Its as easy as it sounds, list your ps2/gc/xbox collections for others to rate and review (on a scale of 1-10 please) based on their own opinions on the viarity and interestingness (lol, is that a word LOL ) of your collection.
You can review as many collections as you like, just be sure to quote the collections you review.
Lets turn this into a fun and interesting topic :)

One word: Why?

bargora
06-25-2003, 10:52 AM
Damn! Everybody's a little grumpy today, eh?

I'll give you that this sort of topic is coin of the realm at gamefaqs.com, but maybe if we handled it a little differently than "d00d I give it a 5 Summonr = teh suXx0r" it actually could be, well, at least interesting. And unless Joe shuts it down, I'd say "if you don't liek it, don't clik it".

Anyway I, for one, have no interest in reading a long undifferentiated list of games. So for one, I'd want to see the list broken down by genre. I divide my Playstation collection into Racing/Driving, Puzzle, Arcade, 2-D shooter, First-person shooter, RE-style (i.e., third person cinematic action, whether survival horror or not), 3rd-person shooter, etc. I can get away without further subdividing Racing/Driving because I don't have many of them. Other people have different divisions, I'm sure. There are many schemes like it, but this one is mine.

And I'd see the major point of this exercise being not simply to give a back-patting "9" or ego-crushing "3" (fun as that is), but to point out what other games might be good to get, considering what the person already has in the collection and likes. So it would be a good idea to somehow indicate what your favorite areas are, if it's not bleedingly obvious from what you own already.

So, I'll bite. (Some may say I already do.)

Xbox (* = "I liek", # = "havetn palyed", % = "teh suXx0r"):

Driving:
Chase: Hollywood Stunt Driver #

3-D Platform:
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee

Survival Horror:
Silent Hill 2 #
The Thing #

FPS:
Halo *
Serious Sam *
Timesplitters 2 %

3PS:
Gunvalkyrie *

Vehicle Shooter Sim:
Steel Battalion **

I must confess that if I were to list only the games that I've played for more than an hour, you'd eliminate everything but SB, GV, SS and Halo. And 95% of my Xbox play has gone into SB so far. I liek teh robots.

I don't like Timesplitters 2, but I think that's 20% because of aesthetics and 80% because I really really really suck at it (and for some reason it doesn't make me want to get good at it). Serious Sam and Halo are fun, though.

I heard that Chase sucks the chrome off bumpers, but it was cheap ($8). Besides. I'll be the judge of that. At this point I haven't even booted up Chase, SH2, or Thing yet. But like most player/collectors, "I'm planning to get around to it!"

Well since Wario World is on the list, I think it's safe to assume that there are some exceptions to the rules. If a game is geniunly thought of to be 'crap' then assume it's one of the cheap games LOL.

Sadlly, I will be unable to get a complete Gamecube collection if Backyard Wrestling is released for the system. I do not support backyard wrestling and I will not own a game that endorses it.

Charlie, I rate your collection a big fat stinkin' 0. Ze-ro. That's because I didn't read it, of course, but it's just too big. C'est la vie. Er, I mean, freedom freedom freedom. Your alphabetical arrangement does nothing for me. <dismissive wave of hand>

Besides, it's a lot easier to read the d00derz' collections at gamefaqs.com because usually the entire collection consists of:

Breath of Fire III
Breath of Fire IV
Chrono Cross
FFVII
FFVIII
Suikoden
Suikoden II
Wild Arms
Wild Arms 2

or some variation on the theme.

Hereby I announce bargora's Playstation rule: No Playstation collection without "Hello Kitty's Cube Frenzy" will ever be rated above a 4.

On reflection, I think the reason R-Type's level 5 boss consistently squashed me last night is because I suck. Either
1) I can't dodge the boss's vicious "rocks", because I suck, or
2) I die shortly before the boss, because I suck, and so I arrive in a not-very-powered-up state, which makes it so difficult to kill the boss that I can't, because I suck.

I think I always wound up shooting those rocklike blobs that the Level 5 boss is encased in. I figured out exactly how long I needed to charge my shot meter to have a blast capable of destroying a blob, and I just fired over and over into the mass of rock-things. The behavior of the boss also varies; sometimes it'll hang back and make it easier to shoot, while on other occasions it'll chase you, forcing you to dodge around its top or bottom.

And I must confess that I can't one-credit R-Type either. Level 6 slaughters me.

I was trying to shoot the rocklike blobs! Really! Even if it didn't look like it because I was too busy running into them! I wonder if one of the regular power shots (like the colorful circles shot, whatever the hell it's called) might work as well as or better than the charge shot? I'm still in the process of determining minimum charge to kill a rockblob, though, because of reason 2) listed above. I'm just lucky to have a half-way powered force orb most of the time.

I can hardly wait for Level 6. "Ve velcome zees challenge."

Speaking only for myself, mostly the latter. Also, there are surely many collectors here whose game lists would, if posted, be longer than the latest Harry Potter novel. Who wants to wade through all that and then "rate" it? My fiancee's six-year-old nephew is going through a "rating" phase ("From 1 to 10, how much do you like orange juice?"), and that's what this thread reminds me of. Better to look at the Room of Doom pictures for much more succinct and enjoyable summaries of other games' collections.

Yeah, z, I have to confess that I've got no idea how to go about "rating" a collection, and I have no desire to read a big alphabetical list. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I might try to wade in if the list were broken down by type of game, but I freely admit that I have no idea which sports, driving, platforming, or RPG games are good or crap.

So I guess it takes someone both more knowledgeable and opinionated than I am. But I'd give orange juice a solid 8!

All I know is that butta's collection smells like...

Re: Backyard wrestling...

There are a couple of ways to look at backyard wrestling, and they're both rightfully negative. First, there's the appreciation of the process that's lost. The casual observer may not be convinced of it, but there's a whole lot of work that goes into becoming a performer and booking matches. Most of the kids that hit each other with sticks on their little sister's trampoline have no concept of what it really takes to create a wrestling product. That lack of honest respect is one cause of distaste for backyard wrestling, especially with professionals.

More importantly - and I think we'll all agree here - kids that are diving onto each other from their rooftops are morons. Anyone involved in wrestling will tell you that while executing a certain move correctly is essential, it's even more critical to learn how to protect the other workers that you're doing the move on. Kids in their backyards don't care about that factor, and consequently, they're killing each other. It not only minimalizes the education wrestlers go through to learn all this stuff, but also casts an even darker shadow over wrestling than the public already sees. Backyard wrestling is immediately connected to all wrestling in media, public eye, etc. It gives it a lousy name - like it needs any help in this country. Of course, the WWE didn't help the situation by showing Mick Foley diving off his roof as a kid, but if any one of these kids had half a brain, they'd know to stay inside and enjoy the entertainment on tv.

That'll give you an idea why wrestlers like Charlie think it's worse than the plague.

</End Backyard Wrestling segment>

Yeah, as a wrestling fan from the old NWA days, I would agree with all of that. But if I was one game away from a complete GameCube collection... I think I'd just look the other way and give 'em my $50.

I'm no Columbo, or even Jessica Fletcher, but I believe that Charlie suffered an injury as a result of backyard wrestling. "Victim of the Tiger Driver '91" -- Tiger Driver being a wrestling move? -- is his current, uh, subtitle, and "Wheeled Warrior" was his former subtitle. I'm sure Charlie will correct me if I'm wrong, of course.

I agree with Charlie that Backyard Wrestling is a wretched game, incidentally, even if Paradox (they of Thrill Kill) is developing it.

I once checked out a tape of 'backyard wrestling' and I was mortified for a number of reasons.

1. The amount of violence. I was a pro wrestler (and might be again someday) for three years and I never once bladed myself. For those of you not in the know, there are two ways and two ways only for wrestlers to bleed. They either do it 'the hard way' which is legitmently get cut up, or there is the easy way... you take out a small razor blade from your wrist band or elbow pad and you cut yourself right above your eyebrow. I never once did that (of course, most heels don't need to bleed... we get to cause the blood :)), and the fact that these kids can't have fun without blading just sickens me beyond discription.

2. How bad they are at it. Most fans these days are smart and understand the mechanics of many common moves... the fact that these kids can't even do a vertical suplex correctly makes you wonder outloud why they move on to other moves like powerbombs. Speaking of the powerbomb, it seems to be the most popular move. Ironicly enough, it's the move they botch the most. My theory is that these kids are clearly trying to fight the moves off instead of fully giving themselves to their opponents. When you start to learn how to wrestle, the first thing that they teach you after you learn how to take a bump (learn to fall) is how to give yourself. How to shift your weight properly, how to make moves easier on your opponent... etc. These kids don't learn properly. I'm actually suprised that there are no confirmed fatalities from this stuff yet.

Again, I won't support it. It makes me sick that they're actually making a game about it, as if Pay Per Views, DVDs, T-Shirts, Videos, Infomercials, etc doesn't make it look glamorous enough. Pisses me off, because the only people they make look bad are the real pros.
