I finally have my entertainment center put back together, although I need to buy some stuff before we can finish with the PC Engine A/V cable, SNES plug, and N64 power switch issue. No big deal there, as those bits and pieces can easily be incorporated in later on.

With that cleaned up, I decided to pull my PC-FX out again. I've bought a few new games for the system, and so far three have showed up. I tried out Boundary Gate, First Kiss Story, and Tengai Makyou. But the real reason I wanted to have the PC-FX out again is to finally play through Chip-chan Kick. I've been looking forward to playing this one for a while. I love me a good Bubble Bobble-style game. I'm playing with all the default difficulty settings, and I've made it up to Stage 5. Each "stage" actually consists of 10 levels, though, and the tenth of each has a pretty tough boss. Took a lot of practice to clear the bosses of stages 2 and 4, although 1 and 3 weren't too bad. Seems like the boss of stage 5 is a real doozy too, and the normal levels are picking up in difficulty as well. I believe there are only six stages, though, so I don't think I'm all that far from the end.

Dissidia 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy

I didn't know this game contained the entire original Dissidia storyline. Also, load times were driving me nuts. After installing the original Dissidia back in its day, and Gran Turismo (which also features horribly long loads) my default 2GB memory stick couldn't handle even the smallest install for Duodecim. Since it includes all the content from the first game, I just went ahead and deleted that install and waited the 1.5 hours it took to do the maximum install for Duodecim. Now, thankfully, the load times are bearable.

How did you like Virtual Prowrestling 2? I have the first one but haven't gotten around to play it yet. But because it's by the same company it probably plays like the WCW/WWF/WWE games by Yukes and THQ.

I played alittle bit of Mario Pinball Land on GBA to test out a recent find. It was actually pretty fun. Also been playing Pac-Man Championship edition and COD: Black Ops 2 on 360.

I cleared the stage 5 boss in Chip-chan Kick! on PC-FX faster than I expected, and the final boss wasn't too bad either. After beating the game, I replayed on Easy, although I set it so each continue only had 1 life, so one hit and I had to restart a stage/boss, short of earning extra lives myself. It was a pretty interesting way to play the game, both easy and challenging in ways. Then I started up a game on Hard, and did the opposite by maxing out the number of lives per continue (five). I never got past the first boss. It's an easy boss on both Easy and Normal, but, man, it's ridiculous on Hard. I blew through all of my continues, and then I decided that I had my fill of Chip-chan Kick! for now. I wasn't in the mood to start up another PC-FX game immediately so I packed the system away, but it'll come out again soon enough when some more recent purchases arrive. Maybe then I'll pick something else to play on PC-FX.

I figured I'd finally start up Final Fantasy V via Final Fantasy Anthology on my PlayStation 2. I normally would play it on my original PlayStation, but for some reason, my system just hates Final Fantasy Anthology. The opening FMV stutters like crazy, and it crashes mid-game. On my PS2, though, it runs perfectly. I'm actually surprised at how well it's running, considering I heard that the game has issues with the PS2, scrambling the graphics on the save screen. From what I've read, it seems like Squaresoft did a really crappy job with this compilation. Not even getting into the longer load times, it seems like whether you're using a PlayStation, PS2, or PS3, problems with how the game runs are extremely common. Supposedly the Greatest Hits version fares better, but I wanted the music CD so I got the original.

Anyway, I've been meaning to play Final Fantasy V for a long time, although I can't exactly say I've been looking forward to doing so. Maybe it's the definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over and expecting things to change), but I've been going through the series one by one, hoping to someday find one that will make me understand why the series is so loved. I do very much enjoy some of the spin-offs, like Tactics and Mystic Quest, but of the mainline, numbered Final Fantasy games I've beaten (1-4 and 7), at best, I can say some were so-so, others worse yet. So I go into Final Fantasy V with the knowledge that I very well may be underwhelmed, but at least the momentum is in my favor (7 was my least favorite of the ones I've beaten, but of 1-4, I've liked each game slightly better than the one before it). And I love Chrono Trigger, which was made by Final Fantasy staff and has a fair number of similarities (the ATB system, for one), so you'd think there's potential for me to like mainline Final Fantasy. From what I've seen of FFVI, that one seems pretty appealing, so I have high hopes for it. But I don't want to skip ahead, so first I'll tackle FFV. I have a couple hours on the clock so far, and I'm in the ship graveyard. I like the brisk pace so far, and I'm glad I have access to jobs now because it was getting a little dull with no options but "Fight" before. So far, I've made Bartz a Knight, Reina a White/Black/Blue Mage, Galuf a Monk (and he DESTROYS everything, holy cow), and Faris a Thief. Having a Thief is probably most important to me because I like how I can see secret passageways and zip around the screen lightning fast.

Wow, same here. Just started last night! I love love love Exdeath so much in Dissidia/Duodecim that I had to play this game, though I bought the compilation only for FFVI ten years ago.

Nice. :) Seems like a lot of people are playing Final Fantasy V lately, what with that Four Job Fiesta thing going on too.

I've clocked in about 7 hours now myself, and I just got my third set of jobs. Still sticking with my Knight, Monk, and Thief, probably until I max those jobs out, but I've been cycling through even more mage-type jobs with Reina. The whole escape sequence I just did was pretty nuts. I remember the one in Final Fantasy VII, which I believe was also for 10 minutes, yet despite the story and music trying to give the part urgency, it fell flat because you could easily clear the area before using up even half of the time. In Final Fantasy V, I literally had 5 SECONDS left. The boss battle that appeared at the end out of nowhere was intense. Not because it was hard, but because I was trying to race through it as the last seconds ticked away.

I'm up to around 13 or 14 hours in Final Fantasy V via Final Fantasy Anthology on my PlayStation 2. I'm in the middle of the ruins past the Sand Tides (which was a pretty irritating area). I'm finally getting pretty close to maxing out my Knight, Monk, and Thief jobs, so I'm looking forward to trying out some new jobs on those characters.

Ack, you are getting ahead of me Aussie2B.. I've jumped around so much with the jobs that I've probably gimped myself a bit and will likely have to stop to grind. I still have Bartz as a Knight, as he has been all along. However Galuf has gone from Monk, to Berserker, to Ninja, to thief, back to Ninja, back to Monk. I made Reina the typical RPG trope of wispy magic user starting with White Mage, then to Summoner, and now she is a Red Mage. Faris started as a Black Mage, then to Time Mage, then back to Black Mage. I really haven't studied the job system so I'm just gonna keep hoppin around until the game smacks me around for it. I'd like to mess around with Hunter, Geomancer and the monster trainer classes too..

-Though I generally love the music, the world map theme drives me nuts
-Battles every two steps
-NPCs always get in the damn way

I'm gettin' better all the time... :onfire:

Still playing Final Fantasy V (Anthology ver.)

Got to the Ronka Ruins, did some grinding for an hour or so. Geomancer worked great here, to avoid pits, and the wind attack killed entire enemy parties in one hit! Got to the boss and was summarily annihilated. Guess I'll be grinding against these hypnotoads for the next couple hours... luckily I brought enough supplies to grind almost indefinitely.

Sounds like we're pretty much at the exact same point in the game. I just finished with the Ronka Ruins and saved. The boss was pretty easy for me, but only because I already did some grinding before that. I was having some trouble with the center cannon on the outside of Ronka, so I leveled up a couple times on those Mini-dragons where Ramuh used to be. Then I did some more grinding to get a character up to a level that's a multiple of 4 in order to get all the Blue Magic that could be learned in Ronka.

I wouldn't worry about how you're leveling up the jobs. I've been checking some FAQs to go over what I've already done and see if there's anything I missed, and many actually recommend using all the jobs with everybody and keeping the levels pretty balanced. If anything, maybe I have the gimped party. I've mastered Knight, Monk, and Thief on Bartz, Galuf, and Faris respectively, though, so now I've made Bartz a Berserker, Galuf a Hunter, and Faris a Ninja. I'm not that impressed with the Hunter job so far, but I'm surprised at how good Berserker is. I figured it was more of a gag job, since you can't control your character, but Bartz is just destroying everything with the 2-Handed ability I got from the Knight job and some good hammer that I think I stole at some point. I was also worried that being in "berserk" mode would be like being confused, but no problem there since they only attack the enemies. Faris is a great Ninja too. I've got two Moonrings on her for back row attacking, and I've been using all those LightningSkills I picked up while sailing around in the Fire Ship.

Dissidia 012 Duodecim -- Finishing 013 Story mode, which is really just the original Dissidia's content again, with some tweaks.

Final Fantasy V -- Near the moogle forest, just doing some leveling. Faris is now a chemist for no reason, and Reina, a knight. I just want her to do actual damage for awhile without resorting to magic. Switched Bartz to a samurai before fighting the 'Battle on the Big Bridge'. The TOSS$ attack killed that boss in two hits. It was great to hear the 'Battle on the Big Bridge' theme in the actual game it hails from, after listening to it during numerous battles in Dissidia and Dissidia Duodecim.

My dad got me a copy of Frozen Synapse from Steam. In return I paid for his copy of the DLC for it. I tried a little bit of it today. Man that game is hard. Lots of micro-managing in there, and one mistake almost surely means a failed mission. I haven't even completed Mission 1 yet; I'm in the third part of it.

Hah, I had the same kind of experience with that song. I had been anticipating it for a while, wondering if it was literally played during a battle on a bridge or if it was just some random made-up title. It's the only song from the game I had much familiarity with prior to playing since I've heard arrangements on The Black Mages album and elsewhere.

Anyway, I'm only slightly past the Moogle Forest. Just got Dragon Grass for the second time. Kind of a lame dungeon since it felt like a total rehash. I mastered my first job with Reina (Blue Mage), but the rest are still plugging away at the same jobs.

I just prestiged in Black Ops II for the first time...and I hate it. I don't mind starting back over at level 1 but I hate having to unlock everything again, from weapons to perks. Luckily it's a double XP weekend so I've ranking up faster. I think the next time I hit level 55 I will stay there instead of going for prestige level 2.

I decided to play Castlevania (NES). I don't think that I've ever beaten it legitimately (without the assistance of save states), so I decided to give it another try. I have fond memories of renting it as a kid, must have been back in about 1991, and I remember having to go to the mall with my mother and sitting in the middle concourse reading and re-reading the instructions for what seemed an eternity. The place we used to rent from no longer rents games of any kind, but I remember the experience of walking into the shop and having to go to the back were they had game and VHS rentals. Instead of putting the games behind boxes (like many rental stores did), they had small cards with the cover of the game on the front (I don't remember if they had backs or not), and you would take the card to the counter and they would find the game from bookshelves located behind the counter. Essentially you had to blindly pick a game based solely on the cover if you hadn't played it before. All the NES games came in those plastic clamshells with photocopied instructions. Anyway, this particular day I chose Castlevania, because the cover is AWESOME (even to this day). I don't think I ever passed the second level where you had to time the jumps with the flying Medusa heads. I made it a bit further tonight, didn't lose a live until Stage 10 (the level immediately following the Mummies) , where I quickly mistimed several jumps, fell in the water, and repeated until I lost all four of my lives. I just looked at the clock and it's getting too late for another attempt tonight, I'll give it another try tomorrow. I would like to finally beat a few games out of my NES backlog.

I'm midway through Moore Forest in Final Fantasy V via Final Fantasy Anthology on my PlayStation 2, and, man, this area really annoys me. The way that the layering is done is really disorienting, and maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems like the encounter rate is ridiculously high in there. I'll be glad when I'm all done with this area. But at least the battles give a decent number of ability points. I've mastered a few more jobs since my last post. Bartz mastered Berserker and then I mastered Geomancer surprisingly fast with him too. Now I have him as a Samurai, but I'm not that impressed so far because the coin toss wastes way too much gold. Galuf finished with Hunter as well, so now I have him as a Lancer. Faris is getting fairly close to finishing with her Ninja job, but Reina is probably going to stay a Red Mage for a long time (takes a whopping 999 ABP for the last level).

I'm definitely behind you now, Aussie.. I'm saved right before the Dragon Grass boss. I actually like the Samurai for Bartz, I've killed all the bosses in one to two hits with $TOSS. I'm cheap like that, plus there doesn't seem to be a heck of a lot to buy in this game. Armor, weapons, and magic only seem to be new every 3 towns or so.

I've played further than this, but have a strange habit while playing RPGs; I tend to play through most scenarios twice as I go. So, I play a bit, don't save, play it again and save, then play some more and don't save. Obviously I don't waste time grinding for the trial runs..

I'm glad we get to ride the dragon again, because that is one of my favorite music tracks in the game! Reminds me of the Landmaster theme from Phantasy Star IV.. another one I like a lot. Anywho, I'll try to catch up to you shortly.

I've noticed the issues you mentioned regarding layers and confusing pathways, as well as increased encounter rates, but I find VI to be somewhat more annoying when it comes to unclear paths. Actually, FF as a series seems to have a problem with this. VII actually added an option to turn on arrows which point out where the doorways are.

I had to create a new world in Terraria. I realized, after defeating the Wall of Flesh, that I was not careful enough to protect my buildings from the effects of the Hallow and Corruption in Hardmode. So when I made the new world, I transferred as many important items as I could find, then harvested tons of dungeon bricks and built a high-rise apartment building where all the NPCs can live, without worrying about the building getting corrupted.

Which means it's probably going to take me another 30 hours to get back to the point I was at in the previous world, lol.

Nearing the end of Bioshock Infinite on my XBOX 360 right now. I'm really enjoying the story and the atmosphere but I'm not sure I like the gameplay as much as the original Bioshock. Still having a lot of fun with it though. I'm also playing Pikmin 3, just started a few days ago. I highly recommend it, they made a lot of changes to the mechanics and a lot of different puzzles than the first two games which are really making a huge difference.

I'm also replaying Ocarina of Time and Metroid Prime right now. It's been a while for me.

My progress in Final Fantasy V via Final Fantasy Anthology on my PlayStation 2 has slowed down a good deal. It's a combination of the dungeons getting a lot bigger and tougher and also the fact that it's starting to feel like it's dragging on some. I have over 40 hours on the clock, but I was ready for it to come to an end by the time I hit 30 (really, I prefer most RPGs to not be longer than 20-30 hours, unless it's something I REALLY love). I still want to see all that the game has to offer, though, so I'm chugging away at the optional stuff. Right now the only required dungeon I have left is the final dungeon, but there's loads of optional things to do. I've acquired 6 of the 12 sealed weapons, and I just cleared Fork Tower so now I have the submarine again and can get to the two other dungeons with lithographs. But I have more beyond that. I still need to get the Mimic job and clear Phoenix Tower too.

Well, my progress slowed way ahead of yours. I have about 18 hours on the clock and I just got the sealed book at the library of the ancients. Totally bored with this, tired of grinding, just want it to end. I've been skipping battles and just throwing gil at the bosses to progress. I'm grinding gil more than exp at this point, just need cash to bribe, er.. defeat the next boss.

While on the road today I put some time into Mario Kart 7. I was playing some balloon mode and had no idea what I was doing but it helped pass 20 minutes by. When I got home I played some Halo 4 and Pac-Man World Championship.

My main plays right now are, E.V.O. Search for Eden, Ninja Spirit and I just got D&D Eye of the Beholder. More evo right now since its new for me. I just got to the mammal stage the other day. There is a lot of evo collecting that gets a little tiresome but the drive to see what your evolve will look like keeps it going. Beating the queen bee was hell.

Seems like 50 is the magic number for me with Final Fantasy V via Final Fantasy Anthology. I beat the game with about 50 hours on the clock, my characters were around level 50, and they had learned an average of 50 skills a piece. I wanted to beat the game days ago, but beating the optional bosses Omega and Shinryu was a real bitch. I ended up spending some time grinding both for EXP and ABP. It was easy to level up jobs in the very last area, and when I was done, I had every job mastered with at least one character (most jobs two times over, some even more). I don't get why the max level would be 99, though, because even with the best enemies in the game for EXP, it still takes a stupidly long amount of time to level up once you get around the high 40's. I only grinded a couple levels before I said to hell with that. Like usual for Final Fantasy games, the optional bosses are designed really badly and make for an annoying, unsatisfying experience. Basically, you either take advantage of one or two weaknesses, following the same strategy as virtually every other player, or you get utterly destroyed. Well, you could also grind forever and possibly get by with a different strategy, but that's no fun either. I didn't like the traditional strategies I was reading online, so I went with the less-used status afflictions approach. I used Stop on Omega, by having three bards constantly singing Love Song, and for Shinryu, I used Berserk on him and had a Summoner cast Golem over and over. Anyway, once I had them licked, I had absolutely no problems with Exdeath. Beat him on my very first try, so it was a little anticlimactic. One thing that's kind of a bummer is that I thought I was doing well about finding all the hidden treasures in the game, but after getting to the last save point and then returning to the old psychic man in the underwater cave, I found out I was still at 98%. Oh well.

Overall, I'd say the game is better than any other numbered Final Fantasy I've beaten (1-4 and 7), but I still wasn't particularly impressed. I don't care about story that much in games, even RPGs, but if the story and characters are going to be as paper thin and generic as they are here, then I expect really engaging gameplay to make up for that. While the job system definitely makes the gameplay more interesting than in any other Final Fantasy I've beaten (and the game isn't piss-easy like 7 and the US version of 4), it still doesn't offer quite enough depth and variety for me. I'm still looking for a "whole package" Final Fantasy for me to enjoy. One that has charming characters, a unique identity in terms of story and setting, and gameplay that's interesting and fun. FF7 at least had balance between story and gameplay, but both areas were lacking in my eyes (gameplay was too slow and easy, and the setting and characters weren't appealing to me). But I have high hopes for FF6. From what I've seen of my fiance playing it, the story and characters do strike me as interesting, and I like how each character has his or her own unique gameplay identity. The music also seems quite a bit better in that one. But I need to take a break from Final Fantasy for a while before I consider digging into the next one.

I haven't really started anything up since beating Final Fantasy V, I might just wait until Sweet Fuse comes out since I'm planning on playing through that, but I have been trying out some recent purchases.

On the Western front, I tried out Patapon 2 for PSP. It can be a little tricky finding UMD copies of this game (as opposed to the original release that contained a digital voucher), so I wanted to get it sooner than later. Seems fun, but I've yet to even play through the first Patapon.

I'm still bringing in a lot of new (to me) imports, so I tried out a few more. Even though my SNES cable has yet to be fixed, I got it working long enough to try out Romancing SaGa 2. Seems interesting, but nowhere near as pretty as Romancing SaGa 3. Like with Patapon, I've yet to beat ANY SaGa game (well, besides Final Fantasy Legend), so this will be saved for down the road. Then I fired up my Japanese PlayStation 2 to try out a couple PS1 games: The Vision of Escaflowne and Ganbare Goemon: Kurunarakoi! Ayashigeikka no Kuroikage (man, these Goemon titles). I've heard negative things about both, but as a fan of the Goemon series and the Escaflowne anime, I still wanted them. Escaflowne really wasn't that bad, it's just really thin on gameplay. Between all of the cutscenes, there's nothing but some pathetically basic maze areas (with no challenge and nothing to discover; you just have to work your way to the spot that triggers the next scene) and some very simple, short mecha battles. But I could see myself enjoying this between watching episodes of the show. As for Goemon... I wasn't expecting it to be this awful, haha. Even with the poor reviews, I thought "It's Goemon, how bad can it be?" But, man, first off, it looks terrible. There are polygonal seams EVERYWHERE. And I'm not talking from the perspective of playing modern games and then thinking all PS1 games look terrible. These seams are far beyond what you'd see in the average PS1 game. And the camera is pulled in so close that you can't see crap. But it was even worse when I got to the gameplay. What is this hack 'n' slash nonsense? It's like I'm playing a bad Goemon beat-em-up. The enemies take a million hits, so I was just tediously mashing away on the attack button endlessly. I'm used to Goemon games being either platformers or Zelda-style adventure games (with the occasional odd spin-off like the Japan-exclusive N64 Goemon game). This one is just poo. Although I suppose the fact that it came from Konami's Nagoya studio was a bad sign right from the start. They definitely weren't one of Konami's top tier studios (creating awful games like Castlevania Legends and the US-released Game Boy Goemon).

I picked up Final Fantasy V again. I've come to the conclusion that if it leaves my PS2 unbeaten, it likely will never return from the depths of my backlog. I'm playing through the pyramid part, with about 18 hours on the clock. My characters are level 35. These enemies are annoying.

I throw money at everything.

I pulled out my PC-FX again to try some more newly acquired imports. I popped in Konpeki no Kantai and Angelique: Tenkuu no Requiem. Couldn't really figure out the former, but the Angelique RPG seems like something I could enjoy.

But for my next game to play through all the way, I decided to go with Hammerin' Hero on PSP. It hasn't been in my collection long, but after dropping my collection list into random.org/lists and seeing it come up near the top, I decided it was the perfect game to start up right now. It should be pretty quick, I imagine, which is good because, besides wanting something short after Final Fantasy V, I want my plate clear in time for Sweet Fuse. I also love me a good side-scrolling 3D platformer (or "2.5D" as people used to say back in the day). Late last night, I only played long enough to clear the first stage (playing on the standard difficulty) and read all the stuff in the menus. I really like all the different stuff you read about the characters, enemies, the thank you letters from townspeople, etc. Really expands upon the game and gives it even more charm than it already had to begin with.

It won't help with the bosses, but if you keep building up that Samurai, you'll eventually learn Fdraw, which is an insta-kill attack with a little bit of charge time but no MP cost that targets all enemies and has a ridiculously good success rate. It's an easy way to blow through random battles and collect EXP, and then you could save the cash for the bosses.

I stayed up late last night and beat Hammerin' Hero on PSP on Artisan difficulty. All the R-Type references are pretty cute, although the choice for the final boss is a little odd. But it's a quirky game all around, so I guess it makes sense in that regard. :) Then after beating it on the standard difficulty, I beat it on Apprentice (AKA easy) with Kanna to get even more souvenirs. I got 100% of the Kuromoku Personnel Files, but I'm at about 80% of the Thank You Letters and still need around half of the souvenirs. Of course, there's no way I'll be getting 100% of the souvenirs regardless because they stupidly made some require using the ad hoc multiplayer mode. I'm guessing this was in the Japanese version too, which is kind of dumb to begin with, but considering how niche a game like this would be in the US, Atlus REALLY should've changed the souvenirs. I mean, how many people in the US have actually used the multiplayer mode? I highly doubt all that many, as I bet the game itself didn't sell in large quantities. I know I definitely don't have any friends with the game. Anyway, I also have a whole bunch of recipes to discover, and I still need to gather a couple more ingredients.

I finally started playing Dishonored. I'm enjoying it, though I'm not the stealthiest assassin around. Pretty much anyone I see ends up getting killed. But without knowing too much about the game in advance, I like it as I experience new things. The real test will be how inclined I am to do a second playthrough after beating the game plus all the DLC.

Mega Man 5,4,6,and 3. I don't know why that order, but the MM games are always a fun test of reflexes that pay off. I'mm glad they made so many NES MM games, even though they're supposedly redundant after 3, i think 4, 5 and 6 are my favorite. Namely for the charge shots and Centaur Man-the weirdest original MM boss i think..

I still haven't finished with Hammerin' Hero on PSP. I've gotten all but one of the Thank You Letters, but I know I need Mika for that. And I can't unlock her until I beat the entire game on Master, so I've mostly been working on that. All I have left is the final stage. I've already cleared a few stages on National Treasure too. I've gotten several more souvenirs since my last post, and I also collected one of every ingredient. I'm still only at 60-some percent on recipes, though. Once I unlock Mika, most of the remaining souvenirs will fall into place.

But I've set that aside because my copy of Sweet Fuse: At Your Side showed up yesterday. So I swapped the UMDs and got started on that. I just started Stage 2 in the game. The Day 1 prologue was pretty quick, but Day 2/Stage 1 had quite a lot to read. I think I'll definitely use the "skip read text" option on subsequent playthroughs. I decided on picking Ayumu Shirabe as "mai waifu" for my first time through. :P So far the story has been pretty good, and I'm very pleasantly surprised with the soundtrack. I'm not familiar with the composers and wasn't expecting anything notable in terms of music, but it's really been very enjoyable and catchy.

I've been so addicted to Sweet Fuse: At Your Side on PSP since starting it. I'm basically playing every second I possibly can. I had no idea this game would have such an impact on me, but I've gotten so engrossed by the main story and emotionally involved with all the characters that I can't put it down, like when you're immersed in a good book. I've cleared the game with Ayumu Shirabe and Ryusei Mitarashi, and I just started Stage 5 (of 7) with Kouta Meoshi. I know the secret character that appears after clearing the game once fills in all the gaps in the mysteries of the main story, but I'm saving his path for last. I want to see what more I can gather from the other characters first, plus I want to see how each character's story deviates. Really, everything about this game has been fantastic. The story, the characters, the art, the music, the localization, etc. I really couldn't ask for more from a visual novel, otome or otherwise. I picked up the game mainly because it seems like it'll be one of the very last UMD releases in the US, and it sounded interesting enough that I figured I may as well get it now rather than potentially paying an arm and a leg down the road because you guys know how late, niche releases sometimes go (same reason I ordered Class of Heroes 2). And the only reason I chose to play it right away was because I figured I'd review it for one of the publications I write for. I hoped for a silly, reasonably fun game, but I'm really taken aback by how much I'm enjoying it. This has easily already become one of my very favorite PSP games. Now I'm more interested in picking up Hakuoki, another Idea Factory otome visual novel localized by Aksys, but that seems far more like a stereotypical otome game with all the same-y looking bishounen and, supposedly, a milquetoast protagonist. Sweet Fuse really seems to go against the grain as far as otome tropes go. I can see why Aksys chose to localize this one. It's very welcoming to those who aren't otome fans and even guys are enjoying it (which I think is a wonderful thing because if I've been enjoying games that are mostly targeted at guys for decades, there's no reason a guy can't enjoy a quality game that happens to be more so targeted at women).

I'm testing the theory that Russia never leaves the project. All other countries have signed deals with the aliens. Since you can have a terrible point score every other month, I'm just doing the minimal amount this 'month' to save on elerium-115. Just getting into the Halloween vibe for this month, I am getting around to playing through Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code Veronica X for Gamecube, with the strategy guides for each game on hand (the games aren't difficult by any means but the artwork/imagery in the guides compliments the experience well!!). Last year i tried a "Fatal Frame / Silent Hill month" for October, but this year i am sticking with RE.

I've also been randomly playing the SNK Arcade Classics Vol 1 PS2 release, so much fun to pick up and play for 20 minutes, as opposed to the RE games where extended play sessions are ideal due to the atmosphere playing a big part of the experience. With SNK Classics, it's instant arcade amazingness!!!!
