I was just wondering who here is from California. I myself am from an hour outside of San Francisco, in Cow Town. How about you other guys? Maybe we'll meet in person at CGE, and can get together our own show on the West Coast (sick of hearing about the Philly Classic simply because I can't get to it :( ).

I'd be totally up for getting together.

Sorry to barge in here....but I had this group bookmarked for some reason in my favorites, so I thought I'd pass it along...are any of you with the Southern California Classic Collectors? Though I live slightly north of your fine state, up here in Washington, I think their site has not been updated in a while, don't know if they are still active or not, might want to check it out.
We have an informal group up here called the Northwest Classic Games Enthusiasts, we meet about once a year and put together an Expo...usually in the early Spring, there are only about 5 of us...last meet had about 100 attendee's. We always tried to invite out-of-state collectors to come up (or down, if your in Canada) and join in the fun.
I think Joe (or somebody here at the DP site) needs to gather together a list of all the groups throughout the country that meet on a regular/informal/whatever basis and post it here on the site. At least those visiting would know if there are other collectors in their area and that gatherings were happening. The Keeper of the Old Games :) :)

The Southern California Classic Collectors (SC3) (http://www.classicgaming.com/sc3) group hasn't met for some time. We outgrew our old meeting places and we haven't found a better one yet. Plus our principal organizer (Geoff "Master of nicknames surrounded by quotation marks" Voigt) has been too busy to set up anything for a while. I think it's only a matter of time before we get another one going, though.
SC3 meetings aren't what you'd call an Expo... just a bunch of gamers meeting to swap carts and play games. But it's fun!
And to answer the thread's question... I'm in Newport Beach (OC).

Hey everyone;
Many moons ago we used have a group called BAVE (Bay Area Vedeogame Enthusiasts) that met bi-monthly to trade and play games... it kinda died off in '97 or so as a lot of people moved away and lost interest.
Now that there's a new crop of people, seems like it's time to pull the gang back together. I'd be willing to host and coordinate the first event if I could get an idea what headcount would look like. It would give me a great excuse to clear space around my arcade games :D
Let's keep this thread active and maybe plan for something in September, after things have cooled off from CGE?
P.S. I currently live in Hayward, will be moving to the Pleasanton/Dublin/San Ramon area in the next couple months. Both are easily accessible by BART.

I just moved to Orinda from Seattle. We'll be here for good. I'm looking forward to meeting more of the locals.
I made it to one of the later BAVE meetings, with Clint present, at John Earney's. I still am dying to get back the Rabbit Transit car that I traded to John, now in Marco K's hands.
Anyway, I'll be at CGE at the plaza as well. Perhaps we can work out a room party? Or something? If we can create a presence, in the future it might be a consideration to get a table and kick some proverbial ass. I don't really know how getting a table would allow us to do that, but it sounded good. For a brief moment.
Keep me in the loop! I love trade/game meetings. Now to find a location. Suburbs may be the only option, unless someone can come up with a cheap locale in the city. A house anywhere would work.

In addition to posting here, I'd like to get a mailing list set up for everyone so I can send out an announcement when the time comes (I'm thinking it's going to be mid to late September when this all falls together).
So, send me an e-mail at larry@digitpress.com, I'll add you to the list and send out a note when things are going to start moving.
In the meantime, we need a CONTEST. Start thinking about something cool to do and a cool prize to go with it!

It's right at the 10 and 710, and many of the possible rooms would be big enough for 200 + people But anyway, as soon as I thnk I can get a meeting going, school pulls me back in.... :beaten:

Also, should we bring food or something too?

Oct 18th Saturday, I work but Ill request it off if this BAVE gathering is going to take place. I live right in San Francisco and its easy to get to San Ramon thru the BART. If its a set date let me know and you can count me in for sure. Ive been searching for people in the Bay Area to talk about old games and Ive never found any. Now heres my chance to see fellow classic gaming geeks right in the Bay Area.

Yeah, we want to resurrect BAVE, but it's hard to find someone motivated and with space to dedicate their space. I think if someone just set a date, we'd do it, but the prime movers seem to be bogged down.
I'd like to host some time, but I can't really plan to be the first. I'll be happy if my game room is packed tight by CGE this year.
Larry has been falling into some kind of super busy netherworld. We haven't seen him around too much on DP or other. I'm sure he's busy. I wish someone would get it rockin' though. Some of us spend what little time we do have with CGE related affairs (not me, I'm a selfish bastard.)

Superbusy netherworld... I really like that analogy. I'm going to use that the next time my boss gives me yet another thing to manage!
The return of BAVE will happen (in San Ramon, where there are no cops to speak of, or they're all hanging around Bishop Ranch playing hoops, nowhere near my house), stay tuned for a date and an e-vite (sometime late January/Early Feb).
If the group has suggestions on more preferential dates, throw them out!

I'm a San Jose transplant to Reno, so I'd count myself a member of this group. I built my Mame cab in San Jose from an Atari machine that I think was originally a Black Widow or Tempest cab.
Anyhow, I grew up in the Golden Era, worked at the arcade in the student union at San Jose State University (SUGALAND) and owned a Sega Genesis.
I would love to be a part of a West Coast classic gamers club and you can consider myself a volunteer to help organize events. If folks were interested, I could even host events at my home. I have a 400 square foot game room. Southwest Airlines fly's to Reno from dozens of West Coast Locations for as little as $39. And of course, Reno is only a four+ hour drive from the Bay Area. There are thousands of really innexpensive nice hotel rooms here because of the gambling industry. Lots of great music and entertainment as well.
Please post feedback here if there is an interest. - Jeff

Chico has a ton of thrifts and many a gamestore around.
My favorite place to hunt is Red Bluff. My favorite thrift store ( gold exchange ) is hidden there plus a couple more. And on the weekends at the airport there is a nice little flee market thing.

or decent driving distance... heck, if you're out of state, you can come over too!
After my CGE recharge, and the fact that my game rooms are more or less done, I think it's time to throw the doors open to the locals and have a game day. I'll be inviting some guys from the office, so there will likely be a good mix of PC gaming, console goodness and classic arcades in the garage (remember some of the machines from CGE? Vindicators? Tapper? Defender? Yep, those were mine :))

Ok, it's time to do this like Brutus. I'm going to have a retro games get together soon. In my Garage I have a theater setup, with my 8 foot screen, and we can run whatever systems you want in RGB on that thing. Also, I have like 3 rgb monitors that I can have running, all with their own system, running in RGB. We can link up some Playstation 1's or whatever. Anybody that comes will get to see the main even of the night. The main event being Way of the Warrior in RGB on the 113 inch screen in 7.1 sound. Trust me, you ain't seen nothing like that.
Everybody should put all their trade bait in the trunks and we can even do some whealing and dealing. I'm guessing a Saturday would be easiest for everybody, and the event could last from like 3pm till later into the evening. Have a barbeque and just kick back and discuss crap. WHatever.
Anyways, I'm thinking sometime in August. Only thing is, it's super hot in Sacto, so that could be an issue. Well, anyways, we can eventually find a date when there is decent weather at some point.
Actually you know what, the weather could be a problem. Have to find a day when the highs are in the high 80's but not into the 90's. Because we have had birthday parties and stuff there when it was in the high 90's and even 100's and it's just freaking unbearable until like 9pm. So weather will be a factor, but if I can find a week when the weather is supposed to cool down, then I'll do it then.
If anybody would make the trip to Sacramento, let me know, this way I can gauge interest and plan it around the people that can make it. We can do one Summer gathering, and then do one in like September or October.
