Yeah, that's pretty damn amazing if I do say so. I especially like the (I'm assuming) holographic foil cart sticker. That's the thing I'd have no idea how someone could make that.

They are in a sense. When I first started doing them they were completely hand made. I invested a lot of money into creating custom tools to simplify the process. They still take a lot of time to make though but the process is more efficient and accurate.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but why would anyone buy a repro of Stadium Events? If you want to play the game, get World Class Track Meet which is dirt common. I thought the only reason to own a copy was to say you had something actually rare, it's not like you can't easily play it otherwise and a repro doesn't count as a rare game. It's like buying a repro of Duck Hunt. Though I suppose someone could just replace the label with a normal looking one and throw the loose cart on ebay anyway, there's other threads with people asking for replacement labels and this seems like a reason for someone to get one.
Those all look well made though, very nice quality work. For stuff that's never been officially released, repros are great.

I don't really know either, I don't really collect NES games. Maybe because you have almost everything else, but dropping $1k+ on a single cart is out of your budget? Regardless, I'm guessing there is a market for them otherwise he probably wouldn't have made them. I just appreciate the fact that he's not making ones that could dupe an unsuspecting seller on eBay, since if you can do it with Stadium Events and get away with it you'd basically have a license to print money until the market dropped out.
@NESREPRO, You still haven't answered the question about the holographic stickers, or are you playing that one close to your chest? ;)

Concerning the label - I mark the inside of the board heavily. Anyone paying good money for SE would check the board and no immediately it's not real.

Just curious about something in your FAQ.
What are "donor" cartridges?
To produce your game a donor cartridge will be needed. The rom chips on the donor cartridge will be replaced with new rom chips containing the data of your new game. Unfortunately we cannot provide the donor cartridge for free. If you would like a game and do not want to send a donor cartridge in an extra fee will be charged for us to provide the cartridge.
So does that mean that if someone buys a game from you that they'll also have to provide a donor cart or be charged extra? Or is everything included in the cost already shown for each game?
I have to admit that the complete Sweet Home is really tempting since it comes with the manual and map.

The question was: Why would you produce fake cartridges? It did not make much sense to me, and i think i asked it in a respectful way while your reply seemed rather aggressive, i had no idea thought that this is supposed to be business.
To add to this: I was talking about making sense, as outlands is a fan-project, but with recent development, i have to say, this is somewhat overstepping a moral mark to me.

With that said, do you really think beginning a statement with: "Yai for fakes?" is a respectful, non-aggressive way to ask a constructive question? I'm not even sure why you're calling these "fakes", which seems sort of aggressive to me. I thought that these reproduction projects were made differently from any commercially released cartridges, as to not be mistaken for genuine licensed products. Am I wrong?
To add to this: I was talking about making sense, as outlands is a fan-project, but with recent development, i have to say, this is somewhat overstepping a moral mark to me.I'm not sure what you mean when you say overstepping a moral mark. What moral mark, exactly? Again, I'm not trying to be argumentative or cynical, I just don't understand what you mean. It's made to resemble a cartridge by nintendo which it isn't, you call it repro, i call it a fake, i guess it's just two words for the same thing. Well, to me this is quite a mad thing to do, the guy even made a box and sealed it! Why would you do that? I wondered. If i would know, it probably would make a lot more sense to me, but turns out it's a business, i guess this would explain a view things.
Because he is also producing and selling stuff like FF2 carts, it makes it morally a borderline case to me. Yes he makes it look somewhat different, so a educate person can tell the difference, but this basically is also true for most other counterfeit products, and that's where i personally would place it. I know this is getting rather harsh, but i have to say, i find it hard to find supportive words. 1000 copies also is a lot considering the size of the market. While abandonwear also crosses a legal line, i'm perfectly fine with it, it's the production and selling for own personal gain with which i'm not fine with, that's where square and nintendo should be involved, but aren't. Summed up and simplified: I just don't think it's right.
Well, as far as i'm concerned i've seen nothing here, but if you want a job involving games it may be worth considering something else. I also find it financially quite risky to produce those in packs of a 1000 each.

I don't see the problem with repros. The only strange thing I see is a Stadium Events reproduction. The majority of reproductions are games that never got released outside of Japan, never got released at all, are hacks of existing games, or are completely new. How else would people be able to play them on original systems?
They aren't "fake", they are just unlicensed. I doubt Nintendo cares about the reproduction market anyway.

That Mario Adventure looks great, otherwise your repros are too "New Age" looking for my taste. I like reproduction games for an 80s system to look like they were produced in the 80s and early 90s. Theres just something that makes me feel like that Zelda Outlands would be an eyesore in my collection and really annoy me. You should come up with vintage labels as well, then Id be interested. Great work overall though!

If you cant tell a cart is a reproduction then flat out you're a moron and should not be collecting for the NES. Get used to it, people have been doing it for 15+ years. And as far as the people doing this and "Profiting" ...try again, you know how much donor carts, wiring, eprom chips, getting manuals, boxes, and maps printed in high quality at kinkos all really costs? maybe they are pocketing like ten bucks at most.....and Im fine with that cause making repros is not an easy task that average guy I-Know-so-and-so-about electronics can just go and do.

Yes to be honest I really do not make very much doing this. To do it I have to seriously devalue my time. By the time I locate donors, order them, purchase eproms, design the box and manual (which takes forever) paint the carts, clear coat the carts, desolder the boards, insert eproms, wire in the eproms, trouble shoot the games because inevitably I always have a bunch of them that don't work...
And that's just the game which is the easy part. The boxes/manuals/maps are even harder because it's not cost effective at all to have these printed. Offset printing costs a huge amount and you have to do it in large quantities. So the process for that is then I have to print them by hand on a high quality printer, buy ink constantly (which is expensive), cut the boxes, fold the boxes, print the manual, cut the manual and map, and we're not even up to the point of packaging it and shipping it. Believe me, to make money on this makes no sense.
I basically do it because I like to. I love the idea of being able to play games on the original hardware rather than an emulator that haven't been available before. And having a box and manual for it just rounds out the experience.
Also, I recently removed the Stadium Events. It's more trouble than it's worth. As for the quantities available being 1000 that's just what the cart sets by default. I only make them by hand when people order them.

Generally I consider them bootlegs, they're usually things that were never available officially so they're similar to bootlegs in the music industry(unreleased recordings or live recordings not officially available for sale). I don't usually have a problem with them, though if you're just getting a loose cart made it would make more sense to me just to use a flash cart instead. I'm not sure why people prefer calling them repros instead of bootlegs, they're not actually reproducing anything as the games being made were usually never produced here in the first place.

They aren't "fake", they are just unlicensed. I doubt Nintendo cares about the reproduction market anyway.
They are not simply unlicensed, not if permission wasn't given from the rights holders of each game being reproduced. That's what I like about Super Fighter Team, the games are unlicensed as they aren't approved of by Nintendo or Sega for use on their systems, but they still get proper licensing from the companies that made the games before selling copies of them. These carts being made now as "repros" are bootlegs for sure.
I also found that Stadium Events cart to be strange, I get making these bootlegs to play rare games that most people won't be able to find anywhere but Stadium Events is the same game as World Class Track Meet with a different title screen. It's easy to find a playable copy, I could only see people buying them to swap the cases and change the label to sell them off craigslist to unaware collectors. I know there was someone making "repros" of Atari games like Pepsi Invaders or Music Machine, those are rare games where I could see these bootlegs being the only way for most people to play them on actual hardware. I just don't see Stadium Events being the same way.
I've been considering Genesis. Just don't know what games to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks for Suggestions for Genesis games
Concerning the SE Repro - Mine was heavily marked. Foil Box only. Word Repro water marked on every page of the manual. And the board itself was heavily marked. In the end though it's just not worth it. It creates to much of a stir and since this is for the most part a hobby for me I really don't need the headache

This is very interesting! I'll be sure to check out your site. I think it's awesome how people (like you) can continue these classics with your own story/plot/adventure.

This stuff looks really nice, but I'd only ever consider buying the non-foil ones.

I hope that's a good start, I'm sure there's more Genesis games than that for fan translations and prototypes. Also, It Came from the Desert was supposed to be released by EA so it would have been made in those EA sports cases. You might want to use those if you're going to make that game available.
As for the Stadium Events, if someone was going to sell it they would throw out the box and instructions and replace the label with a normal looking one. Making a repro is hard for most people as you need special equipment to write the chips and be good with soldering, replacing a label is much easier. I doubt that many people would check the board if buying it, even if it was sold locally for half of the going rate for a loose cart it would still be $500-$1000. Even on ebay some auctions don't take pictures of the board and the game still sells for over $1000. That's basically why I'm nervous of repros being made of rare games or replacement labels being used, unreleased or translated games don't bother me. You're not offering it anymore so there's nothing to worry about, I just wanted to clarify what some people could do with it.

It's cheaper to buy some shitty used game in good condition than pay for a new shell. Plus you can use the board, it's cheaper than buying a new board.

I don't have a issue with fan projects and games that never existed outside of that! Unlike common believe (who would have thought?) final fantasy 2 (just to stick with the example) is not a fan project and was released outside of japan in english, in many different versions, just pick your flavor, and if you are that diehard to play it on a nes then you better go and learn japanese, it's not that hard, just different, but that's the whole point of learning. 60$ buys you some great books to start out with.

It never was released on the NES in North America so it's pretty much ok to do, I believe it was just released on the Playstation, GBA, and PSP for North America. From what I found the English NES version is a fan translation as the original translation wasn't finished or available publically before this fan translation was made, it's an original translation not taken from anywhere else.
I also found a video of Ninja Gaiden on the Genesis. I'm not really sure how good it is to play though.

That Genesis Ninja Gaiden game is VERY unfinished. The script is total garbage and is obviously just a placeholder for the finished/edited script that was never implemented. Also, many of the levels are incomplete and can't be beaten. You have to use the level skip cheat to advance through them. The gameplay likewise leaves much to be desired, you have a very small repertoire of moves, and the animations for some seem incomplete.
I wouldn't recommend anyone make repros of this game unless it's for sheer novelty purposes. If you're expecting a completed unreleased game than look elsewhere.
For some more complete and decent unreleased Genesis games I'd suggest RESQ, Fido Dido, Stone Protectors, Dragon's Lair, Beast Ball, or any of the other stuff I mentioned in the list a few posts back.

Decent Hacks:
Sonic 2 Retro Remix
Knuckles The Echidna in Sonic 1
Sonic Megamix
Sonic 2 The Lost Worlds
Super Mario Bros. (Mairtrus Hack)
Mortal Kombat II Unlimited
I would like to add that many of the Sonic Hacks (but not all) have problems running on the actual Genesis hardware.
Sonic 2 Retro Remix - World Map functions do not work on a real Genesis
Sonic Megamix - Development moved to SegaCD/MegaCD
The S Factor- Music does not run correctly on Genesis hardware, glitches
Emperor Megas

I'd put a Fido Dido repro on my wishlist. I used to collect Fido Dido stuff BITD.

Yeah that's true, I forgot to mention that in the list. Although the last version of Megamix to be a cart release (before they moved to SCD runs perfectly on real hardware and is a lot more complete and significantly different from the CD counterpart). S Factor, isn't complete yet, they're still working on that one, so who knows what will happen with it. And same thing with Retro Remix as far as I know the guy that made it is still working on updates.
Sonic Lost Lands runs perfeclty, and it's awesome, it was actually the first repro I got. The SMB hacks also runs as it's supposed to, and so does the MKII hack, in case anyone was wondering.

I'm aware, but it's still final fantasy 2 in english in NA. Well i expressed my concern, i guess it doesn't make much sense going on about it anymore in this case. Does it? They look pretty well made though.

Yeah sorry I didn't mean to give the impression that they are all broken. When/If the S factor and Retro Remix are fixed and completed I would definitely pick up a cart of each of those with them both being fantastic hacks. (have yet to play the cart MegaMix, but the CD version was very impressive) It was only a warning though, I've played several Sonic hacks and the majority of them have not played properly on the actual hardware with a variety of issues, it would just be a shame to put out games that work fine in several emulators to only fail on a real Genesis/Mega Drive.

No problem man, when I get a minute I should go over that list I posted and include details about how possible/worthwhile it is to make repros of those games. As for the cart version of Megamix, you'll want to find the one that's v.3.0. It's the last cartridge version and is effectively a complete hack. When they ported it to Sega CD they basically changed a lot of things and it's almost like it became and entirely different project at that point.
Edit, here's the list ;)
Translations:
Alien Soldier - easy to repro, has been done before and works perfectly
Bare Knuckle III - easy to repro, has been done before and works perfectly
Gley Lancer - easy to repro, has been done before and works perfectly
King Colossus - fairly easy, though the battery save feature is a little trickier, however it's been reproed successfully
Megaman: The Wily Wars - same as above
Monster World IV - same as above
Pulseman - easy to repro, has been done before and works perfectly
Battle Mania Daiginjou (Battle Mania 2) - easy to repro, has been done before and works perfectly, not many people seem to make this one
Brave Battle Saga Legend of The Magic Warrior - another one that has battery save but otherwise is easy to do and has been done successfully in the past (great game btw)
Langrisser II - same as above
Phantasy Star 2: Amia's Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Phantasy Star 2: Anne's Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Phantasy Star 2: Eusis's Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Phantasy Star 2: Huey's Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Phantasy Star 2: Kind’s Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Phantasy Star 2: Nei's Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Phantasy Star 2: Rudger's Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Phantasy Star 2: Shilka’s Adventure - I've never seen anyone make a repro, don't know much about it
Sonic Eraser - easy to repro, has been done before and works perfectly
Twinkle Tale - easy to repro, has been done before and works perfectly
Undead Line - should be easy since it doesn't have any save features or anything, oddly enough I've never seen anyone do it, too bad too because it's an awesome game
Yuu Yuu Hakusho: Makyo Touitsusen - again, should be doable but I've never actually seen one made
Nadia The Secret of Blue Water - doable, has been done successfully, however a specific version of the patched ROM must be used
Unreleased Games:
Prince of Persia 2 - easy to do, but this game is F*cking terrible, probably not worth it
Jelly Boy - should be doable thought I haven't seen it done, also this game is hard as hell and I've never been able to beat it, so I'm not 100% sure that it's complete, it does appear to be though
Stone Protectors - doable, complete game, good one too
RESQ - doable, game is 100% complete
Wild Snake - doable, game is 100% complete
Baby's Day Out - not sure about this one, this game is too damn hard for me to test to see if it's complete or not, seems to be though
Waterworld - possibly complete, but again I can't figure out how to play this thing so I can't guarantee that it's complete
Jim Power - not entirely complete, but complete enough that you can play it through, pretty cool game
Dragon's Lair - 99.9% complete and playable, really cool game, repro is doable (only thing that's missing is an animation for dagger toss attack)
Beastball - 100% complete and doable
Fido Dido - 100% complete and doable
Itchy & Scratchy Game - another complete one that's doable and has been reproed in the past
Lobo - complete and doable, though this game isn't the best
Tetris - complete and doable and reproed hundreds of times
Decent Hacks:
Sonic 2 Retro Remix - currently doesn't work right on real hardware, but this hack is still under development
S-Factor - currently doesn't work right on real hardware, but this hack is still under development
Knuckles The Echidna in Sonic 1 - I haven't seen anyone make this, so I can't say for sure, but it should run on real hardware
Sonic Megamix - the last cart version V.3.0 will run on real hardware
Sonic 2 The Lost Worlds - awesome hack, 100% complete and will run on real hardware perfectly
Super Mario Bros. (Mairtrus Hack) - a complete port of the NES SMB, complete and completely compatible with real hardware
Mortal Kombat II Unlimited - will run on real hardware, has been reproed in the past
Pirate/Unlicensed Games:
Squirrel King - can be reproed but a Fixed ROM must be used
Super Bubble Bobble MD - can be reproed but a Fixed ROM must be used, has been reproed
Pocket Monsters - can be reproed but a Fixed ROM must be used
Pocket Monsters 2 - can be reproed but a Fixed ROM must be used
Smart Mouse - can be reproed but a Fixed ROM must be used
The Lord of the Rings Return of the King - can be reproed but a Fixed ROM must be used
Tiny Toon Adventures 3 - can be reproed but a Fixed ROM must be used
I hope that helps a little. Also if anyone has info about the games that I don't know much about, please do share.
