Just look at the sales of March, April and May of 2010 and 2011.

I did and I don't see a 60% drop in US console sales for the Nintendo Wii from that period in 2011 compared with 2010.

The rest of your post is irrelevant. That PDF table (It isn't even a chart, a chart is a graphical representation like that link above, not a table of values like a Excel spreadsheet) doesn't allow me to compare US console sales for January-July of 2011 with that same period in 2010 to see this 60% drop in US console sales so far this year compared with last year. A drop I don't see to that degree in that NPD chart that does deal with that information month by month, graphically.

Instead, it deals with an entire fiscal year and the majority of that latest fiscal year, ending in March 2011, took place in the 2010 calendar year. I think they just stuck the 1st quarter 2011 results in there for completionist's sake since they were available, even though it isn't comparable with any of the previous values that represented sales for an entire fiscal year and not just the 1st quarter of their respective years.

Anyways, it's unimportant either way and isn't worth disagreeing over. Nintendo Wii sales are far down and no one was ever contesting that as far as I can see. And two novices trying to predict upcoming sales for a console, which isn't even relevant to this thread, is just derailing it and is an exercise in futility. So I think we should call it quits. We'll see what ends up happening and who was right in a few months time and rub it in via PM if either of us even remembers this by the time holiday sales reports are released.

Well, dropping the price to $249 shouldn't hurt Sony's chances any..

Looks like no more "PS3 Grill" jokes. I'm telling you: this thing may well come close to the Wii in sales if Nintendo drops the ball this Christmas and kills the Wii off for the Wii U. The PS3 and 360 seem to have a couple years left...

Sometimes, a video game console is losing the war in sales until the end. Remember the SNES and the 4th generation games?

1989-1991: 4th generation comes out. NES dominant console. Genesis founded, gets Sonic, smashes any hope of Turbo Grafx 16's success.

1991-1994: SNES comes out and makes itself known. The war is a knock down, drag out fight. Genesis is beating SNES - but not by much. Sega CD is helping a little. Turbo Grafx 16 whimpers in a corner, releases a CD attachment, and dies.

1994-1997: Sega introduces 32X for Genesis, only to turn right around and drop 32X, Genesis, and Sega CD like hot potatoes. Sega jumps ship to the Saturn, falls on face, gets back up and releases some good games, although Bernie Stolar keeps some good games out of America. SNES rises with games like DKC as Genesis, 32X, and CD fall. Hands ass to Sega. Sales figures come out. SNES is the winner.

That backwards compatability is looking better and better the cheaper this thing gets (yes, I am a holdout on HD gaming). Went to Best Buy, Target, and Gamestop today, the $249 PS3 160 GB pricepoint is already active. The 320 GB Move bundle is going for $349.

It will be interesting to see the final sales figures of this generation, since the Wii will stall out after this Christmas and disappear for the Wii U, meanwhile PS3 and 360 keep chuggin'. They would be shootin themselves in the foot to release a new console too soon, I think.
