I have Strider 2 for PSOne. As I said in the "games you liked until you replayed them years later" topic, I don't like the Strider games anymore, but I keep my copy of this around because, well, I keep getting the feeling that if I sell it, I'll regret it... particularly as it seems to be a hard to find game now. (Incidentally, can anyone name a game that came in a similar case? My copy has the original back artwork, but its just the two discs in a standard jewel case and with no manual. I'd like to CIB this game sometime and I'll start with cannibalizing some other game's case).
Another is Bubsy. As a child I was a huge fan of this game. Now, not so much, but I can't bear to part with it because it brings back so many memories. Same with the Genesis version of Battletoads.
So, anyone else have stories like this?

X-Men for the Sega Genesis. I was always disappointed with this game. However, I was really into the cartoon at the time, so I kept it. Now I just keep it because I've already kept it so long.

Like, 80% of my collection? Nah - not that bad, but I went through a stage where I was basically just buying crap to add some thickness to my collections. I liked looking on the shelves and seeing rows and rows of "PlayStation 2" - "Xbox" and "GameCube" spines. Those three systems have the worst quantity to quality ratio of any of my collections (sans Game.com... but that doesn't count). Many are still in shrink wrap and, realistically, there's no way I can even pretend to be trying to complete collections for these systems. I was like a child buy dozens of packets of cards to add to his huge collection of... worthless trading cards. They serve no legitimate purpose and I would sell them if they weren't worth 6 cents each. And that's, pretty much, why I still have them. They're worth more to me on a shelf than as change in my pocket.

Bignose Freaks Out for NES is an awful game compared to the super fun Bignose the Caveman, but it's rare and my CIB copy is in very great condition so I just have to keep it.
X-Men for Sega Genesis is a bit hard once you get to level 4, but I find the first few stages fun so I keep it.
Shining in the Darkness for Genesis is a bit too point and clicky for me but I keep it because I want to start the Shining series from the beginning and play it in order.
I don't like the Phantasy Star games that much compared to other RPGs but keep them just to have a popular RPG to play on the SMS & Genesis.
I hang onto a few CIB sports games (one of each sport at least) for Dreamcast that I got for $1 or $2 each because I figure if I'm going to ever play a modernized sports game I'm going to do it on the Dreamcast which was arguably one of the best systems for that kind of game.
I am also a game series collector so if I like some games in a series, but not certain entries; I keep the weaker entries as well just to have a complete set.
See that's how I collect. I collect game series rather than fullsets for a system. On pre-Nintendo systems I collect arcade ports and clones of arcade games. It's why I appreciate sequels even to series that have been overdone over other games. Some people are sick of them but for me they're all I want most of the time.

TaleSpin for the Game Boy. I've never been able to make it past level one and that used to frustrate me as a kid, but it was one of the games I got the same christmas I got my Game Boy, so I could never get rid of it for sentimental reasons. I do go back and try it again every so often, but I still can't get past that first level.

Ha yeah I've got a few of those:
X-Men Next Dimension for PS2 - this game is f-ing awful but I'm a big X-Men fan, also it's got a cool roster of characters that you don't get to play as anywhere else.
Jurassic Park for Sega CD - not really sure why I keep this, I guess I'm a pretty big JP fan too, but I could never get into this game.
Super Alfred Chicken for SNES - I don't really like it, but this game was such a project for me, I got it for free but it was the most beat up, filthy cartridge I'd ever seen so I made it a project to clean it up, put it in a new case, make a cover for it, and make it look all shiny and new... I don't know, I was bored one day... this thing literally had mud all over exposed PCB.
Spider-Man (vs The Kingpin) for Genesis - even though I have the much superior Sega CD version for some reason I keep this one around too.

I have a lot of games that I don't like for many systems - like mostly any sports game, but I keep them because... well, I don't really know. I think I may want to complete some game sets, but I don't really want to spend that cash to ever fully complete a set for any system. Maybe I will get rid of them.
lot's of sports games
Madden for turbo duo and madden for 3DO
come to mind

Some Joe Montana game on the Sega CD. My uncle gave ti to me a LONG time ago and I never could stand it. Just kept it around because I'm too lazy to take it somewhere, I don't really care.

Ultraman: Towards the Future for SNES. It's the crappiest game I own, but it gets at least a cookie point for some decent nostalgic value. Besides, what, I'm going to sell it for 75 cents?

This happens to me when I buy compilations. I'll usually give each game in the pack a once-over just to see what it is, then never come back to them, but there are some where I got lazy and only went to the games I cared about, skipping the rest.
I also have Shivers II, which I bought intending to play it for Halloween... and then I never did. I never even installed it.

I think this sums up why most of us keep games we don't like. Then there's that rare thing you keep just because you can :p.

I also have Shivers II which I never got around to playing. What's worse is I also have copies of Shivers and Phantasmagoria which I got 3 years ago(well before Shivers II) and haven't played them yet either. Just more games to add onto the pile to play later.
As for the original question, I guess any games that are extremely rare would count. I can't really think of any games at the moment, usually if I don't like a game I try to sell it off.

Probably hundreds of games? I don't really aim for full sets, but if a game ends up in my hands, I don't part with it. Just part of being a collector, I suppose. Unless I was really short on storage space, I don't see a need to trim down my collection, and it's not like many of my crappy games are worth much of anything.
Plus, it's not all about just having the best games. There are so many factors that can make it worthwhile keeping a lame game around. The history, the variety, the humor, etc. I might not want to play it myself, but I might want to look at it or put a friend up to playing it just to torment them, haha.

I don't have too many because I usually sell off games I don't like, but Disgaea for one.
I don't like Disgaea, but at the time it was holding its value and then some. Around $80. Atlus reprinted the game about four times, dropping its value to around $10-15. Really can't say why I still own it.
Disgaea isn't one of the worst games I've ever played by far, and also not the worst one I own, but it's also not very good. I no longer have FF13. Wasn't long before I sold that, so that's kind of saying something.

I have a complete copy of Star Wars Episode One Racer for the N64 as well as a complete copy of Ridge Racer 64.
Turns out, I fucking hate racing games. Who knew??

Yeah I think I am in the same boat that even if I have a game that I don't like, I will just keep it. It is more work than it is worth to get rid of most of them!
