Hi im new to he forums but I thought you all could maybe help...

Recently I got a huge box of consoles and in it was a PAL Gamegear much to my delight. I never had one of these as a kid and I was really stoked to have a chance to own one now...and hey with high powered batteries with longer life (than a battery of the 90s) I might actually use it.

Anyway it turns on alright and the light goes on but alas, no image on the screen. I tried using a suitable power adapter but same result.

What do I need to do to get this thing working?

Does anyone have a schematic and if so which part will need fixing and what parts would I need?

I am in New Zealand and this is a PAL gamegear, though I am aware that the console is muti-zoned.

Cheers and be kind...I haven't owned a gamegear before.

The capacitors are probably dead. A member on www.atariage.com known as The.Golden.Ax can replace them for you for $30. But he is from the USA so you'd have to figure out shipping with him

If anyone has a schematic I could probably fix em myself...

Id ask over at www.smspower.org , there are more Sega 8 Bit enthusiasts over there that can help, its a great place for GG & SMS!

My GG's issues were resolved by replacing the caps. In my case though, I could see the image, but it could only be seen at a specific angle. Also, the sound was extremely low - barely could hear anything.

That said, I finally acknowledged my soldering skills are nonexistent, so I wound up farming it out, so I can't speak for the accuracy of the info. :S

It's easy enough that you won't need a schematic, but I have reference lists and maps in my wiki (http://console5.com/wiki/Game_Gear) - although I only have USA-based PCBs and lists shown. If you have something that doesn't match up I would love to know so I could add it.
