I've always liked Pac-Man. I was never particularly good at it, but I've always liked it. This is probably the most accessible version of Pac-Man I've ever played, it's dumbed down a bit from traditional Pac-Man, but still challenging and fun. I particularly liked that you can pick between several different sprite models for Pac-Man and the ghosts between plays, I've had trouble in the past with home console versions having difficult to see sprites on brightly colored backgrounds.

Well after putting it to the side and clearing some other games out of the way, I came back to it and enjoyed it a lot more this time around.

Yakuza 3 on Hard mode. Now all that's left is EX Hard, mod a weapon, and open all the top lockers for this game to get a platinum. Very rarely do I actually attempt to go for a platinum, but Yakuza 3 and 4 are amazing games and worth putting the extra effort.

This is another game I'm in two minds about. On one hand, it's cute, lightly nostalgic and creative, all things I like. On the other hand, it's really boring, particularly after the 'wow, MODERN 8-bit awesome!' effect wears off. I don't know, maybe I'll learn to appreciate it better on subsequent playthroughs.

Another PC-FX game bites the dust, with this second one being the first system exclusive I've beaten. It's not going on any favorites lists of mine, but it's still a solid, enjoyable adventure game and definitely a nice addition for the relatively small library. Too bad the ending wasn't that satisfying, though. It was the usual anime FMV, but it felt much shorter than the one in Farland Story FX. Plus they layered some of the credits over part of it, which I suppose is cool in concept, but considering that the credits were in English and I wanted to read then, it was a pain trying to follow the FMV and read the credits at the same time.

Quick, easy and fun game. Didn't die once the entire way through. Were a little too many tank battles too. I did enjoy the Dragon Quest VIII references scattered throughout the game, too.

Probably my game of the year so far. I enjoyed this game so much. Ended up being harder than I expected, but that's okay. I was drawn into the story quite well and will probably play through a few more times to get different endings.

It's strange, this game isn't really hard, nor is it easy. It's slow paced enough that I can think about each of my actions beforehand, but it moves fast enough that I need to keep moving. It's like chunks of Contra were taken apart from the whole, made less difficult and then made a game all on it's own.

Blew through that one fast, but I'm not complaining at all. The 8-bit credits game was just great. Probably the most interesting thing in the game since everything else just feels like a rehash. I definitely intend to play the game a bit more, though, since I'd like to improve my scores and gather all the presents and cousins.

I'd played bits and pieces of this game a different times, but I never had the chance to sit down and do a full playthrough. Of all the Mega Man games I've played (in the original series), I'd rate this as one of the easiest and, oddly enough, one of the most fun. All the great music and epic boss introductions of the previous games, with addition of Protoman and (if you buy him) Bass. If anyone hasn't played this yet, I suggest jumping on the current PSN deal for it.

Thematic as all hell, but really frustrating to play. I found the controls particularly unresponsive during the various jumping/climbing parts. Still, really fun and an amazing way to portray this story. I'd say it's worth the money if you can find it for under $20.

Castlevania 2 any continues. Beat this a couple days after Yakuza 3, forgot to post.

Final Fantasy 4 the After Years. Overall, the game isn't very good, but for chapter 10, the game is definitely worth playing. Chapter 10 is the accumulation of all other storylines. If you finish the others and make sure you don't save over that data, it can all be carried over to this one.

So the first few hours of chapter 10 are just like the other chapters. Not that great. But the very last part of the game is one long dungeon. The dungeon itself plus the ending is almost 10 hours alone and by far the best part of the game. The dungeons are decent to traverse, not like those that you're just wanting to find the exit on the bonus areas of FF1/2/4, etc, as you'll be looking for the treasures which will be a lot of end game ultimate equipment. It's like an actual dungeon this time around. You'll fight multiple bosses from FF4 at first, then FF1, 3, 5, and 6. Omega is even walking around, much like how you'd find him at the end of the game on FF5(just out of the way this time so you can't run into him while going to the end of the game.)

So it's about a 25-30 hour long game, and it's only worth playing the last 10 hours(really worth playing the last 10 hours actually,) so the game really isn't good overall, but my opinion from it being complete garbage changed once playing the final chapter.

If any has read the little blurbs I write for my other beaten games, they might find that I have a strong hated for unresponsive controls. Well, this game is built on top of that very concept. Strangely enough, while this makes the game frustrating as all hell, it's still a fun game. Interesting story, fun characters and pretty cell shaded evironments makes for a pleasant experience. I can't say I recommend the game, but I would suggest borrowing it if you happened to know someone who had it (that's how I played it).

8/15 - Radiant Historia (DS) (time = 46:17; 183/236 events) I've been playing this one on and off since it's came out in Feb/March. Finally finished it up last week and thought it was brilliant. While it didn't hold my attention all the way through for some reason I still enjoyed it when I was playing it and the timeline thing was very handy in remembering past events and where I had left off.

8/2 - Deathspank Thongs of Virtue (PSN) Still fun, still quirky, but I didn't feel quite as entertained as I was with the first game.

7/29 - Final Fantasy III (SNES) (roughly 35 hours) I don't need to say anything about this one...it had been a few years since I played through it so it was time.

7/17 - King's Bounty Armored Princess (PC)(Normal; score = 615) I love everything about these games. I miss the crap out of the old Heroes combat sytem, especially after that series started going south. And King's Bounty brings back everything I loved about Heroes and ramps it up quite a bit.

52. Blue Toad Murder Files: The Mysteries of Little Riddle - Episode One

I figured that $1 would be a good price to test this series on. The game was made by the same people who make the Buzz! Quiz games and it shows. While funny and surprisingly fast paced, the game has a bad habit of treating the player like a fool. And the trophies are just lazy. Still, I enjoyed it and may pick up the other episodes in the set.

After 9 long years I finally acquired 100% completion in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. I initially got my copy not long after it achieved the Greatest Hits label and it went on to become one of my favourite games of all time. This is my second attempt at 100% with my first try coming in 2004/5 when I stopped around 89%. I wanted to go through the game without buying many if any cars (although only 1 car needs to be bought in order to get 100%, the TVR Tuscan Speed 6) and I wanted to minimize the number of in-game days towards 100%. I began by getting gold on all the license tests which allows one to win cars that often require no tuning and that are better than the bought counter-parts (such as the B license Miata LS).

It was a long and often fun ride, but I'm glad it's finally over.

I started this four or five months ago and it took me forever to complete. The battle system just didn't do it for me. I couldn't stand it. What kept me playing was the beautiful pre-rendered backrounds, amazing CGI, and the soundtrack. The story wasn't great. The characters... I don't even want to talk about that bunch.

Normally I don't care for games like this. In fact, the last game of this type that I willingly played was Advance Wars. And for reasons I can't put my finger on, I found Shining Force more interesting. I'm honestly not sure why. The game is pretty, but not stunning, the music isn't anything special (although it is plesant) and the story isn't really all that compelling. Oh, I know. Strategy RPG just isn't my thing. Well, not any more. There was a time when I loved playing them, but something just clicked in my brain one day I just haven't had a taste for them since.

I've actually been listening to the OST on Youtube since I posted that and it is rather good. I originally wrote that note about the music when I was half way through the game and I'm currently trying to remember what it was that made me think that. It could have just been my increasingly cynical mind at work.

This surprised the hell out of me when I first loaded it up. I wasn't expecting a Zelda clone, but that's what I got. And it's actually really fun. The game does have an issue with not telling you where to go or naming a vast majority of the locations, aside from 'temple to the south' or some such. This shouldn't be that big of an issue, really, the orginal Zelda did the same. But I found that the vauge locations given to each place were a tad too vauge, given that there is more than one 'temple to the south' and, more often than not, it didn't mean the temple directly to the south of my current possition. Exploration can be a bitch.

I was really impressed with this, the game was ported to the 3DS so well. You lose the movement in the backgrounds of the fights, but the characters still look good and the game played great on the 3DS. Very impressive port, gives me a lot of hope for other fighters on the 3DS.

Another spur of the moment kind of thing. I just got Puyo Puyo Sun 64 today, and I beat both the easy and normal difficulty levels. Even though it's only three battles, the easy mode gets credits, but it's just a gag since they blow through them lightning fast. For normal mode, I took nearly 50 continues since I overall stink at Puyo Puyo, haha. It's fun enough that I kept going until I squeaked by every battle. I didn't beat the bonus Carbuncle fight at the end, which you only get one attempt at, so I don't know if that affected the ending, but, whatever, I beat the game either way. :P

This addition isn't quite accurate. I actually beat Dragon Warrior II more than a week ago, but I've been pretty busy lately and when I realized that the ending was in the same style as the original, in that you can wander the entire world and read new dialogue congratulating you from everybody, I knew I didn't have enough to do that then. And, unfortunately, it doesn't allow a temp save after beating the boss, so I had to do the two fights all over. I was level grinding here and there in bits of my free time just for the fun of it, though, so I got all of the characters to their max levels and beat the bosses again no sweat. Anyway, it did indeed take a long time to trek around the whole world, but I finally talked to everybody and saw the full ending, so up it goes on the list.

This also marks my completion of the Dragon Warrior I & II compilation on GBC, since I beat the original earlier this year.

Just beat Gears of War 3. I will be going back to beat it on insane difficulty in co-op. It was definitely worth the $60 gift card I spent on it thru Amazon.

I remember this game being advertised when it was new. It was supposed to be this amazing game that pulled fighters together from across time & space to battle it out for..something or other. Never got a chance to sit down with it. Well, I've never really been into fighting games, but I enjoyed this. It's simple. That's the best way I can put it, it's just..simple. It's not as complex as any other fighting game I've played before and it really works in it's favor.

56. Virtua Fighter 2

I will state again that I'm not really into fighting games. Which, I'm thinking, is why I'm not getting what so special about this game. It plays like every other fighter I've seen and actually comes across as a tad boring in contrast.

57. Ecco Jr.

The one thing that made the other two Ecco games suck so hard was the difficulty. Basically, Ecco Jr. is a normal Ecco game, with all of the pretty backgrounds and decent music, but without the ball busting difficulty. I actually quite enjoyed this. Granted, it's little more than a giant game of hide-and-seek, but that's still more enjoyable than the other two games in the trilogy.

I wasn't expecting another Zelda-type game, but I'm pleased to find out. This game is rather slow paced and it's not very good at giving directions (I'm finding this disturbingly common with games like these that aren't Nintendo made/published). Cute story, sometimes scary boss fights and a decent challenge to boot.

Another LSD funfest. I found this one a tad easier than the first game, maybe having something to do with the game being slower to my eyes. I don't know that it actually is, but it just seemed like I had an easier time tracking things across the screen than in the first go around. In any case, this is a great game with the same trippy visuals and sounds the first one came with.

60. Alien Soldier

0_0 Wow. This was fucking awesome. Rocking music as I blow up everything and anything that moves, phasing through enemies just so I can plant my boot in their ass, this is the kind of thing fans of Gunstar Heroes keep telling me that game is like. Well, screw you, I've got it right here. Alien Soldier is also the first game to make me break an old habit. Normally, my first playthrough a game will always be on the lowest difficulty setting. But this...I was actually finding it way too easy on the lowest difficulty (but still awesome), to the point that I stopped a quarter of the way through, reset and kicked the difficulty up as high as it would go. I kinda felt like I owed the game that. It's like Contra, in that, yeah, the highest difficulty is going to throw you on the ground and kick you in the ribs, but it's monumentally awesome at the same time if you know what you're doing. And what's doubly funny is that I normally suck out loud at games like these, which is part, I think, of why I found it so awesome. I'm thinking the difference with this one compared to anything else like it is I knew nothing about it and it outright captivated me right from the get go. It's been a long time since a game has completely 100% immersed me in the experience.

A nice little middle-of-the-road 3D platformer. I can see why it was successful in its time for its particular platforms, but I can also see why Croc is basically forgotten these days. Boy was getting 100% lame, though. Basically no reward at all. Actually, my file still says 96%, which seems to be a problem that some people have. I don't know if it's a glitch or what, but I definitely did get everything. The game even says that you've cleared the game 100% when you beat the secret final boss.

I liked how it was pretty much a piss easy game with quick leveling (or maybe all that was due to me having insomnia and pretty much blasting through a majority of the game in a single night). I don't like how the game gives little direction on where it wants me to go and only a hint of what it wants me to do. I guess it was pretty fun, though.

64. Crack Down

Reminds me of Alien Syndrome, only fun to play. Had a little trouble getting used to switching between the map and the action, despite both being on the same screen. It's like watching something dubbed in English for the first time, you just have to get used to it.

At first, I was sure I wasn't going to like it, what with it's odd controls. I adjusted quicker than I thought I would. Really interesting story and a surprisingly short game. I think I'd recommend this.

I got the Sarah ending when I beat Beggar Prince. Despite a handful of bugs I encountered, I'd recommend playing it. Interesting story, fun gameplay, colorful graphics and nice sound.

Since there are different endings, I'll play this again soon ;)

That was quick. On my second session with Bonk, I beat the game without even using a single continue. Pretty easy game overall. I had a reserve of about 8-10 lives for most of the game. Really fun stuff, though, and the ending was cute. :) Looking over my list, I see that this was the first TG-16/PC Engine game I've played through all year, so about time I suppose. I gave some attention to its unloved younger brother the PC-FX, but I couldn't very well go a whole year without paying attention to what I'd probably say is my second favorite 16-bitter.
