I was thinking of giving this series another shot (didn't really like it back in the day), but should I go for the PS1 or the PC versions? (yes I have a PC that can run it)

That's a remake. I'm only interested in the original game.

PC for sure. That was the best looking version IMO. The PS1 version, which I also played, looked a lot more pixelated if I recall.

ps1 due to slightly better textures and and the saturn not being able to handle transperancies or something, also the ps1 version had like 1 extra move albeit completely useless move, when you hold walk and up while hanging over a ledge or climbing out of a pool or wateva she does a hand stand....i think thats it

i think i still prefer the saturn version tho due to my love of that controller

edit: oh wait, actually i didnt realize you were debating between console and pc, if you're pc can run it at max settings, obviously pc then, if i remember correctly, there was a gold version of tomb raider 1 for pc with like 4 extra levels or something, and possibly a new gun, but even if it didnt have any of that, pc wins just based on the fact that you can run it at a faster framerate and higher resolution, you can also pretty much use any controller your want that can pair with your pc, so uhhh....yea....there go you

I played the Saturn version some time ago, it wasn't THAT bad.

I only played the Psone version back when it came out and it now looks like ASS!!!! I didn't get very far, I got bored fast with it and never tried another Tomb Raider game.

Tomb Raider Gold for the PC, certainly. It's got the best graphics by far and has some additional content too (four new levels) that the original version (PSX/Saturn/PC) doesn't have. Gold was released in 1998. Oh, and it's for DOS, like the first Tomb Raider for PC in 1996. It's got to be one of the later major DOS releases, I know of some from '97 but nothing else comes to mind from '98 or later...

The best way to play it would be some version of DOSBox with 3DFX support that can run the game (if there is one, I'd hope there is), because the game is 3DFX enhanced. Or alternately, an older PC with an actual 3DFX card...

As for the console versions, they're both okay for the time, but certainly have much worse visuals than Gold. The Saturn version's actually the original version, the PC and PSX versions are ports. I have the Saturn version, it's pretty decent to good, with some of the Saturn's better 3d... but Gold on the PC is clearly the best version.

Forget Tomb Raider and play Uncharted. It really is how Tomb Raider should have been IMO. :)

There are fan made texture updates for the PC version of Tomb Raider, so you should look into that if you find the original graphics that offensive.

I much prefer the isolated exploration elements of the original Tomb Raider, over the linear run and gun action of the Uncharted games. Don't get me wrong tho, Uncharted 2 is one of my favorite (if not favorite) games for the PS3 and I'm highly anticipating Uncharted 3, but I think the series would be that much better with a little more freedom to explore the areas.

Both the PS1 and the Saturn are POS

But I like the Saturn Version

There's also a fan patch for Tomb Raider 1 PC that makes it playable on modern PCs. All it does is force the installer past the 16-bit copyright protection and install it around DOSBox, but it does work.

Uncharted really isn't like classic Tomb Raider. Uncharted's mostly a third person shooting game, with occasional easy platforming; in comparison, the original Tomb Raider is mostly an exploration game, where you do a lot of platforming, puzzle solving, and such, and is only occasionally about shooting. I know later Tomb Raider games add a lot more shooting, but the first one was definitely more about the exploration aspect...
