The "Limited Edition" title may be more than just hype. It just sold out on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-All-Stars-Limited-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B0049DYNNO) (before it's even been released). I'm guessing if you're not on the ball and let this one slip by, it'll be a little pricey for the next few months. Definitely more than the $30 it's retailing for.

When All-Stars first came out they bundled the 3 previous releases together, added a then Japanese exclusive, and upgraded the graphics 1 generation better. At the time it would have well been worth the cost to buy it even at $60+. Since then 3 generations have passed, couldn't they have just rereleased All-Stars but upgraded the graphics to current generation? Forget converting it to 3D, just update the graphics more.

This isn't just a rerelease, it's supposed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. They could have done something special besides nice packaging and a soundtrack. Even if it would have been priced higher, they could have done something better than this. I actually like Nintendo but this stuff really bothers me, it just seems really cheap of them.

It would've been insanely awesome if they had upgraded the graphics to New Super Mario Bros. Level.

It's Mario. Nintendo isn't going to release it as a Limited Edition. That's nothing more than a sales tactic I'm sure. It'll still be selling years from now for the same price. Just like Mario 64 DS. They probably didn't expect so many people to want to purchase it so Amazon's launch date stock might be "random number here" and all that stock may have ran out.

Seems like Amazon.com already sold out. You can still order from Gamestop.com for $29.99.

Metroid Prime Trilogy was not limited in any way. It simply went out of production a few months after release and after roughly nine months, pretty much disappeared from retail with the exception of some Toys R Us and KMart locations which still have it. This game is very unlikely to be rare as many, many retail stores will be carrying it including Kmart which is giving away a $10 gaming coupon with purchase starting on release day. Amazon frequently sells out their allocation of collector's edition stuff prior to release, but they often restock right after release. Not saying that will happen here, but there are plenty of other outlets which are selling the game, so there should be no problem getting a copy.

This reminds me...

There is a store in Milwaukee that gets the Metroid Prime Trilogy very frequently in stock. They sell it for $27 before tax, which is about $1.50. I'd be happy to pick these up for anyone who really wants one. If you're going to pay in PayPal, it will be about $31 I think before shipping. I can ship them free with GOAT Store stuff, or for like $5.50 in Priority Mail.

Now back to the regularly scheduled Mario thread...

Yeah you're right, it went out of production, my bad. Weird, because Gamestop pretty much said to pre-order it or else you won't find one...either way can't wait to hear the soundtrack!!!

That's what Gamestop will tell you about EVERY release.

"Hey, you might wanna pre-order that Super Mario Galaxy 2, cause you might not be able to find it!"

"That Pokey-man game will be hard to find! It's not like Wal-Mart will be getting in pallet loads of them!"

"That 'Madden' game will probably be a sleeper hit... not too many retailers will have it!"

That reminds me of a time during last gen when I was in EB(now Gamestop) and I over heard the store clerk telling a customer that if he didn't preorder the latest Final Fantasy(it was either 10, 11 or 12) that he wouldn't be able to find it. I of course immediately chimed in to tell him and the customer how wrong he was and how AAA titles like that hardly ever sell out these days the way they did back in the 8 bit and 16 bit eras. But he still spout out his company line. But luckily the customer listened to me and didn't preorder it.

Yeah. They always do their sales pitch about how if you don't purchase the game now you'll never have a chance to pick it up later. What a load of bs. I remember Final Fantasy 12 limited edition was stacked across the counter and while I did preorder it, my bestfriend who got the game the same day I did didn't. I preordered it because I was going to be playing it on day one regardless and was giving the preorder sale to a friend of mine who worked at Gamestop.

Exactly, much how like 'Zelda: Collector's Edition' can be pretty easily be picked up in any second hand section for less than £/$20, despite never being available for commercial release.

Though I suppose with this one due to the extra items, condition of it will be everything (more so than usual with DP users ;) )

Went to GameStop (locally) to preorder it and was refused the preorder. I was told it was closed down because of super, limited release. Supposedly Nintendo was not going to release it, but GameStop, with their mylstical and godlike powers, forced Nintendo to release it. But that anyway, I was out of luck I even asked if I could do so online, and they told me it was impossible because preorders had stopped in all stores.

Then I went online and noticed that I could still preorder it. So I did. And it was accepted.

I love GameStop bullcrap. :)

How many copies was that though? I am hearing that most of the local Gamestops got 30 or more copies which covered pre-orders and who knows how many people will actually pick up? Also, I have heard that most TRU locations got 100+ units while Walmart and Target stores got a minimum of 30 per store. Not exactly that limited.

We received 16. Not saying it is going to be rare or anything, far from it, but I do think that it may be limited in regards to how many copies of a game Nintendo usually has pressed. If they are only doing a single run of the game than it could very wll be limited.

The only problem is that Nintendo never said they are only doing one run. That's something various websites added to the original Nintendo press release. All Nintendo said is that it would be available for a limited time. I guess we'll know for sure on Sunday, but considering Amazon is taking orders again and every major retailer is carrying it, there is no way this is going to be a rarity.

At least Nintendo is getting more than $8 for a game that could have been just released on the VC.

I was at TRU checking out some clearance and they had a scant 8 copies up on display. In the short time I was there, I noticed two people grab a copy. One was a mom pushing her kid in the carriage, who saw it and I overheard her say "Oh, I remember these games!" The other was a guy with two young kids, who called his wife right there on the cell phone and told her he found the "old Mario games, but we can play them on the Wii!"

Obviously this collection isn't really aimed at our audience; the guys who still have their SNESs hooked up and original boxed games... it's for the people who grew up playing those games, fell out of gaming for a while, only to get a Wii (for their kids or whatnot) later on.

Well, them and hardcore Mario fans. Like me. :)

Yea, I though there was going to be more than this.

At least Nintendo is getting more than $8 for a game that could have been just released on the VC.

I think Nintendo views it as follows:

Super Mario Brothers.... 500 points ($5)
Super Mario Brothers 2... 500 points ($5)
Super Mario Brothers 3... 500 points ($5)
Super Mario Lost Levels... 600 points ($6)

So in total it's 2,100 points, or $21. By adding a music CD and an artbook, they can justify adding 900 ($9) extra for packaging, which includes the games being pressed on a disc.

Sure, Nintendo can just charge say 1,000 points ($10) for Super Mario All Stars, but why not charge for each game separately and gain more profit? Even if the games are part of a SNES compilation cart?

It's a win situation for Nintendo.

This is all my opinion, though.

TRU is rolling in them and most stores received their quantities a week ago. National conference call stated that TRU was going to have mass quantities. You have to remember until 12/24 it's buy one get one 50% off all video game items, they purposely ordered very high.

Paying this much for a direct rehash of an old game that was a rework of even older games I don't understand. But hey, at least you actually own something this time as opposed to buying it as data if it was a VC title.

But those are the original NES versions... which this isn't.

I know. I don't think Nintendo really cares if they are remakes or not...possibly to them they are individual games (already available in the VC), so they might be possibly charging for each individually. Otherwise, we might have seen the compilation in the VC channel for much less. This to me makes me believe Nintendo is trying to make as much money as possible of the collection.

But like InsaneDavid stated...at least it's on a physical disc and not a VC title.

I want this even though I totally don't need it :(

I could always use the Club Nintendo coins.. (so close to platinum status)
