Anyone here play and enjoy the gb titles?
I owned the first four as a kid and loved them all. Played through them many times. Played GB MM5 years later and didn't like it.

Never played them, I've been looking to pick them up, just haven't really seen them yet

Has anybody have a pic of Megaman X or Megaman X2 for PC?
I haven't heard of MMX2 being released on PC. I know the first was, saw it back in the day (and I believe, at least in the US, both that and SSF2 also included a free game controller).

Yeah X1&X3 were for the PC, oddly X2 never happened.
I too had the GB Mega Man games. It was a bit love/hate though. They didn't (and can be said for also Megaman and Bass GBA, and XTreme 1&2 GBC) ever properly design them for the confines of the smaller resolution screens. IN the end you'd have very cramped non-scrolling rooms for the boss fights making them all but impossible not to take a beating due to lack of room to move. Stages weren't too terrible, but some had some ugly leaps of faith or really fast easily ending in death oops moments due to stuff coming on quick and/or fast again due to not resizing stuff between to the small square screen.
I only currently have MM1+2 for GB, wont' buy the rest as they're just too infuriating to even bother with anymore for me. I thought they were neat in the day having half the robots of one NES title and half from the NES on a game for a weird mix and 5 was just screwy being all unique.

I love megaman but capcom lost me with all of the battle network shit. I'm not saying it's bad, I just kinda threw up my hands at that point since I'm not much for handheld games anyway.Pretty much anything besides the main series and the X titles, I couldn't give a hang about. I played Legends a long time ago and while I did enjoy that, it seems to me that could be called anything and it would be it's own thing. It didn't feel like a megaman game.

Jealous. That is the game I want for my Neo Geo Pocket the most. On a sidenote, has anyone played Wily Wars for Genesis? Is it any good? Worth playing?

Most I played of the gb titles are the roms, they're pretty fun, some challenging as hell to the point you want to rip your hair out. Somehow managed to finish the first 2, I don't remember if I finished 3 though.
edit: Trying my hand with MM6 on MMAC now. Just finished stocking up on e-tanks in Blizzard Man's stage, now for the 2 castles.

So I up visiting my parents and decided to hit every Thrift Store and used video game place I could find in the area looking for deals. Pretty much a complete bust, BUT I did find a loose disc copy of Mega Man 8 for PS1 at a Thrifty Shopper for 3 bucks. It's cool because this is the last (main series) Mega Man game I've yet to ever play.

Did it, Mega Man 6 was completed. Easy final battle with Wily. Had more difficulty at times getting to the bosses in the 2 castles than anything else. and fighting the 8 RM again was a complete pain in the butt. What's next?

The person who posted the photo owns it, maybe he can tell you. Personally I'd say it's not worth owning. There is some extra material beyond the first three games but given how expensive the game is, it is not worth a purchase.

Just picked up Mega Man X5 on PS1, played it a little and I like it a lot. The PS1 Mega Man games are all very good so far. But does anybody know why the bosses in X5 are named after Guns 'N Roses band members???

Knowing Mega Man naming nomenclature when it comes to rock music it's probably completely intentional.
Love my IBM version.....not

Aheh I think I had that. It was so bad, and lost to the mists of time because I hated it so much. NOW I wish I still had my copy.

I remember for a long time that there was a rumored PC release of X2 overseas. I'm pretty sure it never happened. The PC port of X3 is essentially the PSX version, which makes sense considering that almost every Capcom release on PSX was ported to Windows. The DOS release of X1 is pretty bad, but the PSX ports are very good. Then there are the odd Hi-Tech Expressions games, which are purely for novelty.
I've played through 4 and 5 in the last few months, and I still think 4 is challenging enough. It's more forgiving than 3 or 1, but I wouldn't say it's an easy game. I agree that 5 is a bit of a pushover, but 6 is without a doubt the easiest. Once you get past Plant Man and get the Jet Adapter, you can literally fly through the rest of the game. The hardest part of 6 is getting started and knocking out Plant Man first. The only really difficult part of 5 is the seemingly random falling crystals in Crystal Man's stage, but I still think 6 is easier.

Magic Man from Mega Man & Bass is my new nemesis. God this game is hard

Are you playing the SFC or the GBA version? GBA is harder. The nitwits porting it didn't think to adjust to the smaller resolution screen so the robot masters and mega man fill up a lot more area making it much harder to dodge attacks and movement. Love the SFC game can't stand the GBA one so bad the last one I cut into 2 pieces to save someone else the headache had I sold it. :)

LOL I have the GBA version. I heard it was good but very hard... and god were they right. This is a difficult game. I actually do enjoy it, but its frustrating as hell. I'm sure that if I had the chance to play the SFC version I would never want to touch the GBA cart again, but since this is all I have... ignorance is bliss i guess.

You're missing out on some truly excellent games by ignoring the Battle Network series. Battle Network is very different from the traditional 2D action platformers, but that alone doesn't mean it's bad. What you got is essentially Megaman cross Magic the Gathering. The freedom and flexibility the chip folder system allows for makes the Battle Network games engaging to play and interesting, even if you don't care for the cookie-cutter kid's RPG plots. In addition, the best entries in the series combined a number of other interesting mechanics to further deepen the experience.
I can see how an outsider looking at the Battle Network games could be jaded to just giving up on the concept altogether - the games were yearly affairs that from a glace seemed little more than the typical roster updates you saw for the yearly madden title. Just like they did with the six classic games on NES, Capcom recycled assets like mad with the six GBA Battle Network games.
Just like the classic Megaman games, you need to play the first Battle Network for a good few hours to understand the series well enough to move onto the other entries. While the plots are very basic, each of the sequels assumes you already know established characters and their relationships to each other. Since this is all established in the first game, that's the one you should play first, even though it's not the best the series has to offer.
The second game is more refined and deeper than the first and is worth playing, but isn't necessary if you're only causally interested in the series. The real action is Battle Network 3, which is like the second game on steroids. 3 offers tons of refinements and improvements as well as a more focused story that actually goes somewhere, better chips and the introduction of the NaviCust which makes the experience tailor suited to the player's preferences. It came in two versions, but the differences are only in post game content. I would recommend Blue instead of White as it has Folderback, a chip that lets you reuse your entire folder a second time, useful in boss battles.
Skip 4. It's not a bad game, but it is filled with numerous annoying fetch quests and has some of the worst typos I've come across in recent memory.

Battle Network 5 tries it's own thing and while not terribly bad, it's not terribly good either. You can skip it.
The series ended with Battle Network 6, and t went out with a bang. 6 is everything 3 was but bigger, better and louder. Tons and tons of little touches were added to ensure the best experience possible given the RPG framework. This is a game that I absolutely love and I feel best represents the sunset of the GBA itself, as this was one of the final games released for the GBA that wasn't a port of something else and was worth playing. It doesn't matter which version you go with - choose your preference - a raging hell-beast, or a demonic phoenix. Which is cooler to you?
Regardless, give them a try! Battle Network isn't my all time favorite Megaman series, but i do think it gets overlooked simply because it isn't a bunch of platformers like the rest.

Thanks a lot for a good in depth review of the series. I'm a huge mega man fan and never really knew enough about them to want to start into the series. I'm gonna start looking for the first one now though and try to get started.

I think from what he said I would start with 1 as they ease you into the series/gameplay more than the others... but after that yeah it looks like 3 or 6 would be the way to go
