Until the guy gets his package and sees a $4 shipping label on it, he files an eBay dispute and gets most of the cost back.

This little loophole is over in a few weeks anyway. As part of Ebay's next update, they're going to charge fees on shipping costs too. Of course, this is under the guise of preventing sellers from doing exactly what that guy did, but of course, the vast majority of honest sellers get reamed, as well. They're lowering total value fees in general, but I've done the math, and they're going to make more money off of sellers going forward, even if you offer free shipping. It's actually quite a nasty little scam.

Something has got to pop up to over-take ebay. I think its run its course. I either forum buy/sell, thrift, or CL. Ebay can wither away anytime now.

I did have one decent find this morning:

- Atari 2600 (Light Sixer model. With 2 AC adapters and a mess of controllers): $5

After trying to find an AC for my 2600 Jr., this was a nice find. While the system I just got doesn't seem to want to turn on (Hopefully it's just dirty connectors), the 2600 Jr. I've been sitting on for the past 6 years works perfectly.

Yup, you can print the label without the price or you can print it with the price, cross it out and write in another amount(which I've done from time to time). But most people know how to print it without the price.

Final Fantasy 8(PS1) sealed
Metal Gear Solid(PS1)
Duke Nukem: Time To Kill(PS1)
WWE: Wreckless Intent
LL Cool J: All World
Kanye West: Late Registration

All the above were found at one yardsale for $10. This was the first yardsale I've been to in the past three weeks that actually had some decent stuff. It was raining all day so they held it inside their house, which was kind of weird but atleast it was dry. As I got there another dude was literally buying all his dvds, like 40 or 50 at once.

Although the dude was pretty cool with his pricing(wanting only a dollar for most of his games, cds and dvds), he had a 60 gig bc PS3 that he wanted $300 for. Obviously I passed but if it doesn't sell he'll probably lower it for next week if he has another sale. Since it was indoors most of his "for sale" stuff was set up in the living room. Near the PS3 was a 360 slim with kinect hooked up to the tv with a bunch of good games. He looked at me and said none of that was for sale and I told him I don't blame him and smiled. He offered me a rrod elite but I also passed on that.

I'm pretty sure people aren't THAT dumb. If anything, he'd be a jackass for doing that IMO as he should know well that it doesn't cost $86 to ship a copy of Windows Vista.

That's nothing. I think I mentioned in another thread some asshole that asked over 3 grand to ship an N64.

Saw a loose Saturn, no cables or anything, for over 30 bucks at a thrift today. Left it there.

Then at a GW I found all 18 Star Blazers VHS tapes (3 sets of 6). Good times.

"Sega CD/Genesis - $40" was the title I saw on CL today. He had a picture but no list of games. This is what I ended up with:
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/finds249a.jpg
Nothing too special game-wise, unfortunately. I couldn't make out most of them in the fuzzy small picture, so it was all a surprise. I'll admit I was hoping there would be a Snatcher or Popful Mail in there. Crime Patrol is apparently the "gem" of the lot, if you can call an undesirable FMV game a "gem". The DP guide says it is an R6, which is as rare as they list any SCD game. Anyone know what it is worth? It is complete though the disc is scratched.
The Dreamcast game wasn't supposed to be with all this, the guy is selling a DC lot also and this just got mixed up. However, he is also selling an NES lot that I didn't know about and he just confirmed that I can get that from him, too, so I'll return the DC game if all goes to plan.

Oh, and this was also in the lot. I mean, you need something to play your Sega CD/Genesis games on after all.

http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/finds249b.jpg

It works great.

edit: P.S. Sega CD games were fully copyable by a regular CDR drive, right? And by that I just mean to establish that if I get a good scan of the disc using NERO ScanDisc that in all likelihood it will play fine, right? I ask because with Dreamcast games you can scan them, but only part of the disc is normally readable/scanable on a computer.

Yes, the system runs with CD-Rs, as long as the games are the same region they'll work fine.

If you want to get rid of some of those FMV games, give me a holler.

It really is that awesome. A near full model 2 in there. Down to 32X support, RGB, and SMS mode being intact. So expensive few are willing to shell out for one. Chances are I'll keep mine in the end, as everybody's out of money right now. :P

Stopped at the church thrift, found two loose Genesis carts that looked interesting, both $2.

Forgotten Worlds
Jewel Master

Both work. Kinda. Jewel Master had a lot of corrosion, but I cleaned it to working condition. Forgotten Worlds is possibly possessed. Remember that creepy Majora's Mast Cart? Well, this one just goes straight to Game Over after the intro. I'm testing it on my Model 1 Genny, maybe it works better on a Model 2? Watch the video (http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/14121087) and tell me what you think is wrong...

Edit: Nevermind, it just doesn't work with the 6-button. Hold mode on boot and it works. Wow this game sucks...

The Densha De Go! series are train simulators. You drive a train down a track from destination to destination. That's about all you do.

here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-wIVqOuyYc&feature=related) a gameplay video, although it's of the Dreamcast version instead of PS1, and maybe an entirely different game in the series, but you get the picture of what the games are in terms of gameplay.

I found nothing at the flea market today. I did go check my mail though and got these:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-04-18.jpg
The Adam Ant album was $2 shipped, the KOF set is from a trade. Now I have to send my half of the trade. :p

Oh yeah, I also got into a car crash. Price? Free. The cab I was in got into a collision because the moron driving a huge pick-up in front stopped to buy the paper from a newsstand all of a sudden... which resulted in the front of the cab being totaled, while the pickup's back fender was bent inwards. I walked away fine, just with a bruised left shin and my soda spilled on me and the other passenger.

Of course the pickup guy is blaming the cabbie. And it was the pickup guy's fault.

That cab driver owes you a soda.

If I'm not mistaken, the at-fault driver in those situations is always the one at the back. It's retarded, but the rationale is that you're not supposed to follow that closely. They expect you to always have full stopping distance ahead of you.

It really is way more fun than it sounds. I picked up Densha de Go a while back for a few bucks in a random shop, just because they were unloading some imports super cheap (I have a modded PS1). I popped it in out of curiosity a few days later and was totally hooked. I even had my parents and my kids playing it. Fun stuff!

You are correct sir. So even though the person at fault is really the truck driving, newspaper buying idiot - legally speaking the cabbie is at fault for doing nothing but following too closely. Sucks, but that's the way it is.

What do you do in these games?

Essentially you operate different trains along real life routes with somewhat prototypical scheduling. I usually explain it kind of like Crazy Taxi but with trains. You have to maintain proper speed, sound the horn at the right times, be smooth with gearing and braking and most importantly run on time. Reach stations too slow and your points / life gauge will tick down, once it reaches zero the game is done. Reach stations too fast and you'll start to come up on the operations in front of you, which means yellow signals (speed reduction required) or the dreaded red signal. Nothing sucks more than being like twenty minutes into a route, nailing every time point, only to get a little ahead of yourself and end up parked at a red signal while your points gauge ticks down to zero. You get bonuses for passing non-stop stations right as the time ticks down to the exact scheduled arrival. But of course the most challenging part of the game is stopping the train at the scheduled stations within three meters of the stop line - while being on time. On top of that you have to stop smoothly or points / life is deducted.

The first two games are brutally strict in that they were based upon the arcade game. The later titles loosened up quite a bit and added things like a track radar that lets you know in advance of signal changes and speed traps. The first two games are notorious for having you going full tilt and then springing a 45 km/h zone on you out of the blue. So for the early titles you have to get a pretty good memorization of each route. I've also been playing the Nagoya Railroad version of the game which adds lightrail operations - having to also obey traffic lights, having cars block you in intersections, etc.

The different routes all have different challenges as do the different types of trains, since the physics are totally different for each one.

The only way to play is with a throttle controller, this is the classic one...

http://classicplastic.net/dvgi/periSATdensha-01.jpg

The spring loaded lever on the left controls throttle gearing (Off - 5). The lever on the right side controls the brake pressure. From right to left it goes from E (essentially park) to All Stop, then braking pressure 8 - Off. Each spot for both the throttle and brake have a nice solid click. Oh, also the well in the middle isn't a cup holder, it's a place to set your pocket watch to keep things authentic. LOL

Seriously, the games are crazy entertaining. In fact the series was retired not because it wasn't still extremely popular but because it was getting too expensive to recreate the true to life routes as video game systems became more and more powerful. A similar series, Railfan, replaced Densha de Go! but it uses video recordings so everything is exactly the same every time.

I've always been fascinated with Densha de GO!. I've played it using a regular controller, but I bet it can't compare. If you have an extra controller/game, I wouldn't mind taking it off your hands, David.

I remember playing a game just like it in a Vegas arcade, basically Densha de GO with planes, sponsored by ANA. Oddly enough, what I'm guessing was the console equivalent, Jet de Go!, was sponsored by JAL.

Jet de Go! is on the PSP, but I can't find the original PS1 version anywhere.

I have a boxed controller / Densha de Go! EX for the Saturn (what's show in the picture) and the same series throttle controller for the PS1 but that's it. I got my PS1 controller for $1 from a local guy I've bought tons of stuff from over the years. The gearing lever was bent down (which cracked the plastic, there's a metal bar inside) but I was able to get it back to the proper angle and filled / reinforced the cracked plastic with some epoxy and it works perfectly. So no spares but I'm always on the lookout for them. Not to mention the rather extravagant shinkansen controller with digital on board ATC readouts (current suggested speed / current actual speed) even though the game that uses it is rather mundane - the routes on that one are mainly high speed viaducts and not much more.

I'll look out for the Saturn/PS1/N64 era versions.

InsaneDavid

I'll look out for the Saturn/PS1/N64 era versions.

The PlayStation is the way to go if you end up having to make a choice. It's the platform that has the most games on it and the standard controllers should work on both the PS1 and (most of the games on) PS2. To compare the Saturn only had Densha de Go! EX (small addition of a line), the Dreamcast only had Densha de Go! 2 Kosoku-hen 3000 (has a couple extra lines over the PS1 version), and the N64 only had Densha de Go! 64 (which is the same game as Densha de Go! 2 Kosoku-hen 3000).

So really if you want all the trackage you have to get them all. (That's where I started which is why I have it) The DC and N64 games aren't worth it since they're basically Densha de Go! 2 with some additional lines, some of which were later done on the PS2.

As a comparison if you go with the PS1 / PS2...

PS1 - Densha de Go! (very strict arcade port)

PS1 - Kisha de Go! (steam locomotives but not that great)

PS1 - Densha de Go! 2 (strict arcade port)

PS1 - Densha de Go! Professional (same lines as Densha de Go! 1 + 2 along with a couple new lines, the new radar system and less strictness)

PS1 - Densha de Go! Nagoya Railroad (the lines of the Nagoya Railroad including lightrail and amusement park monorail - NOTE: in this game you MUST sound your horn after letting off the brake but before putting on the throttle when departing from full stop - must be something about this particular private line)

Then it switches to PS2 titles...

Densha de Go! 3

Densha de Go! Professional 2

Densha de Go! Shinkansen (high speed operations, kinda boring but it has a cool controller if you want to drop serious cash)

Densha de Go! Ryojohen (all trams and lightrail)

Densha de Go! Final (last regular series game, they went out with a bang - lots of lines and EXTREMELY relaxed gameplay)

I'd stay away from the "Train Simulator +" games and Railfain, although that's my personal preference since I don't care for the video based games - but they still use the Densha de Go! interface.

Oh - and watch out for the Simple 1500 and Simple 2000 series re-releases of some games, don't want to get two copies of the same thing unless you're going for variants. LOL

Picked up a few things at a local thrift store. Guess someone donated their entire PS2/PS1 collection and I was there to snatch it up. 50% off to boot. All the games were in fantastic condition and were complete to boot. Just a couple downers though.

In one bin I found complete black label Xenogears and Front Mission 3, both also mint. Also found a Brave Fencer Musashi, but that was case only. The main problem with all three? No price. Looks like I'm going back tomorrow when they will *only* be 25% off.

Prices are after discount and with tax. Everything is a gem and complete.

Resident Evil 2 - $2.59
Xenosaga: Episode 1 - $2.59
Grandia II (released on PS2?) - $3.65
Final Fantasy VIII (black tabs on discs 2 and 3 are broke) - $5.25
Dino Crisis 2 - $2.59
Resident Evil 3 (no bonus disc) - $2.06
Final Fantasy IX - $3.65
Tenchu 2 - $2.06

Also found a few CDs:

Mini Wizard by V-Tech (1987) complete in box and in MINT shape - works sweet!

Koudelka (PS1) - saw this and I knew nothing about it so I bought it anyway. Glad I did, as it's complete and the discs are in good shape, very few scratches

Lastly, two Nerf guns for my kids in nice shape but no bullets (not pictured).

Got all of this stuff for just over $43.

Today was 50% off for 'VIP cardholders' at Unique. I got this stuff for $1.82 total. Passed on a couple Xboxs that would have been ~$20, NES Alien 3 would have been $2.50, and something else I can't remember right now.

http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/finds250c.jpg

And I met up with the guy I bought that CDX + games from. He had 2 NES decks and hookups/controllers for 1, plus games that he wanted $25 for:

Pretty happy to get Wayne's World since it is something I don't have and one of many games I wanted but was too late for out of Oobgarm's sale.

Oh, and since this guy was using the same rf adapter for the NES and his SNES, he gave me his SNES and games, too...

I actually gave him $32 since he held the stuff for me, met up with me, and then he had trouble finding the place I suggested to meet. He also has an original SW Trilogy display that I'm thinking about getting from him. Check it out: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/csw/clt/2330480244.html ... Should I get that for $20? It would be to keep, and it is cool, but I'm wondering if I'll ever really have a place to put it up.

Unique FTW! That's where my finds were from!

I thought you were in Alaska? Is that someone else?

Unique has gradually been going downhill for me. It is still probably my favorite thrift, but it is also substantially closer than any others so that's a big part of it. In the past couple months they started bagging all cartridge games instead of just tossing them on the shelves. This means they are pricing them all variable, instead of all NES being 1.80 like it used to be for example, and much higher (that NES Alien 3 was marked 4.95). PC games boxed and in jewel cases have been my primary finds there lately. Also, I used to find software like M$ OSs or Adobe stuff, but the last thing I found with a serial number on the back the cashier called across the store to point out the serial number to someone. It was in Spanish, which I don't speak, but I got the distinct impression that it shouldn't have been for sale at all. I haven't seen anything like that since, so that was probably around the time they started diverting that sort of thing.
Goodwill is way overpriced here, so maybe I'll have to keep a closer eye on SA or Savers, though those places have less turnover or just plain trash.

Today's finds:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-04-21a.jpg
Curtis Mayfield: Live at Ronnie Scott's
The Producers Broadway Cast Recording
Buddy Guy: Slippin' In
The Chieftains: The Long Black Veil
Luther Allison: Live In Chicago (some scuffs)
$1 each.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-04-21b.jpg
Maus Volumes 1 and 2 with slipcover: $1. I got this at that same booth where I got those CDs.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-04-21c.jpg
And... uh, this. This is a bunch of stamps. A lot of stamps. I found them at a booth after the owner told me he had some comics (he had none.) He charged me $10 for all of these. I figured maybe they'd be worth something... and they're not. Oh well. This includes:

19 4 cent sheets (20 each)
7 4 cent stamps
4 5 cent sheets (20 each)
2 5 cent stamps
8 1 cent sheets (20 each)
7 1 cent stamps
1 26 cent sheet (20 each)
4 10 cent stamps

$15.20 + .28 + 4.00 + .10 + 1.60 + .07 + 5.20 + .40 = $26.85.

Not bad for a ten buck investment.

Edit: He also had several reel to reel tapes with medical recordings in them from the 1950s... I hesitated whether to buy them or not, eBay and Google ain't helping me figure out if they're worth much.

360 60 gig hard drive/headset/3 month XBL card combo pack $24.98
PS2 HDD sealed $6
Parasite Eve(PS1) $3
Yoshi doll $1
Donkey Kong Country 2(Snes) $3
Super Mario All Stars(Snes) $3
Super Mario World(Snes) $3

I nabbed the 360 combo pack at Target. I'm going to sell the the hard drive and keep the XBL card. The rest was found at two different Goodwills. I seem to have good luck finding these PS2 hdd's sealed all the time. However, I've noticed that their value has severely decreased since the last time I sold one.

I don't even like Yoshi but I picked up the Yoshi doll because everytime I view someones game collection on this site it reminds me that I need more video game swag to highlight my own collection. And since it was only a dollar it can't hurt. And then there was Parasite Eve and the Snes games. I'm wrestling with rather or not to play Parasite Eve first before I sell it. As for the Snes games, last week they had a bunch of N64 and Gamecube games that I cleaned up on and this week they had the other system. Hopefully they get some more Nes games in next week.

You're making me want to go hit some Gamestops for this sale and I've been very good about avoiding them all week! Trying to save myself from what would be a HUGE monetary hit at that sale...

Did find a few things at Half Price Books yesterday:

Monster Madness (xbox 360) $4 complete
Death Race 2000 (UMD movie - the original from 70's) - $3.25
Hitman - Unrated (Blu Ray) - $6
Tron Graphic Novel - $3 new

The NCIS set has sharpie over the UPC and was $4. (Shut up, I liked the show back in the day.)
The Nascar 2003 is... missing the disc and I paid a buck for it. Maybe someone will want the key on eBay.

I went back to that booth from yesterday and found that the kid in charge had unpacked more music. So I got all of this for $8 total. Some of the CDs have scratches but I figured I'd take the risk. Digital Image Pro is Disc 1 only.

The Tetris DS with manual ($5), PS1 Alone in the Dark: One-Eyed Jack's Revenge ($2), Xbox Mega Man Anniversary Collection, GameCube Preview Disc and Naruto 4: (3 for $15 deal) were found at a pawn shop. Yeah, I'd like to know how the import Naruto wound up in Boise myself.

The label-less 2600 Apollo game was $.99 at another pawn shop. I realize a monogrammed Spacechase may be too much to ask. ;)

Went into Goodwill to get a TV for one of my classic systems, and noticed they had an original Game.com behind the glass. I bought it, $6. It came with Williams Arcade Classics and had Lights Out and Indy 500 in the slots. I think it has a row of dead pixels, but playing it under a light makes it not so bad.

I have now played the worst version of Robotron 2084 and Defender ever. I love Lights Out, though.

All I picked up today was a Japanese jigsaw puzzle (just for the novelty of it) and a weird Mattel handheld/tabletop device that used to let you play Wheel of Fortune with the TV show. There's some kind of optical/RF sensor on it that you would aim at your television, and a keyboard on it. I can't find any information about it on the Electronic Handheld Game Museum website. It has a sticker on the bottom of it saying it'll work with the TV show broadcasts from a date in 1988 to at least early 1990. Strange.

It's not really rare, but it's pretty neat. It also works with some video tapes that were specifically made for it.

$5 each (from $7). I got a discount for good karma - the booth was uh, opened when I got there but the owner hadn't arrived yet. The strong winds we had last night must've busted open the makeshift fence thing and when I realized that, I told the guy from the booth next door about it and closed the place up again. There were people inside already. >_>

I went to do other errands and came back, spoke to the owner and explained what happened, and she thanked me and gave me a discount.

You know what sucks though? She said she had TWENTY COMPLETE IN BOX GAMES earlier in the week. And someone left those two, Castlevania, and The Next Tetris...

I wanted to but it's already listed. And even if it doesn't sell I'm going to be playing the Gears of War 3 beta for most of the next 3 weeks or so. Who knows, maybe I'll find another cheap copy in the wild sometime.

I've had a few decent finds over the past few days; especially after taking a trip yesterday to some more out of the way places.

- Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (PSP. New): $20
- Super NES Game Genie (Loose): $6
- Treasure Mountain (PC [Windows 3.1 edition]. Used in near mint condition): $2

I was surprised to find that preticular version of Treasure Mountain; after having played the original MS-DOS version to death as a kid, only seeing a few pictures from the Windows version in a catalog ages ago. Oddly enough, I found a brand new copy at Hasting's not long after; obviously some very, very old backstock (A bit odd finding a game that proudly says on the case "Windows 95 compatible!" in-between copies of Portal 2)

Non-gaming finds:
- Judas Priest: Ram It Down (CD. Complete in very good condition): $6
- Lucky Star: Volume 2 (Manga. New): $11

Both of these where found at Hasting's, which is where I felt I had my best finds; finding not only the volume of Lucky Star that's been a pain in the butt to find (When I do find any volumes of the Lucky Star manga, they usually have everything but the 2nd volume), but also a Judas Priest album I've wanted to buy for a while (I like what I've heard off it, but I didn't feel it was worth the $16+ it was running for on Amazon when I last looked).

I got Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, and a new blue PS3 controller for only about 35 bucks out of pocket. I had received $100 Walmart gift card (as part of a deal with the apartment complex I live in) that I wasn't going to use, so I traded it to a friend for cash. Went to ToysRUs and got the MK/P2/$50 gift card deal on Tuesday, and then went back yesterday and used the GC for the controller.

From Goodwill yesterday:

http://i55.tinypic.com/9869vd.jpg

Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow - $1

I was really glad to find out that this was an enhanced port of the great Genesis version, not the inferior SNES version. It has much nicer graphics and CD audio sound. It's a total pain to get running, though. Windows XP and later crash with a Kernel32.dll error, while Crossover and 9x versions of Windows in VMware use analogue CD audio playback that won't work on modern CD drives. I ended up having to use a Win98 VM image with Daemon Tools to get it working - though it does run great there.

... while Crossover and 9x versions of Windows in VMware use analogue CD audio playback that won't work on modern CD drives.Eh?

It should work if you have an oldschool DVD drive to audio card cable. And many modern drives still support CD audio playback through the normal audio cables. Mine does!
