Okay, a couple weeks ago I saw a craigslist ad for 55 issues of Nintendo Power for $15.00. There wasn't a picture or any real specifics, only that they were older issues. The post date was pretty old but I figured what the hell and e-mailed the seller but never heard back. After a week I figured they already sold and forgot about it.

Then the seller contacted me and said he still had them and was checking if I was still interested. We set up a meeting earlier in the week for Saturday afternoon and earlier today I picked the magazines up.

I figure if anything I'm looking to fill the gaps in the issues I have. Over the years of reading some of my issues simply fell apart and degraded into trash, so I'm always looking for replacements. Additionally I would cut things out of them from time to time and of course attempt to remove the posters.

As for the issues I picked up today, the newest issue is #60, so they're all within the era I'm interested in. I would say condition varies from very good to on the way to the trash. Five or so of the issues are missing a lot of pages so those went into my girlfriend's scrapbooking pile. A handful of the earlier issues are missing their covers, which is common since many of my issues from around then suffer the same condition. Worst case of the issues I kept might be missing the first page and the last page, but that's like one or two issues. About half of the issues have maybe one or two things cut out of them, usually game titles from the listings near the back - I guess they were cut out to be glued onto a wishlist or something similar. All the classified information columns are in tact though, something I would cut out of a lot of my issues. LOL A few posters were spared and pretty much all of the bundle in guides (merchandise catalog, SMB2 Inside Out, Dragon Warrior guide, Classified Information directory, etc.) are in place and perfect. There were a couple duplicate issues but they were in the junk pile, and a pair of the 4-Player Extra guide... isn't this like the most common NP issue ever? LOL

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2011-01-08%2801%29.jpg

All in all, I'd say I came away with 45+ issues that I need to catalog and compare with what I already have to see what I'm keeping. I don't think I'll replace any of mine, just keep the matching issues out of this lot as counterparts if they are in better shape.

What I was psyched to find among the lot are the first six issues, all in really nice condition and complete with the exception of a tiny title cutout here or there near the end of a couple of the later issues.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2011-01-08%2802%29.jpg

Woohoo, the first four of these are new additions since years ago my subscription began with the Ninja Gaiden issue. I really can't beat $15.00 for everything. :) That Track & Field II cover is still my all time favorite NP cover.

Really nice find InsaneDavid. I have a question for you too. How often do you reply to craigslist postings where the seller never bothers to contact you back? I've quickly learned to hate craigslist because 3 out of the 4 times I reply to a posting the seller never responds back, and the listing still sits there for weeks...

Quite a bit, people are usually just lazy. I'm trying to conserve some cash right now so I haven't been on craigslist too often but it's a common occurrence.

LOL I actually first contacted the seller back on 12/29/10 and I think the posting was already about to expire. I didn't hear back until 1/4/11 and he wanted the exchange on 1/8/11. So the whole thing came as a surprise that it went so smooth, especially that the designated pick up location was like 5 minutes away from me.

Nice pickup on that Gunstar Heroes, Atarileaf.

Dang, nice Gunstar Heroes!

Went to 3 thrifts on Sunday and these were all I found, and all were at the first/closest, so it felt like a big waste afterwards.

Silent Thunder is sealed and was 2.80
Nox for some reason I thought was worth a bit, oops. Guess it'll go in the collection. Is it a good game, at least? it was 1.80
The 1943 handheld is pretty cool to find new in its package for 3.80. Has a Kaybee price sticker hand written at 9.99. Also, Kaybee recommends Panasonic Alkaline batteries!
Also got a couple new Canon printer inks I thought I needed, but don't. Le sigh.

And then this came today...

28.98 from a seller on Amazon. I've been watching the used page at amazon for weeks (months) since a lot of people had been getting this game there from Amazon Warehouse Deals for pretty cheap, but never saw them get below about $55. This showed up the other day listed in Like New condition (nothing else stated). I rushed to get it and was afraid I'd be too late, but checked out just fine. Came today and while it isn't *really* like new, it is pretty damn good and I can't complain.

Delivery was attempted on my Pier Solar, but my carrier was still not back yet at 5.50 when I went to the PO, so I'll have to go again tomorrow.

I need a really good find - I'm getting depressed...
I haven't found anything good in a while, so don't feel like you're alone. On December 31st I went thrifting and found pretty much most stores had lines of cars at the donation areas, since everybody wants to get in that last tax deduction before the year's out. I had hoped that would result in some nice stuff in the stores, but I still haven't found anything. Maybe all the indie stores have started putting anything they think might be valuable on eBay, so the good stuff isn't hitting the shelves.

Okay lot sale again this morning....

In what was literally a box of VCRs and crappy DVD players I spied something with the Nakamichi logo and nearly had a heart attack as I reached for it. I WISH it was a cassette deck (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvSgfFNptuQ) but it ended up being a Nakamichi "Stasis" stereo receiver, model TA-4A. The TA 4A brings a solid $200+ on eBay so I'm very happy.

Other than that I grabbed a HUGE Sound Blaster box for some older card. When I opened it I almost had another heart attack as it was full of early 90s PC game boxes. I opened the boxes and they were all empty :(. I did snag the box/papers for Full Throttle for my game.

Anyways, that's it. I think it's been an eventful morning for me anyway.

Today I returned the ever-crappy Kinectimals (a Christmas present to the family from friends) to Movie Trading Company and got this stuff in its place:

Mutant League Football (Genesis) - box and cart, missing manual (dangit)
Q*Bert (Atari 5200) - box, insert, and mint cart, but missing manual (dangit)
Mario Bros. (Atari 5200) - loose
Pac-Man (Game Gear) - loose

I got back some cash as well, and I'm much happier with these games than Kinectimals...

Today was a good day! First, I went to toy/collectibles shop and found two Tales of the Abyss One Coin Grande figures for $7.99 each. I got Jade Curtis and Tear Grants. I'm quite impressed by the detail of the figures.

Then I went to my favorite game shop to trade in a bag full of the games and DVDs I never played/watched anymore. I ended up getting 80 bucks cash for it all, which paid for the TotA figures. I also bought a used copy of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn for $20. And I still have $40.00 left for future frivolous purchases!

CDs were $1 each unless otherwise noted:

V/A - Fantastic Four Soundtrack (new)
Skye - Mind How You Go (new)
Junior Wells' Chicago Blues Band - Hoodoo Man Blues
Oni (PC game) - $2
V/A - Nightmarish Melodies (this contains Yakety Yak... how is that a nightmarish song?)
Reel Big Fish - Why Do They Rock So Hard? (Promo version - I already own this, but the CD is busted... hello replacement!)
Carlos Gardel - 20 Temas (brand new)
Ultimate Band game soundtrack (brand new - already own it, this is going to the trade pile) - $1.50
Sixpence None The Richer - The Best Of
Office 2000 Standard - $1.50

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/dp-2011-01-12b.jpg
Sherlock Holmes DVD in a horrible "recyclable" DVD case - $1
Jumping Flash ridged cardboard longbox (very damaged case, MINT disc) - $2!

Now for a story: I got to the booth where I usually buy CDs from and as I was picking out stuff, some guy approaches him and tells hm he wants to buy every CD he has. The owner wants $60, he counters with $40. They keep going on and on until they reach an agreement and I'm barred from picking out any more CDs. :( I managed to get the Office 2000 CD at least, but dammit. I got there ten minutes too late. >_<

On the other hand, I did get a deal from that same guy on thirteen brand new copies of "Command and Conquer Saga", which bundles Command and Conquer The First Decade + Command and Conquer 3. I paid $60 for all copies... and there's a "collectible" copy on Amazon for $50. The lowest this sells for on eBay is $25. Um, yay. :D

Had another mini heart attack today at the lot sale when I saw these stuck in a box of worn out 45s and cassettes of terrible music nobody wants. I was charged $1 a piece for them. QuickBooks Pro 2001 was bought for resale, it has all the papers and everything needed to use it (The last QuickBooks software I has was '04 I think... Sold it for $25 and it was the Home Business version, and before you say anything I've found that the old versions of this software do, in fact, sell.). The "Flash of doom" is on "Great Naval Battles Vol. 4" by SSI (on CD) and King's Quest V is on 5.25". All other games (including the Lucasarts Classic Adventures) are on 3.5".

I'm very happy, I got a lot of PC gaming goodness this morning.

I thought it was another work project until I saw the note. It was one of those contest were you have to download a free registration gamerpic(which takes about 8 seconds) and then either download eligible content(which I never do because thats not free) or play multiplayer in eligible games. For this contest it must have been playing either Halo Reach or Modern Warfare 2.

They're suppose to send you an email confirmation when you win stuff but I never got one so I was quite pleasantly surprised when I received my mail today.

Yesterday from SA I grabbed the Genesis High Seas Havoc, Mac Escape from Monkey Island, and the PC Bioshock/Oblivion pack (new). Total = $4.80.

The rest was from another thrift and was a total of $15.66.
The Game Boy game is F-1 Pole Position, which seems to be pretty hard to find. Can't find any reference, but I doubt it is actually worth much. Guide says R4, but there aren't any completed listings on ebay at all, so seems R4 is maybe low. I don't know much about GB collecting, though. Anyone actually know?
Picked up the Original Baldur's Gate Big Box complete because I just couldn't stand to see it continue to rot on the shelves there, getting beat up more and more. And it was like 2.40 - 25%. I already have my original beat up set from when it came out and another in very nice shape, so I guess I'll see if anyone wants to buy this one. The box is beat up and the discs scratched (because of that stupid sleeve they came in), but the other stuff looks untouched.

I finally bought a pair of Adidas Adicolor BL4 Stan Smith II TRON sneakers from 2006. Was from an eBay auction, in good shape, minimal wear, and most importantly my size (11.5). When these hit the market I was broke on my ass and never had a chance to go after a pair even when they were being marked down. Not anymore. :)

Left shoe, left side: TRON rezzing up his lightcycle.
Left shoe, right side: pair of recognizers, including the one Flynn reconstructed.
Right shoe, left side: CLU's game tank.
Right shoe, right side: Sark going up against an arcade patron in their lightcycles.

Awesome, right? That's not all though, there's an image of a conscript's face on the sole of each shoe...

All in all, they cleaned up really nice (there was a little wear where it looked like something was spilled on one of the sneakers) and I can't wait to wear them at California Extreme 2011.

One of my friends had tickets for Star Trek Live (Google it, odd little show), and there were some vendors at the theater. Amongst the stands selling bootleg DVDs (the cool bootlegs, as in out-of-print stuff and concerts), there were the usual guys selling comics, models, and random stuff. Found this for $4, something I've been wanting for quite a while. It's that Final Fantasy V sequel OVA. I used to ogle the copy at Suncoast when I was a kid, not wanting to spend $30 on it. Looks like it's in pretty good shape, with the slipcase and all. This is the dubbed version

Well, I did have a good finds this past week...but it's been rendered moot by something happening within hours of purchase.

- Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP. Used in near mint condition; missing oversized box and soundtrack CD): $15

After passing it up last year, shortly after getting my PSP, I finally found another copy of it (My urge to find a copy going up after I got hooked on Persona 3 FES) and sold off the copy of Phantom Brave I got as the free game during Gamestop's B2G1 sale back in December to knock down the price a little bit. Convenietly, I come home after buying it to find my cat had knocked my PSP off my desk; breaking it's battery door completely and messing up the Square button worse than it already was (It was already pretty worn down from plaing the original Prinny, but it really didn't need a good 4 foot fall with a rough landing onto a wooden floor).

So, not only did I finally find a copy of Persona and my copy of Prinny 2 arrived earlier in the week, but my stupid cat had to go and kill my PSP before I got a chance to play either one.

They have some videos for both Phat Strad and Bond on YouTube.

JY

I opened them and listened to both last night... I uh... didn't like them very much. I mean, they're OKAY, but... not my thing. Oh yeah, Hendrix on Cello is trippy, and not in a good way. :P

Anyway, I only bought one thing today: The Virgin Suicides film score by Air, brand new, for $2. There was one booth that had several comic book TPBs I'm missing but the damn booth owner never showed up so I went home. :(

Today I found my biggest find in a long time. I found a complete boxed copy of Chubby Cherub for NES. The box is a little beat up, but considering the game is 25 years old it looks pretty good.

Well, my issue involving a PSP has been fixed as of lunchtime.

- Sony PSP (3000 model. New): $125

I was able to take in my old PSP in for a little bit of money toward a replacement (Turning a profit even after what was subtracted for a refurbish fee; seeing as I only paid $20 for the previous one), and stacked with a coupon for $5 off any purchase, I was able to get my replacement. It's all pretty and sparkly, and lets me get back to playing Disgaea 2 among other games.

Nice find on the CIB Chubby Cherub! Where did you find it and how much was it?

I spent the last few days in West Lafayette, IN visiting Purdue University with my daughter…can you brag on your kids in a brag post? She was awarded a Trustee’s Scholarship and invited to a Scholar’s Day at the School…great kid. Anyway, while she and her mom took a nap between sessions, I checked out the local thrifts and used game stores…didn’t find anything great, but definitely enough to make the trip worthwhile:

http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/2028/purdue.jpg

At a few local used stores, the rarer stuff was priced accordingly, but I found some good hole fillers between $1.99 and .99…happiest about the 3 additions to my game gear collection. Then a nice mix of stuff from Goodwill….an original Gameboy in nice shape, $3.99…a mini RC MarioKart Yoshi, $4.99…a mini toy Mac desktop with an LCD screen that shows an astronomy report in progress, $1.99…a boxed MegaMan figure from BigLots, $1.99…and a sealed 2600 Yar’s Revenge, $2.99. Boiler Up!

After finding almost nothing today, I did finally come across these PS1 games. The discs are all there and pretty close to mint, but the cases are damaged, especially Parasite Eve. That case has to go. The back side has chunks missing.

The Genesis looking plug-and-play is some kind of Sonic game which I haven't tried yet since I had to charge up some AA batteries. The handheld is by Tiger Electronics, and has a sort of Astrosmash theme, shooting asteroids before they hit the ground. The LEDs light up little graphics behind the background, and it has voice samples (that were almost inaudible since the batteries that came with it were nearly dead).

Here's what I've gotten in the month of January so far.

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy211/Jasonb1983/Finds/P1070028.jpg

Okay these aren't really finds, just various import Mega Drive games I bought on ebay. Prices averaged around $12.00 each.

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy211/Jasonb1983/Finds/P1070029.jpg

These were left over sealed GBA games at a local Micro Game that I decided to pick up. MMBN 5 was $10.99, MMBN6 was $12.99, and Shining Force was from eBay to replace my cart only copy.

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy211/Jasonb1983/Finds/P1170029.jpg

Now for a little story. These eight Gameboy games, which are Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Taz-Mania, Fortified Zone, Pokemon Gold, Tetris, Tetris Plus, Tetris Attack, and Solomon's Club, are the keepers from a Gameboy lot on craigslist I picked up this weekend. The lot was for 16 games, a Gameboy Camera, a GBC, and a GBA SP with charger all in a 3rd party case for $30. I have no need for an extra GBA SP, a GBC with no working sound, the camera, and the carrying case. The other 8 games were either doubles I already had (Super Mario Land 2, Donkey Kong Land 2, Animaniacs), or crap I had no interest in (Pit-Fighter, Toy Story, Asteroids, Star Wars, Wings of Fury). So I went to a local Game Craze store, and traded these items in. Interestingly, they gave me $30 even worth of in store credit. So with that, and an extra $20 thrown on top, I splurged on this little puppy:

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy211/Jasonb1983/Finds/P1170028.jpg

The top flap has a few bends in it, and there's a crease on the left edge of the front cover, but other than that the box is in pretty nice shape. Still, I pretty much spent $50 on a complete copy of Tengen Tetris, just with 8 decent Gameboy games for free along with it. Not nearly as cool as misfits859 $1.98 Tengen Tetris find, but it is complete.

$50-$60 is usually the going rate for a complete Tengen Tetris AUCTION on ebay right?

Misc 360 Games...Marked higher then in Gamestop used..

Xbox 360 $125.00(said to be working 06 model...(vendor has no clue on this stuff)

A friend-game seller spent $130.00 on a game-system lot at the same flea....I didn't get to see the stuff but he told me of the find..

.........................as asked on another forum..

Who's on the ball..
Don Mattingly..
$3.00

There was another ball in display with Dave Cone on it....The guy wanted more for them-but I talked him down as soon as he walked up as my dad bought yankees stuff from him a few minutes before..
... he had yankees coins..a set in a bag, said they cost $39.99 online that he wanted $25.00..we passed, then he came over with a pile of yankees stuff coins included and another coin asked $10.00 si my dad bought that stuff..
My dads is a yankees fan but the stuff is for someone else..
I got the one ball for $3.00 ..and the vendor was on the edge with price..So I didn't push for the two though I should have...I didn't want him to say no to 3 bucks..

I don't like being hit HIGH on things just because a vendor thinks I want something bad..

I cleaned the case up..,the balls mint inside...and it looks sooo good on my shelf ..

Most of the people I buy stuff from get their stuff from places like Salvation Army and Goodwill. I suppose it's caused by all those 90's kids getting rid of their collection.

Walmart is very YMMV when it comes to clearance sales. My local one had copies of Elite Beat Agents for $5, and the game was still $30 up in Tennessee where my sisters live.

Lots of Chumbawamba CDs lately...and tons of tube TVs...seems like a lot of people got flatscreens for Christmas and are now donating their old TVs. Saw a perfectly fine 32" CRT TV for $9.99 the other day, but no takers...very heavy, shiny buggy whips.

90s, yes. Alternative, oh how I wish. I'm tired of flipping through the Backstreet Boys. I used to find quite a bit of neat stuff, but that seemed to cut off completely last Fall.
