is fun and you can do what you like, but it's a thought.

that F1 pole position is worth a chunk. I had 3 people bid right around $300 and above on that, so it wasn't just one person driving up the price.

According to what I heard from some GB collectors, it was the first CIB copy to show up on ebay in 3 or 4 years

I am relatively new to GB collecting, and my collection pales in comparison to this one. Man that's extensive. But I was wondering about your consoles. Anything cool, like GB Light or Play it Loud?

I've got 1 gameboy pocket my friend got out of a car before he crushed the car. Works for his uncle. Anyway he had found a gameboy color in there too but left it for whatever reason. I dunno. I have 2 boxes for play it loud series gameboy systems but no actualy play it loud stuff.

Jeff I seriously appreciate your input on the f1 pole position. I personally really do believe that its worth the price I payed due to the rarity. Something my grandpa taught me was that sometimes what you put into something is what its worth so despite what I may have said on earlyer in the thread I honestly do believe I got a decent price on it. Was it high? yes. But again and i said this earlyer. Even if its only worth 100 bucks now the price most likely wont decrease and it jump up really really high in the next 5 years to like a worth of 800 or so. If thats the case then I got a deal a damn good deal and it makes my collection look that much better.

Ed pay no mind to my attitude I had just gotten several people making cracks about the f1 game earlier on and I just dont like when people pop off comments like "pft you paid what for that? what an idiot" I don't care what people think of me that's not it at all. I just dont like it when i ask for an opinion on something and then they start tearing me down about it. So no offense taken.

I remember when I picked up barbie game girl...that was....embarising....im avoiding mary kate and ashely games like the plauge.

His price on that kiosk is simply ridiculous. I didn't pay 1/7th what he is asking, and that included shipping.

You may have already said this, but I don't feel like reading through all the posts again. Do you plan to collect some Game Boy Hardware? I know you mentioned a couple things you have, but do you plan to get more? Compared to what you've put into all these games, it wouldn't take much, and it would really boost the appeal of your collection, and would look awesome in the pics.

Oh, and like jeffg pointed out, F-1 Pole Racer IS worth around that much, otherwise it wouldn't have sold for as much as it did. Plus, since it was the only complete copy in years, it's just going to keep going up in value. I bet if you sold it right now you'd get more than you paid for it.

neuropolitique
02-03-2010, 02:06 PM
Yeah, but he's paying high fees on that if he's willing to take much less. Not sure how store item fees are, but regular auction fees would be pretty high.

A lot of his stuff is priced way too high, but some of it is priced reasonably too. I'm still considering a couple items from there, but the price of that kiosk is humorous.

dnkykng89
02-03-2010, 03:56 PM
Wait, did you read the whole auction? He also stated that he doesn't expect to get that much for it. But I do think you're right. That's pretty insanely priced. I'll be watchin it to see how much it goes for

There's another copy up right now.

Yes in fact there is another copy up I found it last night and Id love to get my hands on it as well cause I'm greedy. But again these people saying that "oh this isn't worth that or that isn't worth this" when...clearly it sold for that price and believe me If I had not got my final bid in it still would have been over 300 bucks so again to some people its worth that.

It kills me man and I am not knocking you in particular OK but Ive noticed in my time here at this site that there are some very stingy people when it comes to prices and everyone here knows what a lot of this stuff is worth and will try and get a deal where they can however they can. I don't blame anyone for trying to save a little money while adding to their collection but seriously I do my research to just because I am relatively new here still doesn't mean I don't check my sources, so when people point out things and say "pft you over payed" Well that's fine think what ya want but did these people ever think that maybe they just got a really good deal on said item or that they are unbelievably good at haggling where some people arnt?

Price guides are fine and they give you SOME idea of what something is worth. Not an exact Idea SOME meaning a round about idea. If it goes 100.00 bucks over what the book value says it is then obviously the price has gone up.

The kiosk price is questionable because of what it is. He states in his auction that he doesnt expect to get the price he is asking he used its price based on another auction that sold for that much. Again I'm watching the new pole position just to see how high it goes. I'd almost put money on it that it will for at least over 200 which im waiting to see.....i said ALMOST put money on it.

scottw182 I found it on ebay going for more that what the current one is going for. I payed what classic plastics is asking for his however mine was higher when it started so i talked him down to that price. But keep in mind mine had the original instruction almost no peeling damage at all and the keys to the inside of the machine.

dnkykng89 It's funny that people seem to know all about how much something is worth and point out that that seller always does this or always prices to high yet seemingly they fail to read the actual listing for info such as that.

@ dnkykng89 Well I do appreciate it. I do try TRY to be mature when I can. I'm 26 so I would hope I have matured some lol. But seriously that is how I feel about it. Yeah price guides are fun and can give you general Idea but in the long run what you pay for it is part of what its worth now that being said that depends on the item you are paying for. I mean If the actual monalisa was found at a yard sale for a dollar and you buy it does that mean its actually worth that? No of course its worth more but we're not talking priceless paintings here we're talking video games.

I appreciate everyone's responses regaurdless of weather or not thier opinions are that I don't know how to manage my money and i should only pay so much for a game other wise its not worth it.

Like I said earlier if something is only worth around 100.00 now but a bidding war will take it up past that to around 300.00 then its worth that to someone which more than likely means someone will pay more for it ergo the value goes up so just be glad you got it for the price you did because the next time it shows up you may not get so lucky.

Mind your wallets and don't just blow your cash just because its there, think long and hard about it, is it worth it to you? will it be worth it when your ready to sell it? Well the answer to that is are you planning to sell it in a year or 10? because that right there might make all the difference. As time goes on ALL of our collections will become harder and harder to find and I don't plan to part with my stuff until I am a very old man.
Then we will see what the over all value will be, because there WILL be someone out there that will want the stuff that will probly pay what it is worth if not more. That's just how things go. Then again the entire video game industry could crumble and not a single thing any of us have would be worth dog poo. But I doubt that's the case.

I'm just out of touch with the prices on complete games, they seem to be much higher than I thought. For loose games getting $5 per cart is a bit of a challenge, I just didn't expect complete copies to be worth so much more than the loose cart. I'm glad to know Yogi Bear is worth that much complete, I have a complete copy I bought back when the games were still somewhat current and I thought I overpaid. I guess I didn't. It's a pretty good game though.

Was that Pokemon Yellow complete or sealed? I think I had a boxed copy I sold a couple years ago for $10, I think it was missing the cardboard insert.

I just saw Yellow mentioned and didn't notice F1 PP, sorry for that.

Anyhow, good to hear that these kiosks don't cost QUITE that much. I won't get away with hauling something that big into the house though (again, unless somebody wants to trade me one for a Stratovox classic Taito cocktail).

Back on topic, I see the Canon logo smack dab in the middle of Pole Position's box, that wouldn't fly today. Pretty funny though, good thing I'm not such a fanboy that I'd track down a copy of the game just for that ( <- Canon system user).

The Kiosk is pretty slick, I'd love to do a game review video with one.

On a serious note, we've both been around here long enough to see a number of people suddenly get smacked by real life money needs or stop caring about their games and end up selling their investment of 10+ years for a fraction of what it cost them. If that can happen even to a wise man like Flack I figure it can't hurt just to be a voice saying "think twice about this." Sorry if I'm coming across like an obnoxious missionary, but I do think it's important, bad economy or no.

Anyway, it's a discussion forum and (within limits, I'm not trying to be a dick) I can say whatever the hell I want, you know, so what if it's unpopular. I can't force anybody to do something they don't want to, but it's not hurting anybody that I wrote that.

Calm the beef min, dude. I've been collecting Game Boy for a long time, and I think I have a pretty good handle on average prices for stuff. Prices through the years have steadily risen. The past year or so, though, prices have gotten crazy. It appears to be a handful of speculators just trying to get a collection as fast as possible, thinking they're gonna make a mint off their shit. Imo, the price a speculator pays is not what a game is worth.

I'm not saying that's you. Just stating the reasoning behind my comments, and a couple others of folks I know.

btw, that's a nice collection you've started. Def need more hardware though. ;)

It seems like boxes/manuals have risen in price quite a bit, but carts are still cheap. I got 90% of mine by buying lots on Ebay and selling off the rest.

I was a bit off with the number of carts that I have. I actually have 219 at the moment.
