Well there's the new Zelda. And it looks like Zelda.

Control seems impressive.
I don't know, it's taking him way too long to do simple things. And it's definitely not 1:1, despite their repeated assurances that it is. The game looks good, but I want to play it with a normal controller.
Oobgarm
06-15-2010, 12:13 PM
I'd guess it's not 100% yet, but it does need some polish for sure. GameSpot's comments section are tearing the control apart.

It just took him ~20 shots to hit a spider...

I will admit, watching Miyamoto fail is hysterical.

The gameplay video looks good, at least.
carlcarlson
06-15-2010, 12:22 PM
Yeah the video looked good. My arms hurt a little just watching Link swing away though.
That bug thing that can pick stuff up is a cool new gizmo.

You've gotta be kidding.... Mario Volley...

And Activision doing it, eh? Still, that's a pretty big announcement, I hope they really honor the style and mechanics of the original.

Epic Mickey looks pretty awesome, and sounds good too based on the unique gameplay ideas.

New Kirby? Oh hell yes.
Holy crap, it looks incredibly fun.

06-15-2010, 12:44 PM
Yarn Kirby has to be the coolest thing I've seen this E3 so far...

06-15-2010, 12:47 PM
Metroid: Other M, looking awesome as expected.

Great, a Zelda where I have to flail like a retard to play it. Pass.
Kirby looks hot.
Gotta ask... why even mention Just Dance 2? Did anyone buy Just Dance 1?

06-15-2010, 12:50 PM
Oh crap, new sidesscrolling Donkey Kong!

It sold tons, they tout over a million, which I'm inclined to agree with. We had a tough time keeping it in stock there for a while.

That new DKC looked badass. Better than Metroid IMO. I was hoping for more of a side-scroller in Metroid.

Jesus Christ. Oh wait, it's the Wii and total shit sells like hot cakes. My bad.
And here it is.

+1. Love how a lot of these games are keeping the side scroller alive.
And now, the 3DS...

I hope they include the Virtual Boy on this 3D through history montage...

Donkey Kong Country is the best thing they showed hands down.
This 3DS is tricky. They can't really show the audience all that much because they'll lose the 3D trick, which is kinda the point.

I don't know why they didn't show a video of Dragon Quest 9 while talking about it. It's like. Hey here's DQ9, look at our other games now.
Metroid the Other M, Kirby's Epic Yard, and Donkey Kong Country look really good. Epic Mickey probably would have looked good if the guy playing didn't suck at video games.
I'm also skipping the DSi and getting the 3DS now.
Kid Icarus looks cool.
*edit*
Alright Iwata. Stfu. It's 12:06. We've seen the 3DS, it's time for Sony's press conference. Gtfo.

Why are the two screens different sizes on the 3DS? It looks a bit awkward.
portnoyd
06-15-2010, 01:00 PM
Top screen seems to be going for widescreen ala the PSP. It's the one with the 3D so I guess they thought it might be looked down upon for not being widescreen like all the 3D Tvs are.
carlcarlson
06-15-2010, 01:00 PM
Having the dpad in the lower left corner looks more awkward than the difference in screen size.
portnoyd
06-15-2010, 01:01 PM
So like, they release the XL and then they shrink it back to DS Lite size? Am I seeing that correctly?
Oobgarm
06-15-2010, 01:02 PM
Oh My God Kid Icarus

06-15-2010, 01:02 PM
Kid Icarus 3D. Win!

Three cameras, motion sensor, gyrothingamabobber, 3D. $200 or less? Maybe?
EDIT: Kid Icarus, wtf

Star Fox + Zelda = Kid Icarus?
grolt
06-15-2010, 01:03 PM
So now why can't Sega revive Alex Kidd or Wonder Boy?
TonyTheTiger
06-15-2010, 01:05 PM
I understand the top screen being widescreen. What I don't understand is why the lower screen isn't as well. One of the DS's neatest features was when the two screens worked together to form a single image or game world. Doing that with two different screen sizes will be odd.
What I like is that they realized something about glasses-free 3D. It requires the viewer to be strictly positioned. In a movie theater or in front of a TV that creates a problem. But since people generally keep a handheld right in front of them, and usually only one person looks at it at once, they can get away with it without much issue.
portnoyd
06-15-2010, 01:06 PM
Width concerns, possibly. Also, I don't think two screens to form one image is of any concern this go around.
Oobgarm
06-15-2010, 01:10 PM
I had no interest in 3DS, until they listed these titles:
Kingdom Hearts
Metal Gear Solid
and
PROFESSOR LAYTON!
I'm tiring of these yearly system updates, but they may have me here.

06-15-2010, 01:10 PM
+ Cats! Whoopity doo. Still will sell hojillions. Nintendo will continue to print money.
portnoyd
06-15-2010, 01:12 PM
Christ, if they seriously get all these on the 3DS, the PSP2 is pretty much DOA.
EDIT: Assuming the 3D function doesn't blow anus.

06-15-2010, 01:14 PM
So far no games on the 3DS interest me but Kid Icarus. Also. Didn't realize times were PDT :P. I also agree about the stupidity of two different screen sizes.

Don't bother with e3.nintendo.com. I've been watching a bit, and it's just interviews hosted by an old woman.
Yeah, they've taken casual to the bank, all right.
NayusDante
06-15-2010, 01:28 PM
There's actually not as much casual stuff as last year. This has been the strongest press conference I've seen in a long time.
grolt
06-15-2010, 01:29 PM
The difference between this conference and M$'s is that Nintendo had a lot of games to show. They too focused on some new technology, but the games themselves were diverse, fresh and found ways to bolster franchises with new gameplay options. With M$ it was all more of the same with its big IPs, and then a bunch of clunky Kinect demos. Everyone thought the Wii was losing steam, but with that slate of first-party titles coming out, I don't think anyone has to worry. And yeah, vintage gamers have a lot to be excited for, too.

06-15-2010, 01:29 PM
Indeed, this year looks good for Nintendo gaming, and the future beyond (Notice the Arwing in the 3DS's video demonstration they showed.) Zelda may not be coming out this year, but with everything else, it makes up for it.

I have been waiting so long for another DKC. The moment has finally come. Easily the highlight of the show for me. It was an excellent conference overall and Nintendo is truly ahead of the pack this time.

Not sure what you watching, they're talking about (not showing) Zelda Skyward Sword at the moment.
NayusDante
06-15-2010, 01:35 PM
I'm excited about Zelda, but it doesn't look really different from what we've seen before. The art style looks neat, and I feel like we're back on SNES again, but we've played Zelda before. It's not disappointing by any means, but I just think we might be ready to change the formula a bit more.

06-15-2010, 01:39 PM
Very cool art style on the new Zelda. Kind of mix between Twilight Princess's realism and Windwaker's cel-shading. A real slick look.
FYI: There's an all black version of the 3DSi...thank god. Didn't really like the two-toned version on the stage.
Swamperon
06-15-2010, 01:44 PM
The crowd reaction to Zelda seemed much more muted when compared to Twilight Princess's reveal. Looks... interesting, the trailer wasn't particularly 'epic'. Hopefully the control issues were just down to interference.
Kirby looks sweet. 3DS looks awesome, if the 3D effect actually works then this could be a day one purchase. Price was never mentioned though. Kid Icarus is a definite must buy. Nintendogs + Cats will be a system seller.
Also no mention of Wii Vitality or Pokemon Black & White? Nintendo always seems to quietly ignore the Pokemon series.

Chocobo Racing. That's my favorite kart racer. I'd probably pick that up.
Also. Is the 3DS backwards compatible and is the ability to turn 3d off available?
NayusDante
06-15-2010, 02:12 PM
They never gave the specs of the 3DS. Is it really the Tegra powering it? What's the screen resolutions?
I love the DS, but the resolution has always hurt 3D gaming on it.

From what I've heard it's supposed to be backwards compatible. It should be easy for them to add the ability to turn off the 3D, they would either completely shut down one of the "eye views" or probally copy what the other one is displaying...or you could close one of your eyes or wear an eyepatch.LOL
TonyTheTiger
06-15-2010, 03:12 PM
They said you could control the 3D effect. Toggling it anywhere between maximum effect to completely off. I'm expecting something akin to a volume control.
YoshiM
06-15-2010, 03:13 PM
I didn't watch the whole thing but caught the part on the 3DS. Was mildly interested (3D screen, analog slide...ok, two cameras in front...that's pretty cool) but from the hardware I wasn't "Sold". Then Kid Icarus came on. My jaw hit the desk. Ok, Nintendo, NOW you have my attention!
As long as that sucker is DS compatible (which I'm sure it is), I will get one. If that's the potential-I'm very excited. If Animal Crossing is not just a backwards retread....it's a day one purchase.
Tupin
06-15-2010, 03:36 PM
Animal Crossing looks different, the art style makes the characters look smoother and taller.

That would make sense. It's effectively rendering 2 cameras. An analog control could move the virtual cameras closer or farther away to each other. At '0', the cameras would basically be the same and the 3D effect would completely go away.
I seriously doubt I'll be getting one any time soon but I am looking forward to demoing it at the store when it comes out.
Anyone have a link to the full press conference? Couldn't find one yet.

Annnnd aaaaaah Ocarina of Time is being remade for the 3DS!

There was so much that Nintendo didn't show/mention during their conference!
