What is your favorite video game of all time? It can be current or retro, from any video game system or online game market like PSN and XBOXlive... but you can only choose one.
For me it is Resident Evil 4. I love every game in this series from the first through number 5 (and I can barely wait for 6), but I think 4 was the ultimate achievement. The over the shoulder camera angle was a great addition to the game, the sighting with the guns was great, the scenery and levels were amazing, the enemies were creepy and original, it was challenging without being impossible, it had plenty of secrets and things to search for in the game, a ton of replay value (I beat it 5 or so times), great graphics, smooth gameplay, great extras like mercenaries mode... honestly I can't say anything bad about it. Just the perfect game for me

Mr. Do! for the Super Nintendo. Great conversion of my favorite arcade game, plus a two-player battle mode.

As for me, it has to be Katamari Damacy. It is still a game I play regularly. So addicting.

Super Metroid for Super Famicom, and then followed oh so closely by P.N. 03 for GameCube. It's almost a tie.
Wizard's Crown on A8, best ever RPG out there, difficult as hell, I managed to finish it within a year.

1. The Addams Family Pinball Machine (Arcade). It's always the first game that comes to mind whenever this topic comes up and it's ironic in that I don't own the machine (someday....oh, someday!).
Honorable Mentions...
Dragon Force (SAT)
Age of Mythology (PC)
Mega Man 2 (NES)
Jikkyou! Oshaberi Parodius (SFC)

When I feel like playing a game, I'll take out Super Mario 64 and play around a bit. Fun game with a lot of places to go. N64 is also my favorite multiplayer console. Mario Party, Super Smash Bros, GoldenEye, Donkey Kong 64, and Banjo-Tooie's multiplayer are all there.
And when I was young I loved Spyro 3. I got everything in it, but unfortunatly the disc doesn't work anymore
Also Minecraft. Another one of my favorite games. I can play for hours without getting bored.

Time Pilot, pissed away a fortune (for a 10 year-old) on that arcade gem. Now, I just pop in Konami Arcade Classics.

Resident evil 2. That game showed me that video games could be epics.
Strangely red dead redemption has recently given me that same feeling.

Assault - arcade
I cant even put into words how awesome this game is.
Absolutely cutting edge graphics and sound for its time. Superbly realized so that it holds up perfectly today.
Timeless.
The tank controls provide a cirtifiable arcade experience.
Game intensity ramps up continually through all 11 levels.
No story text is presented, yet the graphic emvironments give the player a strong sence of the world and conflict. You are simply fighting to reclaim your homelamd. One tank against 100's.
I found out about Assault back when the SNES was revealed. I asked a school mate what scaling and rotation was and he said "you know, like that tank game over at the East Mall"
No, I didn't know. But when I found out, I was hooked.
Assault was, and forever will be, the perfect complement of music, graphics, challange, and control interface. When those drums and guitars kick-up in the BGM, and the screen is spinning and shifting lihtning fast around your tank, the two 4-way control-sticks awinging and snapping in unison and opposite each other, pure twitch finger action on the fire buttons, and whole body swaying and rocking in reaction to it all. Now that is one hype videogame!
also available on Namco Museum Vol.4, compatible with rotated vertical tv, and Sony Analog Joystick. The big Sony twin-sticks take a lot of getting used to, but still are a superb interface for Assault. On a PS2 it also plays a bit slower than the arcade. (I've yet to compare it on an original Playstation)

For Arcade, GRAVITAR is my favoite. I use to own a mint arcade of this game, and unfortunately I sold it. I would love to have one again. I heard they make a vector multicade. I would love to have Asteroids, Missle Command, Gavitar, Tempest, etc., one one arcade machine.
As for console games, I would have to give Micro Machines a slight edge over Rock 'n Roll Racing. I love both those games, but if you factor in all the Genesis(Mega Drive) versions of Micro Machines, it barely wins.

I have to agree with this. It's a tough choice picking 1 as your all time favorite. But thinking about it, I just never get tired of this game. It's one of the fewest games I own multiple copies of. Sealed black label, sealed GH label, Used Black Label and GH Label, Konami's greatest hits etc. etc. I've beaten it countless times but I can still pick this game up and play it until I lose track of time. Super Metroid would be a close second.

If the question had been favorite game of current generation, Red Dead Redemption would be my choice. I believe it to be the best game of the current gen by far.
