Deal Extreme's sister/baby site put up a bunch of Famicom multicarts this week.

*edit* They even look to have "dust sleeves"! I've never seen that on a HK multicart!

IMO It's tough to beat that price with free shipping ... for the oddball Fami multicart collector like myself I figured I'd share. It's not often that these sites stock up on this kind of thing these days (even the OneStation type games are few/far between lately).

I have no clue what's on the multi game carts that have more than 4 games but I ordered one of each. I'll report back with game lists when I get them if anybody is interested.

With the "standards" that you find on a FC 100 in 1 (Tengen Tetris, Vs. Goonies, SMB, etc.) $3 seems like a good deal to me.

LOL well, hey man, we're all getting what we paid for here, and for the most part $3 can't even buy a decent lunch in most places.

I know my HK multicart standards (games typically included on these things), and I'm sure that there will be a few games on each of the super multi carts that'll be worth the cost, and if not I'm sure we can all recoup what we spent selling them to whatever fellow gamer might be interested in taking them off our hands.

Eh, while they sometimes do have 100 unique games more often than not that is not the case. They typically have 30-40 unique games with an additional 20 or so "hacked" versions of those same games.

Probably because you stand a 50% chance of them being DOA. Still.... $3 is super tempting.

I have never run across a dead pirate cart, good cleaning is all that's needed 99% of the time.

I picked up a bunch of these multicarts in Southeast Asia, the construction is extremely flimsy but the dust covers are kind of neat. There are cool combinations of games on some of these carts, the best that I came across had Kickmaster, Blue Shadow and Ninja Gaiden 2 & 3. Only in one case did the games advertised on the label not match up with the actual contents of the cart. As for the carts claiming 100-in-1 and such, it's total bunk. As Richie suspected, it's just the same games repeated over and over - you'd be lucky to get 6 unique games. At least in the multicarts that I came across making such claims, the carts were as feather light as their more humble 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 counterparts and a quick peek at the board revealed that there was simply no way.

Yeah, we shouldn't expect ultra high-quality with these.

I frequently come across 100+ game multicarts where the software that runs the menu system rolls on an NTSC TV like its in PAL format where the actual games (once you start one up) run perfectly fine.

I've also had some that via whatever capacitors or resistors are in them would make horrible buzzing noises through the A/V on standard NES hardware but run great in some (not all) of my clone systems.

It's hit/miss. Again, I was only sharing these based on the low low price point, free shipping, and the fact that I know Deal Extreme to be a reputable site.

Buy at your own risk for sure!

being a collector of pirates for about 10 years, I have only ever encountered 1 dead game. Some of the carts in this series are actually quite rare, none on that site though, of course (not to plug my own sales thread, but I have a RARE one in my most recent sale). That Adventure island collection is worth it for part 4 alone, unless you want to shell out $500 for the official famicom version or $30 for a repro....

And I can almost guarantee the 115-in-1 etc. will be at most 20 games repeated (but usually 5) thats how the golden cards roll.

and only pay them with paypal, unless you want to take the high risk of your credit card info being stolen.

now....lets wait a few months and see how many turn up on ePay at some asinine price...

I can't say that I'm into pirate carts at all, but I glanced at this and just have to ask...

Do you (or anyone else) have any idea what Turtles 4 is? I love TMNT 2 and 3 for the NES, and would pick this up if it has even a halfway decent hacked TMNT game on it.

And, while I'm asking, same question, but Mortal Kombat 3 and 4?

I'm also somewhat interested in someday obtaining the Donkey Kong Country NES pirate thing (not listed on here) - to me, pirate games like that are a pretty amazing achievement, and much tougher than just straight up stealing someone's ROMs. Although I don't support the intellectual theft, the fact they pulled that stuff off amazes me.

Shipping times are long if you use the free HK Air Mail shipping option, but I've been purchasing random items from them every several weeks for the past five or six years or so and I've never had any problems eventually getting what I ordered.

There may be some random horror stories about bad service or items lost in the post out there, but I know several other DP users buy from DX on a regular basis with no problems, and with the volume that that site operates I'm sure that ANY similar site may have similar stories.

I've also found that NDSCardsale.com, while directly affiliated with DX seems to have it's own staff and/or shipping operation, as items I order from there tend to package/ship a bit quicker.

And, while I'm asking, same question, but Mortal Kombat 3 and 4?

Probably this:

http://youtu.be/hHC3DFGwG7U

Lots of stuff like that on HK multicarts. I have one with a version of Street Fighter Alpha that I always bust out for shits and giggles.

Don't be TOO sure about what can and can't be on there.

I've seen Tournament Fighters on a few carts. In fact, I think it's what a lot of HK companies use as a sprite hack for Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat type games.

I believe Turtles 4 is just Turtles 2 the arcade game re-titled or it will be tournament fighters (Theres a Rockman 7 as well, which is actually just Rockman 6)

The Mortal Kombat pirate games suck ass, everything about them is terrible- controls, gameplay, etc....sure its interesting cause its a game not released for the famicom or nes, but its just not worth it.... just stick to the SNES versions.

I have a Golden card available that has Lion King (Super Game version), Earthworm Jim 2 (super game version), Adventure Island 4, Samurai Spirits, and Mario 16 (Joe & Mac hack)....pretty interesting stuff to say the least, but most of the SNES to NES conversions are not the best. Sure they are interesting to see and a nice curiousity piece, but in all honesty the gameplay will turn you off if you are use to the SNES versions....

Of the multicarts I have from this series, one claims to contain Turtles 1 - 4, with 4, as others have suggested, being Turtles: Tournament Fighters.

Anything listed as Street Fighter 12 is a highly awful 1-on-1 pirate effort fighting game.

There are tons of "interesting" pirate hacks out there (Somari, Boogerman, the numerous fighting games), but few of them are really worth playing for longer than a few minutes. The handful that are tend to be "HK originals." But those also tend to be RPGs and not of interest to anyone who can't read Mandarin. (Most HK originals also suck, don't get me wrong, but there are a handful of good ones. I really enjoyed the Phantasy Star game, for instance.)

It might NOT be Tournament Fighters ... but I have a few oddball carts that have games that I've never seen anywhere else, so who knows, it might actually be on there.

Are Famicom multicarts legal?

Nope.

Manually compiling roms from existing games and putting them on a cartridge with a menu system then mass-producing them and selling them typically violates copyright laws (where applicable).

However, these things will always exist. They're a part of the landscape of cartridge-based gaming.

They're mostly produced in Hong Kong where copyright laws aren't generally "observed" and they've been around since the earliest days of the Famicom.

Unless they're being sold in a very public capacity within the borders of places where Nintendo (and the respective national government) actively enforces its copyright laws, like those 100-in-1 NOAC plug&play game controllers a few Christmas seasons back that Nintendo actively worked to stop importers from selling at shopping mall kiosks ... they usually just go unnoticed/ignored.

Just received my first shipment, and all 7 games I ordered work fine. The 115in1 and the 35in1 that I ordered only have about 7 repeating games on there, but crappy ones like tank, Tetris... the 29in1 has some better titles, but same story. The YH-4247 4in1 cart had a pleasant surprise, SD Fighter is Mighty Final Fight. The quality of the carts is crappy, as stated before, feels like they are going to break just by inserting them into your system. All things considered, great value, and enjoyable games.

Talk of flimsy plastic was not understated. This is a click away from celophane.

None of my carts were DOA despite that, in fact the glob top and (tiny) circuit boards all are in great shape.

I can confirm that unfortunately all of the multi-in-1 carts are pretty lame, nothing beyond Tengen Tetris and SMB on any that's worth mentioning.

All in all an amusing oddity and if I ever run across a friend who proclaims that they always wanted but could never get their hands on a Tengen Tetris, I've got a few Gyromite carts w/adapters that I can drop one of these into as a gift.

Got mine a few days ago. The Adventure Island multicart is pretty cool, the game they list as #3 is in fact 4. Love the label art too.

The 115 in 1 cartridge.....was really hoping this one would have some sort of Sonic for NES game on it, since there's Sonic up there in the corner on the label. Circus Chablie is pretty good. Haha.

Just saw the updated batch of carts on the site as well. Has anyone found any cool hacks on any of these carts, or anything really worth noting?

Build quality (the boards anyway) on the ones I got seemed fine they were all glob-tops with really really tiny boards. The plastic cartridge cases on the other hand ... laughably bad.

If you can I'd pop the carts open and stick the boards in the converter by themselves, I found that the cartridge plastic didn't allow the boards into the Famicom I was testing them out on.

Yes, this has Rockman 3, Mortal Kombat 7??, and Double Dragon 3. The first two are in English and the last one is part English and part Kanji (Japanese, Chinese, I have no idea).

Oh GOD NO. I've owned a few of those things... they're horrible. HORRIBLE. They even have the same crappy cart shape! If you don't like the cart shape you should put it in NES cart case they sell them at this site http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=40 Maybe it will fit

Nope, they're Famicom carts, so they wouldn't fit in an NES cart shell or have the proper pin-out for a US NES.

However, if you have a ton of spare Gyromite carts with the Famicom adapter inside you could use those.

Outstanding use of Engrish on the website's descriptions.

Simply reminds you the old good times.

Still remember the time when we were kids scattered around the house and fight for the chances to play the games in turns Still remember that we need good co-operation for the Contra and Jackal And for God's sake, I still remember we tried so hard for the Contra, till we knew there was a cheat code for 30 lifes, then we can finally went through all the battles. LOL

All the games from PS3, Xbox 360 cannot bring me this kind of good memories. LOL, so buy the machine now, and try to get back to those good old days, or share with your son then he knew how we played games when we were young.

:)

Hmmm... the 3 in 1 multicart that claims to have Adventure Island on it has a picture of Yoshi and Princess Toadstool representing the final Hudson game in the series released on the Famicom. For only $3, though... Hmmm...

I just placed a second order today, I noticed that some of the carts have some games that are kind of hard to find. I ordered a cart that claims to have Snow Bros, as well as one that seems like it might have a copy of Recca Summer Carnival (!) on it (The cart lists "Summer Carnival 1993", I'm fully expecting it to be some sort of Circus Charley hack).

Normally I'd be skeptical, but these have actually had some decent games on them, especially the one with the Adventure Islands, and the one with Mighty Final Fight. Fingers crossed that these turn out to be surprisingly good as well.

Then again, I may never see that $5.98 again.

Yeah, it's very cool that they continue to update their stock with new carts.

Be sure to let us know if the ones you order contain the games you're looking for.
