Ahh......a myth an ongoing issue.....I just got done researching the issue on the topic and I saw that there are a couple of videos of people making towers using Famicom adapters and yada yada yada. While the elusive Galoob adapter is hard to come buy apparently, the alternative is not cheap either. My question to all of you is....WHY does the Game Genie not work in top loaders...is the contacts on the game genie going into the 72 Pin connector to thick? It appears so....People say it can work , but you got to jam it and it really isn't worth it....trust me I jammed it and it wa pain in ass getting it out. Now I know they sell replacement 72 pin connectors real cheap online, but I think those are more made for the Toaster NES...So if you bought one and tried installing it in the Top Loader, would that then allow the Game Genie to work? But I believe that one of the constant issues with the Toaster was the fact that 72 Pin connector was flimsy ...hence the blowing and fucking with your NES till it worked so replacing the one in the Top Loader would defeat the purpose of owning a top loader. How about filing down the Game Genie, making it thinner......its just metal contacts right...so as long as you don't destroy the conductor maybe its possible...I don't know...I am really just thinking out loud....Anyone have any solutions????

blowing and fucking with your NES

Nintendo does not recommend blowing or fucking your NES as it will void your warranty.

There is a less common Game Genie with black plastic trim instead of golden. This Game Genie has thinner connector pins and fits fine in a top loader. Keep an eye out for it.

Here it is. This fits in a toploader no problem. Rare black Game Genie:

BTW, is there any truth that using game genie in a toaster will help with the dreaded blinky problem?

Only to the extent that if you have bent, worn-out contacts in your NES, the Game Genie will make slightly better contact with the system than a standard cartridge.

However, I think a lot of people mistake problems with the NES' lockout chip for bent and loose contacts.

Yeah that's right. The fault lies in the NES-10 lockout chip, not the 72 pin connector. Open it up and disable the lockout chip by clipping pin 4 and you're good to go.

As for why the GG won't fit into the toploader, it's because the GG is too thick for the revised version of the connector.

I cam up with a solution that isn't too expensive and if you're hardcore into the NES/Famicom you'll already have on hand.

It's probably cheaper to just buy one of those all black purple labeled Game Genies I showed a picture of. Buying 1 thing instead of using 2 converters and a common gold labeled Game Genie.

I would love to get my hands on one of those galoob adapters for the NES 2

Is it really "rare" though?

I highly doubt it. I've found 2 gold label Game Genies in the last couple of years, and 4 purple label ones. I can't imagine they're all that rare.

It appears there are 3 varients I have seen so far:

Gold casing / purple label [NES 1 only]
Black casing / gold label [NES 1 only]
Black casing / purple label [NES 1 & 2]

I always figured it was those side "fins" being too large, that kept a Game Genie out of NES 2.

Eh. I don't use codes enough to try and hunt down the Famicom shape GG.

Nope, it's the connector pins' circuit board. They are on a board that is just too thick for the NES 2's tighter grip on games. You can force it in, but risk breaking the pins on the Game Genie's way out of the system. That final release has a thinner circuit board for its connector pins.

Just tried my black/purple Game Genie and it don't fit either. Perhaps it's not all of them, just some. All I know for sure is, this black/purple one is still too fat.

Yep, the reason why a normal Game Genie won't work in a Top loader is because the pin connector board is too thick.. Thankfully, you can easily recognize a Top loader Game Genie..

Yea I've really gotta break open one of my Toasters and clip the chip.

That's just a normal purple/black Game Genie with the converter attached. What I'm talking about is that my uncle plugged the Game Genie he sold directly into the toploader and it easily went in. If you're looking for just the Game Genie with thinner pins, it looks like it won't be so easily identifiable anymore. You would pretty much just have to get lucky.

I should have bought it from him, but since I was getting a powerpak I decided "eh I'll just use Game Genie codes from that." That could have been quite a way to jack up the price and make some money on ebay. "OMG this is the only Game Genie that will fit in the NES 2 without a converter." Why did I let him just sell it in an NES 2 lot to some local collector????

Also if you want to know where it came from, my uncle bought a huge game lot from the neice of a game store owner who had just dropped off a couple boxes at her house and she didn't want it taking up space. She just sold the mystery lot for a low price and my uncle made lots of money off things for the next couple months. I even bought the box/manual for Dungeon Explorer Sega CD from him and a loose copy of the game from Amazon to get a CIB for much cheaper. I wonder if this special Game Genie had been specifically set aside by the game store owner?

Today I was at a local game store and they had 3 gg's and one was black and the other were gold. One of the gold ones looked like it had a thinner connector.
