AND if anyone has any of the NES games i'm trying to track down, PLEASE BRING THEM, i will pay $$ for them (save for the couple of pricey ones... don't have enough for those... you know what they are =p ). here's what i need:

Less than two weeks left. Anyone know where we pick up the special edition shirts?
My guess would be in the Vendor Hall Annex, Registration and Merchandise Zone which can be found on the maps here:
http://www.midwestgamingclassic.com/event-maps/
If anything, ask at the ticket counter and they'll direct you. :)
Later.

I decided last night I'm making name tags. They're very simplistic, says digital press, your name and MGC 2011. It's basically the design I had in mind a couple years ago.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v735/Matt-El/MGC%202k11/mgc2k11.jpg?t=1300781944
Anyone want one? Say it. Otherwise, you can write on a blank one your DP name at the show.

Also, the Maxi 15...um. I forget. I've cleaned the fuck out of it, disabled the lockout chip on my NES, still I get nothing. I stopped messing with it a few years back because I played the maxi via emulation and figured it wasn't worth my time.
and by "nothing" I mean..I don't remember. Blue screen or something like that.

i'm thinking about going on saturday. will there be super long lines for everything on sat.? i was at MGC 2010 on that sun., and i thought everything was very accessible.
Sunday is always a bit more open. Last year Sat was insane in the vendor room, was hard to walk really until late afternoon lol. There may be a line to get in at open, but if it's anything like last year, there will be soooo much to do (Museum, pinball, the vendor room, downstairs) that it won't matter once you're in. MGC pretty much takes over the whole hotel.

Does anyone want/need/willing to test a US Saturn which I *think* is region modded? There's an aftermarket switch on the back which I assume is a region mod. It came with a few .jp cases (KOF97 and Battle Garegga) but without games in them. I'll throw that stuff in the car, too. I have a few more US games SF Alpha, SF Alpha 2, Marvel vs. Capcom (I think), and a few sports titles. If nothing else I'd like to test it with a .jp game so I can find out if it's region-modded.

Got home about an hour and a half ago and I must say this show was a vast improvement over last year (which I griped about). Saw other members, talked to a few while some I couldn't as I was usually in the process of buying something.
Speaking of buying:
QoF: I couldn't swing by again to ask you about buttons, but I'd like to order some custom buttons for my sister. She really loved the Portal "pie" magnet and I'd like to get that and possibly other ones for her as a fun gift.
Anyway, my impressions:
Computer museum: Talk about the perfect ambiance to play games-the room was dark except for the lights from the monitors and neon-like flex lights along the walls. In a back corner an iPod hooked to a speaker system was playing 80's tunes. Got a chance to sit and play Munch Man on the TI for the first time in maybe over a decade. Then I shifted to a C64 to play Space Taxi (which I never played before-thought I had to land on customers...ooops) and some game by Jeff Minter I think was called "AMC"(?). My sister sat at a station to play Zork, which was her introduction to text adventure games. She wants to play more.
Vendor Area: My biggest gripe last year was that it was so cramped in the vendor area. Lots of bodies with not a lot of room to look without getting bumped or pushed. First thing I noticed this year was that the walk space was wider, making it a much more comfortable and enjoyable experience. I'm not sure if they got more floor space, not as many vendors came or they were told they had to pare it down due to fire code. I dunno, but whatever it was, it helped open my wallet.
Everyone had a nice selection of items and I was able to find most of what I was looking for and some I didn't expect (bought a Super Go-bot Cy-Kill toy). Wished I could have found replacement pins for my NES but oh well. Was able to find some titles of games I wanted to do comparison videos on like I did with Ghouls and Ghosts a long while back.
Big thumbs up to the crew this year.
Arcade Area: Lots of pins again this year and with that comes a LOT of heat along with the sheer sea of people that passed through. Didn't get to play much but that's ok. So tempted to buy the Ms. Pac that was there though as a tax check arrived, but I need to get a new mattress.
Conference/Speaker Events: Went to watch the Ralph Baer/Ted Dabney/Michael Katz Skype conferences. Mr. Baer was fantastic. Loved the part of the discussion when some one asked "what were the graphics like on the system". He went on to say how his machine was considered "analog" and just blurted out that such a thing was "bullshit". Gotta love the bluntness on that!
Ben Heck/NES developers Area: Tried my hand to get a high score on the Yar's Revenge port on the NES to try and win the demo cart. I was not that lucky and/or patient as other competitors as I only got 11K in my try. Couldn't get the "money shot" to rack up serious points so I just tackled the game old-school. Also got to see an N64 flash cart which really piqued my interest.
All in all I had a great time this year. It was my sister's second time at MGC so she got to actually play stuff instead of just going about taking everything in with her eyes and ears. She got to experience gaming she never seen or tried before, like the aforementioned Zork and also Dragon's Lair II on the CDi. I hope the "arcade ambiance" approach is done with other rooms in the future-that really made for a memorable experience.

Really great show this year. You guys outdid yourselves!!! The guests were great. The museum stuff was top notch. Really well set up, really nice exhibits and explanations. Same with the hands on console areas. And the Apple 1 playing chess was cool as ___. I loved the dark room effect too.
I think the show has grown to the point where the vendor area needs some work so the crowds are spaced out better. With all of the classic game vendors cluttered together it is kind of hard to see stuff. It was nice to see some grail stuff this year. Bubble Bath Babes and Magicard (!) stood out. I still can't believe I couldn't find a NES copy of Spelunker, not even in the GOAT repetoire (although I only arrived on day two). BTW GOAT guys . . . you deserve a better spot than that hallway!
Strongly considering setting up my own table next year. Especially if I can find someone who'd like to pick up a Gamecube Demo Kiosk.
Questions: who was the vendor that had sealed PS1 games (Parasite Eve, Legend of Mana etc.)? I left the show but forgot to get the guy's contact info.
You guys think a 3 year old would have fun at this event? My son is two now - I would have brought him this year but I thought he'd just wind up destroying stuff.
Last question - what is shrink like for the vendor's? It seems like the crowd is pretty good natured, but does anyone get stuff stolen?

That would be the 64drive. :)
@backguard: my 2 little guys turn 3 next week, & my wife asked if I wanted to go but I turned it down. We didnt go last year due to hotel room probs; they werent sleeping in normal beds yet & we had no idea how to accomodate them in the room.
We couldve made it this yr but we'd just spent the week in San Diego & wanted our own beds back. :) I think next yr, though, we definitely will hit MGC. They already know what games & pinball are, but 1 more yr may help their understanding.
& if your 2 yr old is the kind that runs rampant, I think it's best to wait awhile. ;)

Great year. I really liked the whole computer room, there was a lot more to play. The console arcade was good too.
Visited the Ben Heck area and played the Yar's Revenge contest. Didn't rank, but it was fun.
Vendors were great. Got games on pretty much every system, for great prices. Pirated Tengen Tetris on Famicom for $1!
The arcade room was fun too, liked the Mario Birthday room too.
Overall, a great year. Glad all of the problems were ironed out with the move to the Sheraton last year.

As for shrinkage, I didn't notice anything missing. It is a pretty honest crowd. That and they do have random security roaming the hall. I still watch my stuff and place more valuable stuff either behind the table or close to where I'm sitting.

Congrats Gary, Marty, Dan and crew on a great 10th anniversary show...you have definitely come light years from the basement of the Pieper Power Center! Vending was busy as usual, so much so, I didn't have a chance to actually see any of the rest of the show this year. But from talking to people who stopped at my tables, I really regret not seeing everything you put together.
Hopefully selling off all of my stuff will allow me to come and enjoy the rest of the show next year...may even bring a few things for the museum if Marty has room. It was great to see all of the regulars there, along with all of the new people...this show just seems to keep growing. Thanks to everyone who came at 3 on Sunday for my own personal auction...it was fun, scary, a bit bittersweet, and yet liberating all at the same time. Good luck untangling all of those controller cords to the winning birders...my former stash (and burden) is now yours! Hope to see you all again next year!

Congrats Gary, Marty, Dan and crew on a great 10th anniversary show...you have definitely come light years from the basement of the Pieper Power Center!
Thanks! And JD (DHG Hunter) as well, who had the yeomen task of doing his normal '85 to present room, Tom's Family Game Room (he couldn't make it up this year), and the Vs Room this year besides the normal Museum Wing duties!

We'll have photo galleries soon, but pics and vids are slowly showing up around the net.
Hopefully selling off all of my stuff will allow me to come and enjoy the rest of the show next year...
And thank you for doing that, I was able to complete my Boxed 7800 archive because of your crazy auction on Sunday. Now have the boxed '84 model (the one you had), boxed early '86 re-release ('84 model with stickers slapped over the keyboard info), and boxed regular ('86-'92) model.
may even bring a few things for the museum if Marty has room.
Please do join the gang. I had a bunch of people do awesome displays in my museum room this year (vintage computers, consoles 1972-1985). The VCF Midwest guys put together an awesome "Heroes of the 6502" display including just about every 6502 based computer and console on display (and up and running) besides a PC Jr. running King's Quest and IBM PC (5150) running Zork (which actually got a lot of play). The ECCC guys had a great Commodore display (Pet, Vic20, C64, SX64, and CD32), Sean had his tricked out CoCo3 display (that most people wanted to play the arcade perfect port of Donkey Kong on), Erik had the massive TI display (3 TI99/4A's, a TI99/4, full Computer Computer setup, all the LPC toys), Jeff had the full Intellivision setup and luggable Compaq runnin Ms. Pac-man, and Matt (Tempest) had his full Adam setup and VideoBrain (which got a lot more play than the Adam interestingly).
The room itself I went for more of an early 80's arcade feel. Lights out, EL Wire on the walls, rope lights on the tables, awesome glow of the tvs and monitors......

One thing I just wanted to note:
I think the show has grown to the point where the vendor area needs some work so the crowds are spaced out better. With all of the classic game vendors cluttered together it is kind of hard to see stuff. It was nice to see some grail stuff this year. Bubble Bath Babes and Magicard (!) stood out. I still can't believe I couldn't find a NES copy of Spelunker, not even in the GOAT repetoire (although I only arrived on day two). BTW GOAT guys . . . you deserve a better spot than that hallway!
Well, the GOAT Guys are myself and Gary, who run the show, so we always fill in where ever we figure there is a weird bit of space. I'm personally way less concerned about having the GOAT Store sell tons of stuff at the show than I am about ensuring all of the other vendors are happy. In fact, we've discussed not even bringing the GOAT Store in the past to sell the space to someone else. Every time we do, however, I end up really glad we did.
This year, we were running a little behind so we only grabbed about 2/3rds of what I had been planning on bringing, and apparently we grabbed the right stuff.
But anyway, here's the one thing I wanted to say -- We *could* space things out in the vendor hall more. It would also probably mean eliminating at least 10-15 vendors from the show. For anyone who didn't notice this, we were using *all* the space in the hotel -- the lobby for table top gaming, the hallways everywhere we had electricity for displays, Blik Wall Decals up at the corners, their restaurant for speaking... People jokingly (I think?) suggested that next year we should start expanding into hotel rooms if the show gets any bigger. While the vending hall is crowded, from having spoke a little to the vendors (and more to Gary who speaks a lot to the vendors) and a lot of people who have come to the show, they wouldn't want us to cut out anything or anyone.
So... yeah. I've also suggested to the Sheraton that they add another huge ballroom to the hotel, but they didn't seem to want to go for that ;)

If there's no CGE next year, then I might very well be tempted to come to this, Kris keeps asking me every year if I want to attend :p
Aside from that, I really would like to meet Eugene Jarvis, so if he's on the roster again next year then that's a serious deal maker heh...
and some game by Jeff Minter I think was called "AMC"(?).
It's called AMC in the US for whatever reason (I believe HES liked the name)... it's known as Matrix here in the UK, and is the sequel to Gridrunner.

I'm at my booth right now. things are pretty busy. only a few people have picked up their badges right now. Anyone that's reading this that's at the show that wants their badge, come and pick it up:).
martyg, I made one for you. icbrkr, I did for you as well, if you came.
I didn't get into the vendors room until Sunday for a bit. I didn't notice where you were located, so forgot the badge. if you still have it, can you mail it to me? pm me for my address. thanks Matt for doing this!

You guys did a great job. From another guy who runs conventions I thought you guys could have fit a couple more vendors in there and still had ample aisle space. Thats just me. There never seamed to be too much crowding I think you guys did things just right. Congrats! I cant wait to come back.

I had a blast again this year. I was surprised at how much play the VideoBrain got considering it's about as technologically advanced as the Channel F (same processor actually). I think it was the curiosity factor and the simplicity of the games.
Next year I may bring my TRS-80 Model III because you haven't lived until you've played Zaxxon on a Trash-80. :)

Actually, what I think you were seeing there is that we had a vendor pull out last minute for very legit reasons. A big vendor. Gary spent a lot of time shuffling stuff Thursday night to shift stuff around so you really couldn't tell. I think it worked well in the end :)

I still contendd this is probably the best show in the country. If you're a vendor you won't be able to see the whole thing. The vendor hall is just too busy. It's just a huge show. there's a whole wing of museum where you can play anything. The downstairs is packed with all kinds of things, and yes the hallways and such are also packed with more things to see. Add on the arcade and pinball, and you get the point.
If you come as a gamer, you won't be bored, that's for sure.

One small suggestion: Would it be possible to close the vendor hall on Saturday at, say, 6pm instead of 8pm when the rest of the show closes? I barely had a chance to leave my table to go to the bathroom and I really wanted to check out the rest of the show. (Of course, being that busy was a GOOD thing so I'm not complaining at all! :) )

No offense to the Team Fremont/Robot Panic guys, but it seems that their absence from the vending hall seemed to free up quite a bit of space. I also noticed that a couple other prominent vendors such as Warpzone and Ianoid were absent this year. As far as I'm concerned, we had the Goldilocks vending hall this year. It really did seem like everything was in its right place. Good job on the show once again.

Team Fremont/Robot Panic's podcast isnt even considered gaming-centric anymore. I stopped subscribing/listening a month or so ago. They seem to be more into the excessive swearing & immature humor angle now...not that THAT ever really changed.
