The X'eye will not work with the Master System ROMs.
Weird, how come? Will the CDX?

Greg2600

CDX should work with SMS. Nomad and Genesis 3 don't play SMS by default. The circuit running from the cart reader to the ASIC for SMS is not there. If you ran a line between them though, it works. I'm surprised the X'Eye doesn't.

Awesome when do you expect to get them in? Can I preorder one?

Also, yes I meant SAG ... Doh!

I recommend to ask to be emailed. As long as you check your email often (one of the luxuries of using Google email on an Android phone!) you'll catch it again before they sell out.

I ordered mine from SAG about a minute after I received the email ;) It arrived in a matter of two or so days and I have to tell you that this device kicks major ass!

I do not have a 32X units (yet) but ran through a few dozen Genesis roms and every single one worked perfectly. I tested a few SMS games and only found the stand alone "Astro Warrior" to be glitchy....although the Astro Warrior w/Pit Pot rom works perfectly? Odd...but at least I can see them "surely revive zanoni"!

The roms do not have to be named ".bin" but internally have to be bin versions. There is actually a tool the everdrive creator released that will mass convert your roms for you easily. A file limitation exists in which you can only store a max of 133 roms per directory, so you'll need to organize. Also, I found that the file menu cannot read directories that have a number sign (#) in them, so do not name directories like "#-B".

As for rom loading, I saw that slow loading in a youtube video and my heart dropped. But, thankfully, it is not true ;) Roms load (at least on the v2.1 rev card I received from SAG) in a matter of seconds.

Good idea!

I'm glad to hear that the roms load faster than the ones on youtube. I noticed that they loaded pretty slowly, maybe it was a slow card? who knows.

The card I received with mine from SAG is a Kingston 2GB. Not a bad deal already being pre-built into a cart case with label and 2GB card for $99. Heck, about $40 cheaper than either of my SNES and NES powerpaks that came with NO card!

Yeah, not sure what the youtuber was using when he did that video. SMS roms load in a flash (maybe a second or two?) and Genesis roms load in a few (maybe four or five?) seconds. Even the largest roms load this quickly, so it is all good there :)

EDIT: Ohh, I did notice there was a yes/no option for "Game Flashing" or something to that effect in the settings. It is probably not called exactly that (I am not in front of it atm) but it was something to the effect of turning on and off quick flashing. I bet a million bucks that the youtuber turned the option off and it slooowly writes the game. Maybe for a more accurate write? Who knows. It was on by default and I have had no issues.

FWIW: I just clocked SSF2 (largest Genny ROM I have loaded) flashing on my v2.0 and I got 33 seconds.

The option my v2.0 pcb has that effects loading time is "Fast Write" on/off. It was on.

Anyone care to test their 2.1 and see if there is a defined difference? If your cart erases before writing, just start timing after the erase step for comparison purposes. :)

Unfortunately that's the downside of using ROM storage rather than a RAM solution like the Power Pak's. Also run the risk of having it crap out one day and not writing anymore.

So is the super everdrive any better than the snes powerpak? I've already got the snes powerpak and haven't had issues with it, other than save games are awkwardly handled.

From what I can tell is doesnt have the DSP built in right now, so compatibility it going to be less than the powerpak. And no superfx of course

Greg2600
10-09-2010, 11:01 AM
The Super Ever drive has no case, label, etc. unlike the Power Pak. Also no DSP-1 chip now or in the near future. Krikzz would have to either integrate a place for the chip, like the Power Pak, or a cartridge slot at the back to hook up a cart with a DSP, like the Neo Myth. In addition, the SD/ROM flashing combo is not as fast as the Power Pak's CF/RAM flashing, but PP has been a disaster with CF card compatibility issues. Super Ever Drive, even if you factor shipping, case, label, etc., is still going to be 60% of the Power Pak price, which by the way continues to increase!

Besides DSP, my main reservation on the Super EverDrive is testing and firmware. The creator has done testing, but the extent I don't know. The Genesis version has had 10 firmware updates, and expect the Super to have several as well. If you don't have the hardware to flash the firmware, it's best to wait a while and not be one of the Guinea Pigs.

PS: Stone Age Gamer is getting the Everdrive again in a few weeks and the SNES ever drive in November. He also will have the ability to update firmware.

50 total.

30 Deluxe and 20 boards. However if for some reason we sell a lot more Deluxe than boards I will make more deluxe from some of the boards that I have left.

For example, if I have only 3 Deluxe left, but 15 boards I would probably make 10 more Deluxe from those boards.

Basically. This why we announced a specific day and time for purchasing. Unfortunately due to demand we cannot offer pre-ordering/back ordering of these items at this time. This may be possible on future batches as demand dies a bit.

I do imagine these will go fast, but not as fast as the first batch. The first batch we only had 15 and they sold out in about 24 hours. This time we have 50. So I expect this batch to probably last until Monday at least (but I can't guarantee anything of course). They will be limited 1 per customer at this time as well.

I think Igor had to wait some time for parts. Also, be aware that the Genesis Everdrive no longer has a pause button for SMS. You'd have to get one and solder it in yourself.

Does this batch of SAG overdrives have a pause button?

No. It was a lot of extra work for Igor to put them on when most people didn't even care about SMS pause feature. However, it can be added. The next batch if there's enough interest I plan on ordering a few that have the pause button, however they would cost more because Igor would charge me more.

It can still play SMS game ROMs on your Genesis, but any game that requires pause will not work obviously. He looked into actually making the Start button on the Genesis controller work as SMS pause, but he found that because he is actually haulting the processor on the EverDrive and the processor reads the controller inputs that you could never exit pause once you went into it.

I once rigged a Genesis controller and my Power Base converter to use the A button on the Genesis as the pause button. Without it, I would have never been able to make the false slo-mo needed to finally beat Rambo. Damn game is hard as shit.

So, you could map the A button...seemed to work fine for me. Lots of folks would probably bitch about that kind of placement, though,

2. it said it was going to cost 50 bucks to ship to Canada using USPS. Yowza. Luckily i can pick up parcels in Maine, so I just got it shipped there for free. Still though, 50 bucks will likely scare off some people.

I ordered just the EverDrive board because OVGE is here in Tulsa tomorrow and I'll need the rest of my money to blow there!

The EverDrive seems awesome, however I'm sad to see the pause button gone (Rendering Psyco Fox unbeatable), but ultimately the only reason I ordered it is so I could finally play my import Sega CD games. I have wanted a region converter for YEARS! Here's hoping it works with the X'Eye or CDX because that's all I have as far as Sega CD goes!

Wow thanks for pointing out $50 shipping. When I made some changes to correct some spelling on the listing a few hours ago I must have messed something up. It was put into the system as 11 pounds and not 11 ounces.

If any other international saw a ridiculous international rate that has been corrected I apologize.

Did you have to mod the genesis controller port too?

I made a small port on the PBC (A DB 9, which was overkill, but I had a broken controller I wanted to use the cord from, so I made a matching M-F pair) with two leads going to the pause button. I led that cord down to the controller and soldered the corresponding leads to the A button. Then, I just used little zip ties to keep the cords together. That's all there was to it. Didn't need to modify the Genesis controller ports at all. Would have been a cool idea, though, to have a hidden connection between the PBC and the Genny instead of wiring the controller. Hmmmm.

It worked great for a long while, Then one day, the controller died. The only real electronics to it was the chip that controlled the rapid fire, so I never did figure out why it stopped working. Worked one day, then it didn't.

I got my Everdrive and have been toying around with it. I tested it on my X'Eye and my Sega CDX.

It plays Genesis games on my X'Eye perfectly but after I flash the game I have to manually hit reset to get the game to load. Not a big deal but something I though should be noted.

It also plays Genesis games on my CDX perfectly as well. However I don't have to hit reset on the CDX. After the game is flashed it automatically resets and loads!

Unfortunately the main reason I bought the Everdrive is so I could play all my import Sega CD games. I have amassed a small collection over the past 5 years and have never been able to play a single one of them. Once I read the Everdrive would support a multi/regional bios for the Sega CD I knew it was an instant purchase. Unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work with either the X'Eye or CDX. I guess it only works with standard Model 1 or 2 Sega CD... sigh...

Its still a cool little device regardless, but I wanted to note these things.

No, it does not support DSP1 since it doesn't support special chips. The PowerPak (I believe) uses donor DSP1 chips.

He is always working on something, maybe he is working on a way to get DSP1 support on future PCB revision. This is just speculation I do not know for sure. So if DSP1 is really important to you then PowerPak at this time is probably better option.

Just FYI we will be offering a couple different bundles that may make Super EverDrive more appealing. For example a EverDrive-MD + Super ED bundle that will save you quite a bit of money and even a Super ED + FC-16 Go bundle that also will save you quite a bit.

Greg2600
11-18-2010, 08:15 PM
One of the problems with the DSP-1 for him to do is that he's in the Ukraine. I'm not sure that the SNES/Super Famicom was actually sold there legally. He's said before that the games are a little difficult to come by. Therefore, buyers would have to likely send him games, or desoldered chips. Or buyers would have to solder them on themselves if he makes a place for them.

So if Krikzz does something, it's probably going to have to be a pass through slot like the Neo Myth cart, where you plug in a valid SNES game that has a DSP-1 in the back of it. Now Krikzz has been trying to keep the cart modifications to a minimum, which is why he stopped including the pause button for the SMS.

Does not work with the GenMobile, this may be fixed in future firmware I am not sure. He ordered a GenMobile from me awhile back to try tog et it to work.

I don't think you need to do anything special. For SSF2, make sure when its flashing it actually displays the ROM type as SSF2. He had to do special coding for this game I believe.

Has anyone else had issues with game saves on their Everdrive?

I had read that you could flash a game like an RPG for example, play it and then save your game like you normally would. In the meantime you could flash some other games and play them and eventually re-flash the RPG that you were playing and your game saves would still be there.

I was excited that I could finally play Barver Battle Saga and Monster World IV on the actual hardware. I got quite a ways into Barver Battle Saga and saved my game. Then decided that I would try out some some shooters like Gleylancer and Twinkle Tale and some various master system games. Finally I flashed Monster world IV and got a couple of hours into it and saved my game.

The other night I wanted to get back to Barver Battle Saga, so I re-flashed it, and when it loaded there were no game saves!!! So I re-flashed Monster World IV and there were no game saves either!

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to do anything special in the options menu? I even updated my OS from 13 to 15 and while I have noticed a huge improvement in compatibility with Master System games it did nothing to fix my game save issue.

Okay, I just checked my Everdrive options.

For SMD SRAM it lets me choose "OFF" or "Auto". Auto is selected. Further down there is an option for SRAM bank on the same screen. It lets me select 0,1,2,3. It is currently set for 0.

Do I need to manually change the SRAM bank for each game that saves? If this is the case I am assuming that you are limited to only 4 separate save game files.

You can save each Sram bank to *.sram* files on youryour SD card and load them for use later. So , no , you are not limited to four saves.

The above post may be a bit too short :P

The thing is , each game with save function use one SRAM BANK. So when you are on "SRAM bank 0" , then you save your game , Brave Battle Saga , that particular save would occupied SRAM bank 0.

Now if you want to play another game with save function you have to change to other SRAM bank so your Brave Battle Saga's sram won't be overwriten.

And *IF* you want to use that "SRAM bank 0" for other games but also want to keep Brave Battle Saga save for later. You need to save "SRAM bank 0" into your SD card by using "save/load to SD" function in tool box menu.

Hope that clear some stuffs up.

Krikzz has been making so many changes, it's been tough to keep up with documentation. Plus he's not great with English.

Speaking of updates, Game Genie Codes are now available via OS update #17 (http://krikzz.com/pub/support/everdrive-md/os-bin/os-v17.bin).
I haven't tried it to describe the menu changes, but you can either load the codes from a text file (probably vertically arranged) or enter them. Text file 512Byte or less.

Yes, save data is supported like all other EverDrive's. Plays SG-1000, too.

What's the benefit over the genesis version?

What's the benefit over the genesis version?

It's for the Master System.

If you have a JVC X'Eye, the Genesis Everdrive will not play SMS games. Also, if you have FM sound on your SMS, the SMS Everdrive is better in that regard. It also allows SG-1000 games to be played on a US SMS. I got one immediately and I love it.

Can't use 3D games (if you have the glasses and adapter) on Genesis, and a couple SMS games don't work, and SG-1000.

Oh good call. That'd be awesome.

Probably several months. Given the long development that others have had for N64 devices, I'd be very surprised he can do it quickly.

Game Gear ED's are about ready, he got the PCB's delivered. Krikzz might finish the Gameboy/GBC ED next.

So he's doing a N64 device?

I thought he was just intrigued by the possibility when I was reading the forum he post at a while back after someone told him how to get around the N64's lockout devices various carts had, or something to that effect?

My thoughts exactly.

This guy is truly awesome. His work output is very impressive, especially if he is doing this stuff solo. I'll buy pretty much anything he designs that I could put to use.

Any idea why threads aren't allowed to be viewed in the Nintendo forum over there? I seem to be able to access everything else.

Even made a account, but it's been hours and still no automated email approval message with a link to activate my account.

Edit - Finally showed up, wonder why they made one forum require a log in to view, seemingly out of random.

Now that several decent N64 flashcards seem to finally be on the way, someone needs to hack F-Zero X one of these days. Would be nice to get the N64 DD exclusive tracks and songs in the game.

And a peak at Space Station Silicon Valley to see if the crash bug with an expansion pack installed could easily be fixed would be nice.

wow. Right on.

Great, now I need a way to play game gear games that doesn't suck. I have a hard time with the old GG screen.

I am really surprised with how quickly these products are coming out. It really is a wonderful time to be a retro gamer :)

Wow, I haven't been following things lately, didn't know Krikzz was developing a TG-16 Everdrive now. That's only good for cartridge-based games right?
