Look in the lower-left hand corner of the game's front label and you'll see where it was made. Every single eBay auction I see right now looks to be for the Mexican version... Mexican versions (Majesco re-releases) have low-quality labels, so I tend to avoid them, especially when I'm buying rares. Does anyone know if, perhaps, Ogre Battle was only ever released through Majesco? ...or are collectors just holding onto their Japanese ones?

Not every game marked as made in Mexico is a re-release. Quite a few were just manufactured there, like Chrono Trigger for instance. That's all you're going to find!

My copy was made in Mexico and I don't think it was a rereleased copy, though I guess I could be wrong.

Was Ogre Battle even popular enough for a Majesco rerelease?

My copy is made in Mexico too.
About this: is the story about the production run (only 25.000 copies) true? If it's true i think every copy is made in Mexico...

It is not a Majesco release. It was simply produced during a period where Nintendo manufactured some games in Mexico. There are some games, such as Chrono Trigger, that were only produced there. There are other games, such as Secret of Evermore and Donkey Kong Country 3, that were mainly produced there, but later had a small run in Japan.

The difference is that Majesco games are "assembled" in Mexico, have no rear label, and have black & white manuals. Regular Nintendo releases are "made" in Mexico, have the usual rear label, and color manuals printed in the USA.

Somehow I doubt Majesco would re-release a game like Ogre Battle.
I don't know if anyone's bothered to track which games Majesco re-released, but from the games I'm aware of they seem to be smaller games (was the 12-meg Mega Man X their largest?) without battery backup, and generally license-based games (Looney Tunes, Disney, etc.), definitely seems to be kid-friendly. (I think they re-released Contra III, which I'd still count since it doesn't have blood/language, etc.)

Made in Mexico here, and I'm 99% certain I got the game in 1994 (maybe 95, but no later than that). The carts are not cheap quality, don't worry about it.

Nintendo moved a bunch of their manufacturing to Mexico later in SNES era. Just because it says "Made in Mexico" does not mean it is a Majesco re-release.

A CRITICAL distinction! My Chrono Trigger, DKC3, and Secret of Evermore were all *Made* in Mexico. I've been avoiding buying rares with "Mexico" anywhere on the bottom-left corner of the front label because those Majesco labels are terrible, but the ones that were Made in Mexico, while not necessarily QUITE as good as the Japanese ones, are much, much better than the Assembled in Mexico labels.

Thanks for helping me out! I guess I'll be buying Ogre Battle in the near future ^_^.
