Question about the PS ONE

I just picked up one of the smaller ps1 models and boy is this thing loud when it goes to load discs. I don't remember the original model being quite so loud but it's been 10 years so my memory might just be faulty. Should the PS one be so dang loud when loading discs?

Sounds like either the laser moving to read the disc (the "whrr whrr" noise) or a faulty drive assembly and/or motor. Never used the PSone, but the standard models have a normal volume read noise compared to the quietness of the disc spinning when read.

use lithium grease on the worm motor and guide rails. if you can though, find some molybdenum grease for the long haul, as the lithium grease will break down in a year or two.

i would clean the rails and worm motor initially using wd-40 (breaks down the old grease residue) and wipe them down thoroughly before applying the new grease.

However because it was recorded with my cell phone you need to turn up the volume to hear anything. The Playstation is far louder than it sounds in that video. I'm just asking to clarify that those are all normal loading sounds. (If you want a rough idea of what it really sounds like try 300-400% volume of what you usually use :|)

I've been playing with my PSONE lately because I was able to pick up a screen on the cheap...mine sounds EXACTLY like yours. I think you're good.
