I think the next system I want to get is the SMS. I grew up on the NES completely unaware of the SMS. Then I got a Genesis shortly after they came out. This leaves me with a couple of problems. First, I don't know if I want to get an actual SMS or if I should just get the Power Base Converter for the Genesis. Is there any difference between paying SMS games on the SMS itself and playing on the PBC on a Genesis?

The other problem is games. I still have my Genesis and an NES. I also have a Game Gear. I've been looking through a list of games: Wikipedia List of SMS Games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sega_Master_System_games). The problem I run into is that I see a lot of games that are the same on the Game Gear. A lot that are better on the Genesis. And a lot of games that are on other systems. I'm looking for some suggestions for good games to get for the SMS. Games that were either exclusive or were better on the SMS than the NES.

Firstly, the search function could help you in this case since you're quite new and this forum has been around for a while. Not even two months ago a decent discussion was up: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?158286-Worthwhile-Master-System-Titles

As for your other questions:

First, I don't know if I want to get an actual SMS or if I should just get the Power Base Converter for the Genesis. Is there any difference between paying SMS games on the SMS itself and playing on the PBC on a Genesis?
In order to fit a Power Base Converter to a Genesis 2 you'll need to modify it, otherwise on a Genesis 1 it's fine. There is also the Master System Converter II but these are generally prohibitively expensive and uncommon. In using a PBC/MSCII the only issue is not being able to run F-16 Fighting Falcon.

The other problem is games. The Master System has plenty of good games, despite not having a supposed large core of system exclusive/desirable games. For example, Ninja Gaiden is on both Game Gear and Master System as you say but the games aren't close to being the same. I personally don't own many games but the games I do have are generally only on Master System (Choplifter, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, etc..) or are just good games (Wonder Boy 3, Shinobi, etc..). Needless to say, there are still games out there I'd want to get so really it's up to your taste and really reading up/gathering information on games you'd want to play (youtube is your friend).

As mentioned, see the other thread for game suggestions (I do suggest you use a Genesis controller though, as it's more comfortable than the SMS controller). *lock*
